Brazilian GP part 1

bemani 09-21-2005 02:29 PM

Brazilian GP
Coming up this weekend! Can Toyota take Ferrari's 3rd place? I say yes :D
TimStevens 09-21-2005 03:11 PM

What I'm wondering: will Taku be so furious about losing his seat that he wrecks, or will he just beat the pants off of Button? Or he wait until Japan to really let it all hang out?
artkevin 09-21-2005 03:15 PM

I might have to miss this one. Will be the 1st race since 2001 that I might not get to see. Stupid Rita is about to stomp a mud puddle in my back door!
Tim-I hope Taku can show some good form in the last few races. I would like to see him and Ant end up at Midland. If not there I hope he comes to Champ Car. I for one really like him even thought he makes BIG mistakes.
TimStevens 09-21-2005 03:19 PM

Hey Kevin, you're welcome to come visit if you need a place to come watch the race! I gots HDTV :)

(wishes F1 were in HD)
artkevin 09-21-2005 03:38 PM

Where do you live Tim? I might have to make the drive. I can't go without my F1, its like a drug!
TimStevens 09-21-2005 05:07 PM

I'm in NY. Would be a bit of a haul, but if you leave tomorrow morning you'd probably get here in time for Friday practice :)

Let me know, we'll get the air mattress out ;)
What I'm wondering: will Taku be so furious about losing his seat that he wrecks?
He'll wreck regardless. ;)

But seriously, I don't think Sato can be that angry about losing his drive. While he may be an entertaining driver to watch, he hasn't carried his weight at all. This year Button has scored 30 of the 31 points for BAR. Last year, when BAR was really hot, Button scored 85 points to Sato's 34. Jense's 85 points landed him third place in the drivers' standings, ahead of all the other non-Ferrari drivers. I think Sato's been lucky to have Honda's blessing and been able to race for so long in F1.
wvallwheeldrive 09-21-2005 09:02 PM

GO Kimi !!!!!!!

With the 10 place grid penalty, Sato will have too many drivers to pass and too many opportunities to wreck to even come close to Button.
SolbergWRCfan 09-22-2005 11:03 AM

Sato only needs one opportunity to wreck, he will always take it.

Hoping for one last chance for Rubio, but not quite enough, and not too much of a push from Fernando...just enough.

K.Raikkonen
J.Montoya
J.Button
F.Alonso
R.Barrichello
J.Trulli
G.Fisichella
D.Coulthard

if anyone is interested in watching F1 live on the west ( 430 am ) coast and your near LA or OC, me and a bunch of guys get together and watch all the time at this nice place on balboa island ( near John Wayne airport ) . they charge $15 but feed you a great breakfast. great sound system and nice flat TV donated by Barry Meguiar who shows up some times. we have a yahoo group you can join for info "local_f1".
Wr4wrX 09-23-2005 01:55 AM

Here are my picks for what may be a historic F1 race (even if it doesn't prove to be one of the more exciting GPs):

P1. Fernando Alonso (I figure he's good for P3 which is good for the championship, but if he's gonna win, I'd like to see him really win.)
P2. Kmi (Isn't his engine due for an explosion soon, which will force him to start from mid-field and race his way through the pack?)
P3. JPM
P4. Jense
P5. Fisi
P6. Ralf
P7. Webbo
P8. Rubino

You do realize that you don't need to wake up 5 in the morning to watch this round right?
finnRex 09-23-2005 08:04 AM

Kevin, if you make it to Dallas and need a place to crash, feel free. I'll be watching the race Sunday, and you'd be more than welcome here:).

My picks.

1. Kimi-because he's got to!
2. JPM-great race, keeps up pace with Kimi.
3. Sato-he's wrecked a lot of times this year, now is his time to shine.
4. Button-will be shocked that he ends up BEHIND Sato.
5. Michael-will put up a heck of a fight, but tires/car won't have the pace.
6. Fisi-only Renault to finish in points
7. DC-still gots it.
8. Klein-figured why not?

speedyHAM 09-23-2005 08:44 AM

I'm going to call it like I see it.

1. JPM- He's due, he's fast, and he's at home
2. Kimi- will be having a great race, then have a problem only to fight back and barely pull out #2
3. Either Michael or Alonso, with the other finishing 4th
5. Trulli
6. DC
7. Barrichello
8. Karthikenan- will have the drive of his life (and everyone else will blow up or crash out)
Dussander 09-23-2005 10:08 AM

You can watch the times live at f1-live.com and formula1.com. I watch both since one has commentary and the other has faster updated times. Normally these are on way too early in the morning, but they are at 9:00 and 12:00 today CENTRAL time.
Dussander 09-23-2005 10:12 AM

New motors for Rubens, Fernando, Webber, Kimi, Masa, Pizzonia, David, Klien, Trulli, and Tiago.
endeavor 09-23-2005 11:21 AM

Why does everyone hate on Alonso? Seriously? I mean yeah it's fun to root for the underdog. But I don't see a single fan of his on here but a ton of Kimi fans.
iamrazor 09-23-2005 11:32 AM

