Stage 4: Bunch of mods I don't know about
I recently bought my 2003 Subaru WRX. The previous owner had done a lot of modifications. At first I was extatic to get all these extras without paying much more (bought it through a dealership). But now I have no idea what extra servicing needs to be done, and I have no idea about what noises are 'good' or 'bad'. I have noticed that it afterfires but from forums I looked at that seems normal? If anyone can help me out I'd be grateful. I LOVE my subaru and want to keep it purring.

can i see a pic of your car plz
ridebmxsvt 11-18-2004 11:52 AM

pretty much just check for the same stuff you would on a stock car. the goal for a modded car is to be tuned as if it feels like it came from the factory. if i were you i would want to take it to a local dyno or speed shop and do some runs and make sure its tuned safely. if its afterfiring on decel then that shouldnt be much to worry about.
Miss WRX 11-18-2004 11:54 AM

I'll get a pic up soon....also: besides up keep of my subie anyone know of any drawbacks I might encounter with these mods. Like I said they all came with so I didn't get to research pros and cons of the mods.
Raslian 11-18-2004 12:18 PM

Your transmission is at much higher risk at those power levels than stock.
Lever2ooo 11-18-2004 12:31 PM

I would put a big magnet under your trunk so you dont litter when **** starts shooting up from the bottom of your engine & tranny
I would put a big magnet under your trunk so you dont litter when **** starts shooting up from the bottom of your engine & tranny
um, why? Sounds like a run-of-the-mill stage 4 car.
Fijimunkii 11-18-2004 02:38 PM

Christ that car sounds nice, I need to see some pics. Just do regular checkups.. only thing you may want to do yourself is grease the blowoff valve every once in a while.

subalou1 11-19-2004 06:30 PM

damn girl it looks good
WV_guy 11-19-2004 07:28 PM

All that stage 4 stuff is BAD, TERRIBLE! Get rid of it! ummmm want to sell it? lol

Seriously, awesome car!. You have lots of work to do to figure out what you have there. One observation to get you started.

Most of the engine mods were done to get the most out of that big vf22. Your choice of turbo depends on how you drive and plan to use the car. Research turbo's first. Alot will fall into place. Unabomber, the faq master, has threads on most of your major mods. Go there first.

and I second the tune part.
DieselClown 11-20-2004 02:16 AM

maybe cover ur plates...just for security reasons.
TurismoLou 11-20-2004 02:27 AM

Sweet looking ride.
ImprezaDude 11-20-2004 03:47 AM

Thats beautiful
alster 11-20-2004 07:44 AM

Just another used stage 4 car!?! Too bad not all used WRXs are stage 4. :) Great pictures, DEFI gauges alone are worth $$$!
Need4Boost 11-20-2004 10:55 AM

Best of luck with your car.

You are better off asking this question in the FI 2.0L forum.
bluesmurf02 11-20-2004 11:56 AM

nice nice, hmmm i wondering how much hp....285-300whp maybe?
Parallax 11-20-2004 12:02 PM

Sweet car. Just paint the sideskirts and get some LHD JDM headlights and it'll be complete
Golfa 11-28-2004 02:28 PM

that's Chris' car, he works @ NTB in Newington, NH if you need to get in touch with him. I knew him fairly well, we always hung out at the dragway.

MikeWRX-NJ 11-28-2004 02:58 PM

very nice looking and sounds like a fun car.

as for maintaning it. same applies, follow the service schedule religously and it'll treat you good.

i agree with whoever said take it to a local tuner to make sure the utec is tuned safely. a few runs on a dyno will tell you a lot about how the car is running. Post in the northest forum for help finding a shop to help you.

good luck with the car! :)
Miss WRX 11-29-2004 11:47 AM

thanx everyone for all your help. I will be taking it down to XX-tuning in CT next week to be dyno'd and tuned. I'll let you know what she puts down.
Tobey 11-29-2004 12:06 PM

just TAKE IT EASY on the launches. that vf-22 + the wrx 5-speed can = tranny soup if not treated nicely. :)
subieworx 11-29-2004 12:16 PM

Get rid of the license plate, wing risers (or better yet wing completely) and paint the side skirts.
Miss WRX 11-29-2004 12:28 PM
Get rid of the license plate, wing risers (or better yet wing completely) and paint the side skirts.
I'll be painting the side skirts but my wing and risers are staying
Bishop 11-29-2004 12:36 PM
I'll be painting the side skirts but my wing and risers are staying
good! i actually like that wing. :D
Miss WRX 11-30-2004 05:32 PM
nice nice, hmmm i wondering how much hp....285-300whp maybe?
actually, over 300whp:devil: ....just wanted to update everyone that helped out I found out previous owner was a nasioc member: nu2rex. talked to him and am holding off going down to xx tuning in ct probly till spring time. but he let me know he ran a 12.2 @114 at ned
kingmissil 12-01-2004 02:13 PM

what I would find out is what kind of oil he was using, perhaps synthetics and what grade they were. Also find out about the tranny and diff oils as well. If you talk to the prev owner see if he had a maintence log, that would be be great. Car looks tight, I wouldn't paint the sideskirts, I'd either leave them or get real ones.

Poot!
elijah25rs 12-01-2004 09:42 PM

OMG That's delicious...
