looks awesome man, if only you had a black radio.
I plan to ;)

When you said that, though, it made me want to black out my OEM CD changer. Please believe I will do that in a few days.

I used five cans of Dupli-color: Truck, Van, & SUV flat black

Thanks again for the comments! :)
Alizarin 01-22-2006 10:24 PM

Looks awesome, Franklin! I'll hafta see it in person next weekend :D
scooby_wooby 01-22-2006 10:27 PM

it looks sweet..
DoesItReallyMatter? 01-22-2006 10:28 PM

As if it wasn't enough Franklin that you and Alizarin clog up TR.com now you have to do the same to Nasioc??? :P And those damn P Park people to boot!

Looks very good Franklin. Even though we have the same color and live in the same town I might have to actually copy you on this one. ;)
BraveUlysses 01-22-2006 10:29 PM

So you are just going to cover up all the text with black paint? I'd suggest selling the head unit, as they usually go for 100 bucks, and putting that towards something aftermarket--you'll like it better too :)

Yeah, I was thinking about selling it, but I already made the LEDs red on it and I'm sure people want it green. Yes, the text will be gone over, but the buttons won't be so that means I will still be able to see it light up at night :)

I'm probably going all Eclipse this March anyway.

DoesItReallyMatter?: It's about time! Haha!! You have a PM, btw~

Kenny: If I don't work, I'll definitely come out to the meet! <3

Thanks again for t3h comm4nts!
USA 79S 01-28-2006 03:28 AM

Franklin, would you please give info on what sorta prep and process you used for this. I'd like to do it as well, but never painted anything, and don't want to f' it up. Thanks. Where'd you score that paint from?

dougkmcse 01-28-2006 05:12 PM

That came out really good. What paint did you use??
thisisbrock 01-28-2006 05:15 PM

Handsdown 01-28-2006 05:42 PM

that looks absolutely awesome. very nice work!
Chank Frank 01-30-2006 12:14 PM

Thanks to all~

The only prepping I did was getting the dust off the trim. I couldn't find a reason to sand/prime the trim so I skipped that part.

I bought the paint from Wal-Mart. Five cans of Dupli-color: Truck, Van, & SUV flat black were used on everything but the gaugepod.

I sprayed in a zigzag motion going down then then back up a foot away from the trim.
WRX-in-it 01-30-2006 03:14 PM

looks great man... really came out nice, i might be doing that next...
...emu... 01-30-2006 06:18 PM
For those who are curious of the texture from the paint I used, here it is:
Just remember that you're able to pop out the plastic orange piece. :)
If anyone is interested, I am willing to trade your trim for a set of blacked out trim. Let me know. I'm looking for around $40-50 to cover supplies and shipping though..
Handsdown 02-07-2006 12:25 PM

that's some pretty expensive paint and packaging:lol:
Chank Frank 02-07-2006 01:41 PM

It's about $5 a can and I use five cans. I would also put insurance worth $300 and delivery confirmation on the package. Lets not forget about the bubble wrap and a postcard from Florida. :)
Vostok 7 02-07-2006 01:45 PM

Is it a rubberized texture like the S203 or is it just paint?

Vostok 7
BraveUlysses 02-07-2006 02:40 PM

If you want a rubberized feeling, you can try out PLASTI-DIP, sold at Lowe's and probably Home Depot. It has a slight texture to it.
Damon 02-07-2006 02:49 PM

come do mine... that looks really great.
tacomaprime 02-07-2006 02:53 PM

did you sand it between coats or anything? and i am assuming no clear coat.
Chank Frank 02-07-2006 04:03 PM

No sanding or priming or clearcoat.

"just paint" :)
