Anyone with a functional roof scoop

Getting ready to install a functional roof scoop. Wanted to know if anyone has this done, and if so are you experiencing any issues with it, ie leaks, irratating wind noise etc. Any help would be great.

I'm afraid to try myself so I am taking my car to a custom Hot Rod shop. I had a scoop on my 02 WRX, but didn't make it functional. They do awesome work. Making a 600 mile trip for it.

Ivan has one... ala Spec C - matches his Spec C interior
Nicest installation i've seen, and he did it himself :D

Put mine on 2 years ago. Had a professional shop do it as well, they were more than happy to take the job...(they do Hot Rods and lots of custom stuff, they also did the hood scoop and made that functional as well) A little bit of wind noise at cruising speed on a windy day (aka 120km/h), otherwise don't hear anything. No leaks, no drips.

What internal vents did you go with Dr

I live in Florida, so I was wondering if driving with it open in the rain allows water to come inside.
| Subie Gal | 12-09-2004 05:39 PM |
if it's open.. rain will get in, yes.....

Rain does gets in, but not too much though. It really depends on the speed you drive and the direction of the wind. Once, I actually went through a whole freaking car wash with my roof vents up!!! And amazingly, only the handbrake portion areas was slightly wet, the rest of the interior is still dry. Maybe the roof scoop helps too!

Jin, I really like what you did with your rear door windows, is that just a tint outline around the window or something special, do you have that on the front doors as well.
| JIN | 12-09-2004 09:19 PM |
Nah. Only on the rears. I copied that from the WRC GC8s ...

And it's just a tint border?
| JIN | 12-09-2004 11:55 PM |
Yup, just tints. But you got to put the Prodrive stickers in first ...

Jin, awesome awesome car. Question. Is that headliner something you installed yourself? I have an 04 WRX and my headliner is lame-looking. Yours looks sweet. Is it stock? Custom?
| JIN | 12-10-2004 12:49 AM |
Nah, mine is customed. If you look at my rearview mirror, you be able to see my b and c pillars are also customed in the exact cf material too.

I got my vent and scoop from Paul Eklund at Primitive Enterprises. Very nice and friendly, cut me a good deal too.
| WRXFan420 | 12-10-2004 12:17 PM |
Yeah, I got the scoop from him, but didn't like the vents he had, or the price.
| WRXFan420 | 12-10-2004 05:00 PM |
Yo Jin, when are you going to put the Bullet Cam mount on the roof. That's pretty much the only thing you are missing compared to the WRC Car
| JIN | 12-10-2004 06:15 PM |
Haha, never now? Car is gone ...

So, I am in PA, got home Saturday morning at 6 am. Had the vents sent here because I was afraid I would not get them in time so first thing when I get to my parents house was check it out in person. To my dismay the vent appears to be a giant bowl that is going to catch water and eventually start leaking into the car. Very disappointed that no roof scoop will be available for my return trip to ATL. Talked to Rallyperformance, and although the vent was special ordered, they are allowing me to return it. So now I will need to order the spec c vent and find a place in Atl that can install it, unless any of you feel comfortable and secure cutting into my roof (unlikely). I took pics of the vent and will post them soon. Just an update.

How does the primitive scoop hardware look on the inside?
cirruswrx has one too....
Yes he does, and I believe he took the hacksaw to his roof himself.
JIN's car is gone because he moved overseas, I believe. :( I don't know who has it though. I saw it at the tri-state meet, and the cockpit is very spaceship-like.
What I want to know is, who mounted the airhorns Jin? they were on brackets under the hood or something, I think, but then again I think you re-located the battery as well...

The hardware for the scoop should all be hidden by the roof liner. I didn't put the scoop on yet, but I had a non functional scoop on my 02 and you couldn't see any of the hardware. I got the spec C vent installed. I paid a sunroof guy to do it. Took maybe an hour. If I had the tools I could have easily done it myself. Only cost $125 to install though. It is great. Lots of air thru the vent. Will definitely be really good once the Auto X season starts up again in March.

that looks sick. where'd u get the materials for the inside? i see it replaced the "map" lights but it looks really nice.

purchased everything from kingpin performance, they had a wrecked spec c with the exact amount of miles and the same color of my car. absolutly perfect, i was dumb and lost the two front clips inside, i had to use repkacements. i also re did the headliner with a nice soft fabric, totally unlike that cheap posterboard crap that the suby headliner is made out of.

I really like the roof scoop from this place
http://www.rallyperformance.com/lsportcompetition.htm
Ive been thinking about doing a roof scoop for a few years now, the only thing thats really stopped me is that most of the aftermarket scoops that Ive seen available for subaru look subtley different than what you see on the wrc car. I'm not sure if its cuz the wrc car has a widebody kit or what, but every single wrx/sti ive seen with a roof scoop. Their scoop looks a little bit higher/bigger than whats on the wrc car. I know its a little thing, but hey if youre gonna chop a hole in your roof you wanna make sure you get things right. Ive looked at an older pic of solbergs car an then another of a wrx with an aftermarket one and his looks maybe an inch lower than the after market. The inch makes it flow more with the lines of the car and less obtrusive.
I think
also if I remember correctly, all the scoops should have a small rectangular cutout at the back so air/water can get past when the roof vents not open. and I think youre supposed to put silicone paste(forgot the word for it, silicone something) on the grommet thing they give you for the spec c vent when you install it so it keeps water out.

The scoop from rallyperformance is awesome. It is the exact same however as the one from Primitive Racing, only difference is the Rallyperformance scoop is Carbon Fiber and is $400. The one from Primitive is the one I have. It cost me $109. Yes, they do have an opening in the back for water to escape. Silicone is not really needed for the Spec C vent, but is definitely a good idea as a safety precaution to keep water out.
