anyone put a wrx scoop on a rs hood??

so heres the deal, my wife and i agreed that our scooby needs a hood scoop. so rather than buy a wrx hood, i bought a scoop from a guy that had the same color car. now we are scared about bolting the thing to the car and cutting a hole in the hood. has anyone done this before? do you have pics? the car is a 02 2.5 rs
EDIT: I searched

It would have been easier to buy a WRX hood, but I don't think you'd have to actually cut a hole for the scoop, since you don't have an intercooler. Just bolt it on top of the hood.
BTW some people might flame you and call it rice, but I think it's your car and you can do whatever the hell you want.

One benifit of using a WRX hood over an RS hood is the RS hood is steel the WRX hood is aluminum so there is a good amount of weight savings by making the swap. Also since it is aluminum they could add extra reinforcement for the scoop to prevent the hod from flexing to much at speed, but I can't confirm that. But the WRX hood IS lighter than the RS hood.

The surface where the WRX scoop bolts to the hood is also recessed into the hood. It will look like garbage if you just cut a hole out and bolt the scoop to your hood.

accually the RS hood also recesses

no, by recessing, he means where the scoop actually is.
the hood recesses in about 1/4 inch or so, so the scoop sits flush, it will look like poop on an RS hood. Even if its done by a really good body shop, it'd be cheaper to get a WRX hood.
(as for the rice comment, all pre-2002 RS's had hood scoops! ;) )

This will go nicely with the "Type R" sticker you're going to put on too. Hopefully you can add the LED nozzles to the hood too.

I did what you are asking about. It was actually a Turbo scoop (you can see what it looks like at Primitive, but that's beside the point).
The scoop was fiberglass, so the body shop reinforced it with...black body shop stuff...cut the 3 holes in the hood required (main scoop, plus the 2 side vents) and fit it on with no problems. Took about a month and a half (a wing and functional roof scoop was being installed as well).
The opinion of ***some*** of the others is correct, swapping the hood would have been cheaper but due to the year of my car that would have required swapping the headlights and grill so it ultimately was cheaper in my circumstance. Look into it for yourself, you can always re-sell the scoop and recoup the cost and put that towards the hood. Subarus need the hood scoop, I agree with you on that.
I would include pictures but Mr. Humara would take it upon himself to further denegrade his intellect publicly, and I wish to spare him from looking any more petty than what has already been demonstrated. If you want, I will gladly post them though.

lol...that's rad! :D
and there's nothing rice about a nonfunctional hoodscoop on an rs....the subaru wrc car has a nonfunctional scoop, and it's far from rice.
since your car is white, just get a cf hood or buy a stock white wrx hood off someone else that's already got a cf hood

Thought you would check the spelling. Thank you Mr. Humara.
My hood is not brittle and the scoop doesn't rattle or make noise at speed. The body shop took the time to carefully plan out the placement and not cut/impinge any of the structural components of the hood.

I shall wholeheartedly confirm that it has a very polarizing look. Ugly, perhaps; but it is in the extremes that we find the middle.
Now imagine hearing me roar up with the Apex'I N1 and a 2 1/4" straight pipe.
But this thread is not about me, so perhaps we should defer back to the originator. Flame me in a seperate thread if you desire, I shan't lose sleep.

Dr. Morbid: You should have your car checked. I think it's got genital warts.
stanghater: Buy a WRX hood. You won't have to worry about cutting it because it should come with a scoop. Additionally, it's considerably lighter than the RS hood. The difference in weight between the hood on my '03 WRX and my '01 RS is insane.

Heard of a quarter mile, they exist. Calm down, little man and don't try too hard. If you go 1 mph over the limit you're speeding, check the hypocrisy at the door next time you're late for work.
As far as your Subaru dealer not wanting to cut the hood, I'm sure they don't want you touching the ECU, air intake, exhaust, cams...

thanks morbid for the post... looks like a professional install, i think a body kit or some more lights up front are in order for your car... what does that roof scoop actually do, you said it was functional?
after reading this thread i am leaning more towards the "lets not cut the hood side" but my wife is still gun ho. she doesnt want to make it functional though... here are some pics

I think the best thing to do in your particular circumstance would be to take the scoop (& the car) to a few bodyshops and get quotes. Any wife willing to participate in car modification should be placed on a pedestal, and this way you can see what it would cost. Be sure to ask about wind buffetting as you have a scoop forcing air into a void with the means of escape being the entrance. With the quote ask about a warranty on the item, what happens if it cracks/rattles or flies off at highway speed? Are you to blame?
Go to a tuner shop and ask them for a body shop referral, to go into territory more "friendly" to tuner mods.
Then cross-reference the quote with the price of a new hood. I'd say carbon fiber looks good on a white car, but that might inspire a new spate of ne'er-do-wells to chime in.

just to let you know we will all be waiting to laugh when the thread "my hoodscoop flew off while i drove down the road" is posted. If you dont put a hole in the hood the air has no where to go and cause insane drag and make that rs reallllyyy slow
but then cutting a hole in the hood causes the structual integrity of the hood to go down the tubes..Dr Morbid does not have a 02+ rs so in essence he doesnt know if cutting the hood will cause any damage i believe it will...plus when you cut the hood youll see the paint flake and all from the saw
in the end id be cheaper just to buy a wrx hood
