Atwater ProSolo part 1

makofoto 05-07-2006 12:56 AM

Atwater ProSolo
After Saturday's runs ... San Diego Tour STX winner Alec Osenbach (Yok's) is leading '05 National STX Tour and Pro Solo Champ Josh Sortor (Yok's) by 0.182 seconds, with Jeff Barco (615's) JUST 0.005 seconds behind Sortor. Sortor won the Fontana ProSolo this year while Barco just won the Atwater National Tour last weekend.

In STU, Max Hayter ("BlkWRXWag" '06 STIw/245 Yok's) is leading "Draken," STI/245 Yok's, (Chris Hartman of "Tom Hoppe is a pu$$y/a$$/etc." fame) by a whopping 1.163 seconds ... who is leading his Excellency Bob Tunnell/BMW/265 Yok's of many many National Championships, by 0.257 seconds. Rick Jung is a further 0.357 behind in his EVO. Max was third at the Atwater Tour last week.

Five Nasioc'ers in the top six so far!

nice, thanks for the post up with the standings, looks good to me :)
makofoto 05-07-2006 09:20 PM

BlkWRXWgn, ie. Max Hayter won STU by over a second ahead of Draken, ie. Chris H. Both on Yok's. Max made it to the final 16 in the Super Challenge.

Alex O. beat Jeff Barco in STX, but then lost to him in the first round of the Super Challenge. Sortor was third in STX, with his Yok's toasted. Shoulda been on new RE-01R's. :-)

Jeff Barco/615's went on to place 3rd Over All in the Super Challenge, Top Suby, pushing ?, 2X ES National Champ ? into fourth. Jeff beat '05 SM National Champ Vic Sias on their first run but red lighted his 2nd run. Vic went on to 2nd place behind overall winner Andy Hollis.
jcroy66 05-07-2006 09:58 PM

Good for Andy. :)

I think this might've been Josh's first Pro that he didn't get a class win? Toasted tires are bad... :(

It's always tempting to look at tires and go "they aren't corded yet, they're still fine!!" But heat cycled tires will make you wish for corded tires. :) Were Josh's tires heat cycled or too old (i.e. sitting around since last year) or what?

Congrats to the Subaru guys. Maybe we'll get a chance to meet in Topeka this year?
GEARHEAD23 05-07-2006 10:08 PM

Way to go Max and Jeff
jcroy66 05-07-2006 10:25 PM

I just realized - that was a harsh Honda Street Challenge, if the top 3 Super Challenge finishers were all Street Challenge guys (STS2, SM, STX). Youch.
Skibum4444 05-08-2006 07:48 AM

awesome event guys. I need to sleep.
Draken 05-08-2006 11:08 AM

I want to say great job to Max, he really kicked our asses in STU. I couldn't put a left side down to save my life. I also wanted to say how awesome it was running with Bob Tunnell. And how great it was having my co-driver Sean down for the event.

And all I wanna say is how great it was to see Draken finally focused. I think this should be included in his pitbox.

From another one of our talented Team Blew photographers, Pete Loney/SCCA ...

Max beat Vic Sias Co-Driver Sean O'Boyle/SM in one Super Challenge run but just got nicked out in his 2nd run.

It won the San Diego National Tour with Steve O'Blenes driving it.

What a great weekend. Thanks for all the compliments. It was a great event for the Subaru's and I spent the weekend with an awesome bunch of guys.

Good times:D

Great to see all the Subies out there! Thanks for coming to the Atwater Pro (and Tour), heckuva show. Congrats especially to Jeff for winning the Tour and some excellent driving in the Challenge!

Also would like to publicly thank Garrett (Skibum4444) for stepping up to help us work the Challenge when we were short handed.

Thanks again!

Jen,
Can you say 75+ runs starting with last years Pro Finale.....

"It's always tempting to look at tires and go "they aren't corded yet, they're still fine!!" But heat cycled tires will make you wish for corded tires. "

I could not have worded it any better myself. Now I have 3 months to stew over my mistake. Grrr...!

On the flip side, Jeff and Alec both drove very, very well and congrats to both of them for their individual victories this weekend. Well deserved.

However, in the spirit of our relationship, you both will understand when I say "cherish this victory"...cause it will not happen again...

Feh.. Sorter just gave it away. I'm losing hope in him.

I need to pick someone else now....
Draken 05-08-2006 01:42 PM

Awww, how cute. Do we need to get together for a group hug in Wendover?

I also want to thank Garret for sharing some of his experience with the yokos with regard to presures and camber. And also Max and Barko for helping out with my camber plate swap after Saturday morning runs. i'm just pleased the car is finally working good, and that i drove ok enough to worry Max a little.

Congrats on the challenge placing Jeff, you should buff some of those cone marks off the bumper before the next picture opportunity though. Pretty sure that will be the first Subaru money paid out since Josh won some last year. Congrats to Alex for the class win as well.

Yes we do need a group hug .....

Garret is one good dude, always there to help and Congrats to him for keeping the class Subaru 1-4 and not letting any BMW's in... Good drive Garret.

If you had not hit that ONE cone, you woulda had Max more than just a little worried, don't believe me..... Look at his fingernails, they are all gone....;)

So I hope you don't sell the STI, especially after everything that has happened.

I remember the days of the T-shirt. That was great. If you won you got a pukey yellow t-shirt. If you were one of the other trophy winners, your t-shirt was an attractive gray. What an incentive!

Anyone else remember the Peavey days? I never got that trophy, but it was nice.

Vic and Andy Hollis apparently both spun at the finish of their last runs. Andy doing a 360 and missing cones for the win; Vic sliding into cones for 2nd. These guys were ON IT!

I run in SM against Vic in the SFR region. One thing about Vic, he never gives up. It pisses him off when a street driven EVO beats his times.... which only lasts until he gets heat in his tires (he usually has multiple drivers, Sean, and his wife), then I get my arse handed to me in so many ways...
Impala SS AutoXer 05-09-2006 02:37 PM

Yep, both spun (I was working course). Vic's spin was so spectacular that I didn't even SEE Andy's spin for about 5 seconds or so :D

The course this weekend had a wicked sharp turn right before the finish lights...a finish that practically begged to be over-driven to eek out that last hundredth of a second and pray you don't spin :).

Those of us in the Southeast region know it as the "Faulkner Finish". I've seen Rob go through the lights sideways a number of times.

That was a great event. It was cool to meet and hang out with all the LA folks, and I had a blast in Draken's car.

Huge thanks to Chris for the co-drive!

Sean
BlkWRXWag 05-09-2006 06:47 PM

It was great meeting you Sean. Tell Draken to call Barco... he get's upset if he's not called on a regular basis!
Draken 05-09-2006 07:25 PM

Draken is at work wth horrible cell service, and will be out with teh woman for grub and movies tonight....so Barco is going to have to wait a little longer for phone sex.
