AZENIS RT-615 up on Vulcantire.com

Sizes and sales pitch, but no prices yet. :(

Falkens pitch on these tires sounds spectacular. I just hope they live up to it.
I realize all of you already know most of this, just wanted to offer the link, so you can check at your convenience for pricing and actual availibility.

I totally agree. Anything above 16" starts getting a bit expensive. Prior to the next autox season I was plannign to buy a fresh set of 16" Azenis...but I was so dissapointed to see that the enw Azenis had what, ONE 16" tire? Weird....and yes, those Kumhos are probably what I'll pick up before next season. Is Falken listening to people like me?

I just comitted to buying a set of 215/45-16 Azenis' from a fellow autocrosser (55 runs on them, 75% tread left) for $200 to use as daily drivers and for the occasional Street Tire class autocrosses. I wish I would have known that the new Falkens were coming out soon.
I guess you can't beat $200 though, and the 16" sizes offered probably aren't the ones that I'm looking for anyhow.

My sarcasm filter is broken today? Tire Rack doesn't sell Falkens... so they won't be doing a comparison of them.

There was a rumor that the TireRack was considering selling the new Falkens and were sent some in order to do a comparison test. I think I read about it in a thread here on the NASIOC, but it may have been somewhere else.
From what I vaguely remember the results of the test were said to be somethign like "amazingly better in the wet with only a small performance decrease in the dry" relative to the Azenis Sport.

Wait... the only 16" size is 205/40ZR16? If I were to pick one 16" size to manufacture, I highly doubt that that wacky-assed size would be it.
| anti.team | 12-02-2004 05:49 PM |
Also, I just read the Vulcantire.com description. They used the phrase "JDM", which is bad enough in itself, but they used it in reference to the Bridgestone Potenza. Are Bridgestone Potenzas JDM?

205/50-15... I'm glad I run the stock Civic size on my Corolla. :)

It can be done, its just totally use less for autox purposes, which is the only reason you dont see alot of stis with 275 street tires on em.

Why is is useless for autocross?
| ConeMasher | 12-02-2004 11:20 PM |
275/40-17 for an 05 STi on the 17x8s? Sounds just about perfect. Slightly higher overall diameter (2.8%) will mean the car can actually stay in 2nd. I don't have the gearing chart here right now, but this should let it just about hit 60 in 2nd. Just about right for everything but the most wide open autox courses.
With the '05 eight inch rim and a sufficiently stiff sidewall (which the current RT-215 has in SPADES) the 275 width should be sufficiently supported (not sure I'd endorse that on the 7.5 inch earlier rim, but then again, 225 V700s on a stock 6 1/2 inch WRX rim worked great). The rather hefty STi should be able to take advantage of that extra width. One can't make a race-tire argument that the tire is too wide to get sufficient heat into it, as this is an Azenis... heat is the enemy! :)

Because it cant be competitive. STU limit is 245, you would have to run an r compound class, and 275 azenis are not going to be faster then 275 710s. Im not saying the car cant benefit from it, just the current national rule set makes it uncompetitive with others in the class it would be in(AS, ESP, or SM). And this is why you dont see a bunch of people shoving 275mxs or kds on stis already.
Now if you have a regional street tire class that allows 275s then yes it would help.

I've got near brand new 245/40/17 BFG KD's right now that work awesome, but these look great, and also come in that size! So I'll be keeping an eye on these too! But I wonder, why was Tom on the FK 451's????? Are they that much better (even though they have the dumb M&S tread pattern), or was it just because they had his wild size that he needed?
| afpdl | 12-03-2004 03:49 AM |
He was on 451s because he felt the gearing, and transitional response advantage was greater then the grip advantage of the other 245 width tires offered at the time. And the new azenis dont come in 245/40/17, it still just 245/45/17 just like the old azenis.

Oh yeah. I forgot about that rule. Well, that sucks.
There are street tire classes here in The D but I don't know if there are limits on the width of tire that you can use. There might be, as I am not familiar with the rules regarding that. I'll have to look it up.
I suppose it doesn't really matter to me anyway, since I neither have an STI nor a million dollars to buy 275 width Azenis'

Tom & mnbiker were on 245/35-17 (Diameter 23.9" @ full tread / 23.6" shaved to 4/23nds)
I was on 225/35-17 (Diameter 23.2" @ full tread / 22.9" shaved to 4/32nds)
When the stock wheel diameter is 25.1" and you get 1.5 to 2" in tire diameter reduction.. the GEARING is just kick ass. You feel like you car has much more HP. Given their grip that is almost as good as the Azenis when shaved... the plusses outweighed the minuses. :)
Note: this will also work with the 2.5RS & STi becuase they use the same tire diameter.... it'll allow you to shift into 3rd earlier and get into the meat of 3rd. :)
