Autometer A-Pillar part 1

chuglobal 02-16-2002 05:05 PM

Autometer A-Pillar

OK so here some a pic of the AutoMeter A-pillar PN 22593 for the 02 WRX. The A-Pillar installtion was alot harder than expected ... lesson learned ... have more wires and hoses than planned so you can cut off the extra when needed. The AutoMeter A-Pillar is a cover over the factory A-Pillar when you WILL need to drill ( well at least according to the instruction ) into the factory A-Pillar. The fitment it ok but I'd have liked to see more space in the AutoMeter A-Pillar for easier routing of wires and housing. A complete A-Pillar replacement would have been optimal but the pin location would have gotten in the way of the gauge pod housing. They gauges are definitely angled towards to driver w/ very easy view of all the gauges. I guess I'm the 1st to market w/ the AutoMeter since no one else seems to have it. I'll try to help out if anyone has questions. Yes I got the yellow cover to cover the empty hole from Home Depot for 27 cents. I have also included a link to my website for further pictures ...

Cool pics man! Good job.
nqwan 02-16-2002 09:07 PM

ehhhh, so this means they're not color matched with the factory a pillars? crud puddles...

also, these pics seem to suggest the gages angle up and towards the driver so it may be kinda akward for little people like me...any info on this?
[freeman] 02-16-2002 10:00 PM

man that looks great...least it covers the whole a pillar and doesnt leave any grey out in the open...*shrug*
atomicapples 02-16-2002 10:36 PM

very nice...

do you have to take to take your stock apillar off to install?
chuglobal 02-16-2002 11:56 PM

Yo

Yes you need to take the factory A-Pillar OFF ... you will need to drill holes to run the wires and hoses and holes for the bolt on screws for the AutoMeter gauge pods. I though the black would look off but it actually blends in to my surprise :D. I'm not that tall @ 5'8 and it seems fine to me. Ryan sat in my car and he's 5'7 and he said it was fine.
atomicapples 02-17-2002 05:44 AM

im 6'4... i wonder...
chuglobal 02-17-2002 08:15 AM

Humm

Well some guy 5'10 sat in my REX and though it was fine, but that's all relative. You guys can alwasy come over and check it out :D.
GimpWRX 02-17-2002 11:54 AM

hey do they have 67mm guage pod?
nqwan 02-17-2002 01:42 PM

i'm talking bout short ppl...like 5'4"...
-=C=- 02-17-2002 06:38 PM

Why white gauges and not the sport-comps that match?
chuglobal 02-17-2002 08:04 PM

Yo

I guess the only people whom have sat in my REX is between 5'7 and 5'10 . AutoMeter only makes the A-Pillar in 52mm or 2 1/16 size ... please don't quote me on that. You can always call them directly and inquire. I wanted the white background gauges from AutoMeter however they didn't have the Boost and EGT that I wanted so I went w/ the UltaLite which is a silver background.
Shaggee 02-17-2002 11:26 PM

heheehe you should put a shift light in where u have that empty hole, just a suggestion:D
polobee69 02-17-2002 11:32 PM

autometer makes a shift light that will fit in there????
rwjcp721 02-18-2002 12:04 AM

chuglobal - what sizes are each of the mounts? Autometer's web site sucks....I can never find anything there
chuglobal 02-18-2002 07:57 AM

Humm ...

The A-Pillar is 52mm or 2 1/16 for each gauge pod ... you would need to get the 2 1/6 gauges to fit, they actually fit realy nice . Anways ... how would the shift light work? Is there one which would tell you which gear you were in?
NYguyinNC 02-18-2002 08:46 AM

Looks good Richard! How many questions did you have to ask before you finished it?:D

Hmmmmmmm you even used the same positioning of my gauges. Very interesting.
-=C=- 02-18-2002 10:32 AM

So can someone that is basically mechanically inclined get it done in an afternoon if I just get the 2 gauge pillar and boost and egt?
GoodFinder 02-18-2002 10:45 AM

... you could put a clock in that 3rd position ...

GoodFinder :)
NYguyinNC 02-18-2002 11:13 AM

I am about as mechanically uninclined as they come. I did it!
chuglobal 02-18-2002 01:20 PM

Yo

I didn't mean to copy you, actually I wanted the boost on the top but the hose was NOT long enough :( ... but I'm glad it's in the middle since it's the most viewable there :D. Hey Ryan you did it because Porter helped you ....
Remember to disconnect the bettery so you don't short anything out like I did. You will need to drill into your exhaust manifold to intall the aftermarket EGT sensor, which mean to removal of the mud guard, heat shield, and manifold. If you are confident I'd go for it but if you have ANY doubts grab a friend to be safe. The boost is the easiest of the bunch, just make sure you have enough hose length to play w/ behind the A-Pillar.
nqwan 02-18-2002 01:56 PM

i've seen a gauge thats basically a tach and a shiftlight. you could try lookin for that combo
NYguyinNC 02-18-2002 03:49 PM

