Blue variation on Headlight Mod
I wanted to do the headlight mod and tone down the orange blinker, but was starting to get too much black up front. Found the new Duplicolor Anodized Blue to do my brakes, but since it is bright and close to smurf blue, I thought it might be a good match inside the lights. Followed the 225deg oven insuctions, which were great, but would like to add a new step:
Reheat again at 225 for 5 before reassembly, makes it easy.
I like it, you may too.

What brand of wheels are those? by the way i like the lights.
| obyone | 04-14-2002 08:36 PM |
Wow!!!...I really like the reflective blue paint you used.
| Hazdaz | 04-14-2002 09:31 PM |
very unique... i like it. Now, since my car is Sliver I woud never do that, but I am curious if they sell a "silvery" paint that I could put on mine? Did you possibly buy that stuff online (so I could see what other colors they have)?
| Ski Man | 04-14-2002 11:12 PM |
Thanks. The wheels are Team Dynamics MotorSports with their blue anodized ring (exactly like the paint). I think the paint comes in anodized blue, red, and yellow - found it local at Checker. I'll see if I can get a closeup of the lights tomorrow.
Hard to photograph because of all the reflections, which is why I liked it over the WR Blue for the lights, much more reflective.

Has anyone thought about painting the backside of the lens?
| SC WRX | 04-15-2002 11:06 AM |
Cool. You should get Osram Diadems for your blinkers, and Osram (Sylvania) Cool Blues for your headlights and highbeams. Then your entire headlight assembly will be that color!

Here's a close up, but had to do it in the shade to prevent serious glare so the colors are off.[IMG]http://members.i-club.com/UserPics/9744/WRXlight.jpg[/IMG]
What are Osram Diadems? Do they still blink orange?

I mean paint the backs of the lenses in a pattern to let light through while maintaining the stock openings.

Do you have "tack on" moulding on your doors? Where did you get that from?
| Ski Man | 04-15-2002 09:34 PM |
AutoZone, 1" solid black. The way this car gets dinged up in real mountain driving, back desert roads, and shopping malls - you need all the protection you can give it. Clear Bra, mud flaps, gutter guard behind all opening, door guards, and good wax. Even so, the front bumper and headlight plastic is getting pretty sandblasted after 22K.

I like the lights, they look different from the other modded headlights.

Nice...another picture?
Thanks for sharing this. Would you be so kind as to take a picture from the front middle, dead-on, about 10 feet away?
I was just thinking of this a few threads before I saw your post. What timing!

Well if he's willing to take all those pic, then how about one with the blinkers on - i'm wondering if the orange light from the bulb and the blue-ish reflector will make the light a weird color (like "brown-ish" or something).
| Ski Man | 04-16-2002 11:05 PM |
The orange blinkers look normal when they're on, they just kind of hide in the daylight unless they are lit up. I'll try and a dead-on picture from 10 feet tomorrow. Good thing digital film is reusable.

Here is a link to the Osram Diadems. You have to buy them in Europe. They seem to have a bluish tint to them and would be a good match for your housing. Good luck.

I used a can of 'transparent black window tint', which I picked up at a hobby store. I rather like the look, though I need some fog screens now...

Here's your dead-on view. Trying to get a reasonable picture of the blinkers blinking orange just did not work out. You'll have to take my word.

Fog light cover letters
I just installed plain black fog light covers. How did you put those STI letters on yours? Looks nice. Maybe you can point me to a right direction

SKIMAN, i'm going to tell the 'Search Nazis' that you haven't been yelling and bitching at people and tell them to "do a search". Watch, out, them Search Nazis will be after your as$ for not following protocol.

Oh forgot to tell you:
Print it out at whatever size you want on 24lb or above paper. (I did 60% of this image size).
Cut out the red with an exacto or razor blade.
Trim it to about the outside of cover size.
Mask and tape it in the middle of you cover.
Spray with STi red paint (or the red of your choice)
Remove, remount and spray your other cover.
Easy!