I like watching Alonso. He's very talented (not that anyone in F1 isn't).
anyone else going to watch T&S?
Dussander 09-23-2005 11:35 AM

Where is hate for Alonso in this thread?
My favorite drivers since 03 are: Juan, Kimi, and Alonso in that order, so this year is a great one for me. I think you see a lot of go Kimi comments because it would be fun for it to go down to the wire, but I'm already bored of the Kimi / Alonso battle and I hope Alonso finishes the deal here. Pulling off a win would be best, but third is good enough. If Alonso does win it for this race, then we won't see any team orders for the last two races and that would be good.
finnRex 09-23-2005 04:32 PM

I don't hate Alonso. In fact I respect him quite a bit. He's a young driver who is very talented. He's also in the right place at the right time. Renault has had a great team this year, and their reliability has not been questioned. Alonso is not an arrogant prick, unlike Michael Schumacher during his prime days. Fernando is not the type of guy to let it go to his head(does not appear to be yet).

I pull for Kimi simply because he is a darn good driver, and he's Finnish. So absolutely I am going to be slightly biased;).

Mika
PaulC 09-23-2005 04:37 PM

I don't hate Alonso but I do hate Flavio Briatore. Stupid model dating, s**t talking, microphone kissing, billionare jerk! :disco:

Seriously though, I think everybody is pulling for Kimi because McLaren has been SO FAST but just can't keep their cars together. It's a bit more drama than the Renault story.
endeavor 09-23-2005 04:41 PM

MS in his prime? You mean last year? :p

When I said "hate on" I didn't mean it literally. But in the portion of the F1 threads on here that I've read Alonso doesn't seem to get as much respect as you would think the driver's champ points leader would get.

Alonso on pole. And I don't think he is going to relinquesh that position rather easily. Congrats to Alonso, the new driver's champion.

You guys hear the plug for the guys at Hooters in Tulsa during the race?
We had about 20 poeple together watching it.
Good race and dominating McLaren win!
grandpa rex 09-25-2005 04:32 PM

Congratulations to Fernando! A very deserving champion. Kimi was faster this year, but Alonso was fast and reliable.

Hey Top_Dog: Do you guys meet at the hooters for the European races? At 6AM?

No, that was the first time that I have gone to Hooters for the race. Some of the guys set this up on the Speed TV forums.
artkevin 09-26-2005 09:46 AM

Congrats Fernando. I can't wait to see how '06 turns out. Should be amazing but we still got the constructors to fight over. McLaren should take it hands down though.
bemani 09-26-2005 10:26 AM

I'm surprise MS at least held off one of the Renaults.
BillT 09-26-2005 10:34 AM

I don't think any other driver would have gotten any more from the Ferrari this year than MS.

It was a pretty good race, though the most exciting moments came from seeing where the cars would re-enter the race when they came out of the pits (I kept on hoping that Kimi would appear in front of Juan).
skuttledude 09-26-2005 11:24 AM

Congrats Alonso!!!
The reign of MS is finally over. 2006 should most indeed be an exciting year too.

I talked with my Spainsh friend yesterday just after the race. He said Spain is going crazy...biggest party of all time. (only a world cup win will trump this party!)
He also mentioned that probably nobody will show up to work on monday after the partying that will go on thru the night to morning then all over again. :)
Dussander 09-26-2005 11:40 AM

my recap:
Kimi made a rare mistake in qualy. I was expecting the Renaults to put up a better fight since all the talk of their improved car, but it seemed McLaren still had the better car. Good to see Juan and Kimi in their first fair fight. Hopefully we will get two more in the next two races. Bridgestones new magical tires aren't magical enough, surprise, surprise. TV footage needed more Connie. :) I'm glad the drivers championship is over so now we can watch Fernando can give it all. The Toyota still sucks at mechanical grip. I was probably the only guy cheering when Monteiro did not finish the race. Congrats to Alonso! Like Kimi said, he deserves it.
bemani 09-26-2005 11:49 AM

No you were not
artkevin 09-26-2005 01:59 PM

I think Kimi's year can be summed with the word "mistake". Some where his, flat spot in Germany and Quali in Brazil and some where the team's. He had the pace since the 2nd round but could never get to call all his way at one time.
Alonso on the other hand only made 1 mistake the whole year. Kissing the wall in Canada while leading and Kimi was there to pick up the spoils.
Fred deserves it. Reliable and fast all year long. Good on 'im.

Does anyone know where I can find the footage of Alonso getting out of the car? I know FOM hold on to their footage like its going out of style.
AndyRoo 09-27-2005 10:52 PM

I'm gonna start yelling toma! all the time now...:lol

Congrats to Fernando, he really does deserve the title.

I wonder how much more exciting this season could have been had reliability not been such a factor. Would Kimi have blown Alonso away? What if Fisi was more reliable, would he we be taking points from Alonso race after race?

I think next season will be exponentially better then this already pretty good one.

ALSO, whats up with motorsport.com? i still haven't gotten an results from my picks...