Porter helped me with one gauge yes. And if you look at my post above your post it says I am mechanically UNINCLINED.
chuglobal 02-18-2002 03:57 PM

Yo

Chill out ... just messin w/ u :D.
datdudedennis 02-18-2002 09:56 PM

how much was the pillar and where can i get it?? knowing autometer, they won't charge close to 100 for a damn gauge pillar like some other companies

dennis
atomicapples 02-18-2002 11:11 PM

do they have a 2 pod pillar kit??

also can i get one that fits 60mm greddy guageS?

or should i go get the greddy universal pod kit?
GimpWRX 02-18-2002 11:57 PM

i need a 67mm size guage pod dangit!
chuglobal 02-19-2002 08:07 AM

Yo

Go w/ whichever you really want ... don't compromise. AutoMeter does make 2x gauge pod A-Pillar 22592 ( 2 gauge ) & 22593 ( 3 gauge ). 60mm is the standard size and any 60mm of 2 1/16 should fit.
I got mine at Stillen.com from Kenny @ x185. Some people had problems w/ Stillen but Kenny treated me great. Maybe it depends on the individual sale rep? Try Kenny and see how he is to you. Stillen was the ONLY company that was willing to contact AutoMeter and actually get me my A-Pillar before June 2002! :D I contacted Jegs, Stillen, another 1 I fogt, etc. Only 1 decided to help me so I went w/ them. I want a certain product and if only 1 company wants to help me then they'll definitely get my business.
YeeHa 02-19-2002 12:24 PM

I ordered mine yesterday from summit racing for $60.40 shipped.
Chuglobal I know you had to drill for yours. I was wondering did you have to drill to attach it or did you have to drill holes to run the wires through. The reason I ask is someone mentioned using 3m tape and I was wondering if you thought it would be possible?

Thanks
chuglobal 02-19-2002 01:46 PM

Yo

I drilled the holed to mount the AutoMeter to the factory A-Pillar. Someone stated earlier that you could use the double sided tape. However I still had to drill a hole into the factory A-Pillar to run the boost hose, EGT wires, power wire, and ground wire through.
chuglobal 02-19-2002 05:52 PM

Yo

Yes I painted the yellow plug to black yesterday. The yellow stood out way too much and the black definitely looks better.
sniece 02-19-2002 06:09 PM

Pillar mount for pre-'02?

Anyone know if a pillar mount is made for the pre '02 Impreza? Or does the new one for the WRX fit the GC8 as well?

Ditto

I have the same question.
I need to paint my A-pillar when it comes in.

Thanks

2 1/16 = 52mm. 2 5/8 = 60mm

And the last time i looked at the autometer site they only sale 2 1/16 duel pods. And the standard is 52mm or 2 1/16 not 60mm. I know greddy sales a single 2 1/16 or 60mm pod but not a duel or if they do I have not found it yet.

I am looking for a duel 2 5/8 or 60mm a-pillar but I can not find one. If anyone knows of one please let me know. I am buying two greddy 60mm gauges but as of right now I do not have anything to put them in.
chuglobal 02-22-2002 01:03 PM

Yo

Acutally the 2 5/8 is NOT the 60mm, it is a little larger than the 60mm ... I forgot what the exact size in mm were. It's hard to find 2 5/8 or even 60mm gauges because the 2 1/16 or 52mm seems to be the standard. I wanted the larger gauges also a month+ back but realized that the 2 1/16 is plenty big especially on the A-Pillar.
gixxerg 02-22-2002 01:06 PM

chuglobal,

I think I like yours better.
here, check mine out: it's also by autometer

You are right I just looked it up again. The 60mm = 2 3/8 NOT 2 5/8 I almost had it right. sorry.

As I said I am buying the Greddy 60mm gauges and there is a great group buy going on with them right now in the group buy center. You should look it up. However I can not find a duel pillar to put my guages into. They sale a single but that is it. I may have to rig something up. dont know yet.

same ?
looking for the stock a-pillar color code, ...... anyone???? :D :D
chuglobal 02-26-2002 09:14 AM

Yo

Sorry but I don't know the color code :(. Hey Kristi how come you're not looking into other manufacturer than Greddy? Do you want the A-Pillar more or gauges more? You'll need to 52mm to fit the 2 1/16 so you may need to decide between the 2 choices :D.
littlepest 02-26-2002 09:39 AM

I did buy the Greddy 60mm gauges. I wanted the EGT gauge with peak/hold. You can only get that in 60mm. The store I am buying the gauges from said that a few people have just bought the Autometer duel pod then sanded out the holes to make the gauges fit. So I am going to try that. Hopefully it will work. If not then I will come up with another idea. I am not too worried I can be pretty crafty when I need to be.
