and now a quick report on the new Hoosier A6

the news is in ....
the new Hoosier has hit the mark .... out of the box the A6 was about .7 seconds faster than the 710 on a 46.xxx second course ... the initial reports of better forward bite and turn in along with better lateral grip has made the A6 the tire to beat. The only thing still in question is how they wear on a hot course which we should find out in the coming weeks since many venues are starting to see a lot of heat

Same car? Same driver? How long are they lasting?
I don't want to throw $1K on tires that only last 3 events. But with the move to asphalt....
Hmm..

I don't buy it....sounds like corp BS to me...Proof is in the pudding..or this case ...results....Till I see a dominate TREND over the 710's....I think its Hoosier just trying to save face....because they got the hiney's handed to them last year and is continuing to get their hiney handed to them on a REGULAR basis...
so when I see some results from National level drivers Raving about them..I will stick to my 710's...
Matter of fact some of the results I am seeing on AutoXforums.com saids the complete opposite of what your reporting...

Talking with Kevin Youngers on Friday, he's done back-to-back testing of the Hoosier A6 and the Kumho V710 at the super-duper secret "concrete ranch" in Wyoming, and he says that they are pretty much equal.
This was on some various BMWs, FWIW. <shrug>

I agree with that Bill. I was looking at the ProSolo results and it was filled with cars that have to run Hoosiers (size limitations) or some quick cars, but nothing too definite to write home about/compare against.
So I agree... we need to know how this "Test" was conducted. :)
(And the Hoosiers are more expensize than V710s in my size, and no one has yet to go through a set of Hoosiers to say how long they last)

I agree with KC and Bill about the specifics of the test as I have seen nothing saying it is the tire to beat nationally. And like KC said the price difference is still very great ($165 more in my size) for a tire that still may not last nearly as long as a v710.

Me Wonders what incentives Hoosier is giving their reps to try to make up for lost sales...

I won't flame luke but..
A post like that in this forum area really needs to be backed up with a link or story to how the testing was done, where, and conditions, driver experience, etc...otherwise it will not be taken seriously. The motorsports forum regulars IMHO believe "in god we trust all others bring data"
that's my 0.02
I would like to see a longer description Luke, if possible.

For myself, V710 is hard to beat.... We just had our first local event and I ran my 05 tires (225-50-15) and set FTD out of 44 competitors. This was the 10th event for my V710 and about 70 runs... and it was about 50-60F weather (sunny/cloudy).
On my 99RS, all i have is Hotbit Coilovers (with front/rear camber plates), rear sway bar and front/rear strut bars.
I know they've dropped off compared to new V710s but the guys running on hoosiers simply can't using them as long... one subaru guy only used his 05 hoosiers for 20 runs (that's nuts!).

From what I have been reading, you can't compare the A6s to the A5s. I haven't heard any reports of anyone cording the new Hoosiers yet...
This time last year, the forums were filling with reports of the tires lack of longevity. So no news could be good news.

what about the new R6's?

What happened this year with regard to the V710 vs. A6 battle?
Has Hoosier produced anythign that makes the added money worth it?
Thanks,
Chris

For me it seemed the A6 was the tire to have at nationals. IIRC correctly I was the highest placing 710 Kumho in BSP but I was 8th :( top spots were hoosier.
| lagnwagn | 11-05-2006 12:25 PM |
Is there a clear feeling as to how long the new hoosiers will last? I've still been unable to get a good idea of how long they'll be useful on an Sti.
Also, what size v710 are being used?

Kuhmo is like a sore dick you just can't beat it for the price since we all can't spend tons of money on tires or other things for our cars...
I have 245/40/17 SPTs on my STi which is only a 320 threadware and I like them better then the factory potenzas at the track....They wear great and gave me alot of traction and you can't beat the price....PERIOD. Next year I am stepping up to run more track events and get a 220 threadware and I 95% sure I am going Kuhmo....Not as experienced as most in this section by far.....
Luke you definitely need to get an STi or wrx or 2.5rs to test them or something comparable and have that driver post his reviews of them to make me believe...

I think most folks are looking at 245/45/17, or 275/40/40/17s.
Im pretty well stuck with the A6 since Im looking for a 265 or 275 of the right height on an 18" (Hoosier sells the 275/35/18 A6) Kumho has the 285, but I'd be worried its too, and with a 30 profile, I probably wont find a tire shop that will mount them on a 18x8.5

Yeah, I was planning on going 245-40 17 in the hoosiers, or 245-45 17 on the Kumhos. And these will be for autocross only, (I run RA-1's and/or AO48's for track trials). Maybe someday I'll find a new wheel and give the old 275's a try for Autox.
I hear what your saying about finding a local tire shop :P the guys around here bitch about mounting Re070's.

If I run any events this year, it will likely be on Hoosiers. The good thing is that if I run anything, it will be a reduced schedule, so they might last the whole year.

Those are my thoughts too. I have over 110+ runs on my V710's from last year and they are still grippy (sort of). I have a friend running A6's who is cording at 60-70 runs. Thing is the Hoosiers are def faster and if you really want to win, thats your tire. If you go to Nats you'll want a 2nd set anyway. If your content with the long lifecycle and slightly slower times, then maybe the V710 is the right tire.

I'll pay attention to how the season goes with both tires and start it off with the 710s first and then if I were to show up at the nationals, run A6s there if they are truely faster. Kumho should come up with a rain tire too.
