STICKY: Acropolis Rally Greece; talk about it here!

that's right folks!
one of the toughest rallies of the WRC is this weekend!
McRae won last year and is looking to win again in his Citroen. But don't count out my man Petter who finished in the points to start his run towards an impressive 2nd place for the season.
GOOOOOO PETTTTTTTERRRRR

Online gambling is a misdemeanor in Florida. I'm not sure about elsewhere. With that said, let's see them come and bust you. I just don't think it's going to happen unless you're bringing in some big bank and not paying the taxes.
By the way, Petter just had fastest time on stage 6. He made up 7 seconds!

They cancelled Stage 8 after those screwy times, so the results just shifted a bit.
How do you fancy contesting a rally when you can't really see out your windscreen? Markko Martin not only drove 20km of SS5 with his bonnet up over his windscreen, he also managed to set a pretty impressive fourth fastest time in the process.
Impressive. I had respect for this guy's ability before, but it has gone up a notch.

Not to mention that Martin is actually winning the rally right now :)

Gotta love having 4 cars instead of two: the Pugs have lost Marcus, Richard is 1:40 back in 9th, and they still have two cars in the top 6.
Just imagine if Subaru ran 4 cars.:alien:

Panizzi can not score any points for the Manufacturer. That being said they still have two cars in Manufacturer points scoring position.
All we need now is Petter keeping it cool and he may win his second Rally.
Tommi starts another "I have a problem with ..." game. As much as I hate to see it, I think it is time for him to retire.

As far as I know, it is a FEDERAL offense to make those online bets. I live in the unofficial offshore gambling capital of the world. If I were to work at one as a phone teller and take the bets, I would be commiting a federal offense for each bet I take. There have been a number of people picked up by the feds as they get off the plane going back to the US. Just don't do it.
Gooooo Petter!!!

#1: that is the sweetest picture I've ever seen of rallying.
#2: Its great to see Petter on the podium, and even better to see two subaru teams in the top 5.

hmmmm...
From wrc.com:
Petter Solberg was less than chuffed with Colin McRae after a penultimate stage contretemps which saw contact between their cars and just might have cost the Norwegian second place on the Acropolis Rally.
Solberg was driving his Subaru flat-out to recover from an early-stage spin when he came across McRae's Citroen crawling along having lost power and gearchange.
"Petter was swerving left and right to try to persuade Colin to move over," reported Subaru team boss David Lapworth. "Then I smacked him in the back-end and he moved over," continued Solberg.
"He should have kept to the right or to the left. I lost a little bit early in the stage and more behind Colin. It was **** today. I am happy with third but at the same time disappointed because we lost second."
The combined problems meant that Solberg dropped 15 seconds to stage winner Carlos Sainz over the section (on which the Norwegian had been quickest first time through earlier in the day. Sainz eventually took second place overall by 6.7sec.

On that same stage Solberg also had an off that cost him some time. From the footage they showed, it didn't take him 15 seconds to get around McRae. Driving in dust is just a part of Rallying. So, I guess my point is, even though I love Petter, I think he simply lost to Sainz. The ironic aspect of the not passing issue was how pissed off McRae was when he thought Tommi wasn't letting him pass on the Safari last year.

That footage was very heavily edited and they also cut off Solberg's comment at the end of the rally
Given that Colin was clearly out of it at that point, and the contrast with Peugot's goodsportsmanship ealier, it is very questionable what Colin was doing still driving on the stage.
I would really like to see the raw footage and see 1) how far back did Solberg have to deal with Colin's dust and 2) just how long did it take to get Colin to move over.
Also the side by side telemetry of Carlos and Solberg and see just what really happened.
Solberg did not lose 15 sec's with that off........

Even with the McRae incident, 3rd and 4th is a very respectable finish for Subaru.

We may see a repeat of that in two weeks. I just hope that Petter is going to find his pace a little sooner.

It wasn't a Pug fest, just about every car stood a good chance at winning. A lot of drivers were going all out. It was a great battle they ALL had. I was stoked how competitive it was. Hopefully future rallies will be this exciting, with every car going for it, instead of just the Pugs.
Way to go Martin, twas a great drive!
Petter will get you next time though :p

Burns Transmission

I was wondering about Richard Burns and the trouble he had with his transmission. I understand you can only use 2 transmissions. My question is couldn't they rebuild the first transmission then replace the second transmission so that Richard would have all gears for day 3?
Probably another rule but I'm curious.

Kinda defeats the purpose of limiting the number of gearboxes if they can be repaired
Plus there is no way you could easily and reliably fix a gearbox in the field with only 45mins to do it. Remember service time is limited so you can't then also allow the teams time between service to also do other "service" like rebuild the first transmission
Those boxes are expensive - something like $50K each!

Yes, it is true but you are allowed to replace it once. What you are not allowed is to rebuild the original transmission and put it back on the car. Technically it would be the 3rd transmission.
