STI wing on 03

This has to have been asked before but I cannot find it despite endless searching and I need an answer this morning as someones waiting for payment.
I have an 03 WRX and was about to buy an STI wing from an 04
Now i hear the holes are all different and a complete trunk swap is the ONLY way to do this is this true?
If this has been asked just call me a noob and link me please, thanks

I just did this swap on my 02 and although you can drill more holes to fit the wing, it'd be awefully easy to screw up and also if you want to go back to stock, you're with the 13 extra holes required for the STi wing. Just get the trunk and wing and be done with it. Save your WRX trunk/wing in case you want to go back to stock.

you can drill the holes, which is easy if u make a template, or you can swap lids, either or... i drilled the holes

It's far too easy to just do the trunk swap. Though I'm sure it's possible to drill more holes and mount up the STi wing, it's not worth the trouble. If the guy isn't selling the trunk lid with it, you'd probably have a pretty easy time finding someone to do a trade with. I see STi owners posting trunk swap threads all the time.

STi owners downsize and us WRX owners upsize... funny that.

You don't need it man. Don't waste the time. ;)

Well ive already got the wing on its way, got it very cheap so cant complain.
I really dont like the idea of drilling my trunk but then If I swap with an STI owner ive still got a drilled trunk instead of my own.
Oh well, time to get out the drill, hope its easy

Is it a real STi wing? I hear the ebay fiberglass ones crack like crazy..

I put one on a friends 03. Just be carfeful when you mark the holes. You would be better off searching and finding somone that has a sti and wants to trade trunks

Its a genuine wing from an 04
I've already bought the wing so I'll have to think about it
I'll never find someone wanting to trade near me, im in Arkansas theres none around here.
BTW how do I find out my exact color type, not sure if its JBP or MBP

under your hood there is a plate on the drivers strut tower. It should say color code i believe then post it on here or do a search someone may be ably to help you. Someone may know right off the top of their heads. If i was at work i could tell you.

03 Imprezas came in Midnight Black Pearl, I believe and the color code is 08V.

*thread res*
I put my STI wing on my 03 today and im using the four holes that i had from my old smaller wing. It seems to be secure and I dont think im going to even use the other screws or drill.
maybe some strong double-sided tape or glue ?

That thing looks ginormous!

trunk swap plain and simple.
| smeghead | 05-15-2006 02:33 PM |
but why? It seems perfectly fine using only the four holes from my old spoiler.
All the time I dont drill I can back out to my old spoiler anytime
And thats just a regular OEM STI wing its not over-ginormous, bad angle I guess

I did the same thing on my 02.....2 bolts from the stock wing.....then super strong 3m for the front half to keep it from vibrating. Works for me so far at speeds up to 90mph.
Car is dirty in the pic but you get the idea.....

Both look good. I would think you'd have to be going pretty darn fast to rip it off. But then again, the STi wing has 13 mounting points for a reason...
| smeghead | 05-15-2006 04:03 PM |
where did you get the 3M tape from?
All i could find was strong carpet tape from Home Depot

I got some 3M tape from a painters supply store. You can go to a body shop too and ask them, they'd be able to point you in the right direction. I'm going the other way, from a WRX wing to an RS trunk (I'm the sleeper type, 320 HP, quiet exhaust, no wing) :D

i did a trunk swap a long time ago.

Mine is a little uneven (only I'd even notice it) but I found that I couldn't adjust it much during the install. Is there a special technique to use when doing the install to straighten it out a little?

looks good smeg ... havent talked to ya in a while ... hope ya doing good

curious, when installing sti wing, does brakelight wire connect to what went to your third brakelight in rear window?

For me it was the connection from my brake light on my wrx wing. I dont know what the wingless guys use

no but its a perfect match for the wire and connector that was there from the old wing brake light. it would be easy though to tap into the rear window brake light for the wing if you had to.
Hey Gotboost - ltns - il be doing my springs before too long :D
Btw - I taped my wing down last night and it holds great! No wobble and its tight. and I can tell you its good up to 135mph Theres a Mustang GT around here that saw alot of my rear wing last night :D
