Bugeye sideskirts onto '06 2.5i (or WRX TR)

2.5i sedans don't come with sideskirts from the factory (unlike the wagon), and I want to install some OEM bugeye skirts I got for cheap. My question is: how do I install them?
My 2.5i doesn't seem to have the holes needed for the skirts to snap on, or does it have them plugged and hidden under the paint? If not, can some one suggest an alternative mounting method? (TR guys, what have you done?)

well....SEARCH!!!!! haha...just playing with you..but seriously this topic
has been covered for more than 1000000000000 x 100000000 times...LOL
there're bascially 2 ways to install sideskirts
you can either drill holes and not drill holes....of coz drill holes
will be a better way to secure the skirts...but you can still put it on
without drilling holes...this is what I did and its hold up very well in the past 9mos..
first you need to purchase the END-CAP for the sideskirts (ask subie girl for parts #) then you need to purcahse total 12 screw-in plug (ask subie girl for parts #) that goes underneath the car...6 on each side is enough to secure the skirts IMO...
underneath the car there should be some kinda cover..about the size of a quarter...6 of them each side...take them off...you will have 6 holes on each side under the car...with the plug that u got from subaru..this is what you use to secure the skirts...and on each end of the skirts...you need some sorta bolts or screws to secure the skirts...like mentioned before..in the rear you need to end-cap to make it work...
good luck!

btw...painted sideskirts FTW...IMO if you were to put them on unpainted..might be better off go with the no sideskirts look..esp on the newer model

Haha thanks RS...I did search btw ;) But I wasn't sure if the 2.5i was different than the older RS's when it came to sideskirts since the wagon comes with them.

2002-2007 sidskirt dimensions are ALL the same. You cannot use 2001 and older skirt though, to the best of my knowledge.

Yeah I know the skirts are the same size, and will fit...I just don't have the mounting holes for them ;) That is my question.

silver-RS, are the end caps for the front or the rear of the sidskirts? I have a pair of '04 skirts that I am going to put on as soon as they are done getting painted, I thought they would just bolt up, minus the holes on the sides.
I don't know what this end cap is that you speak of.
I don't plan on drilling holes, I was just going to put some pieces of doublesided tape on the little mounts on the skirts whre the push in plugs would go into the body if there was holes.

Hmm, that sounds like an interesting idea as well.

if you try to fit the skirts on...
you will see...at the end toward the rear wheel well...
there's a gap between the skirts and the body of the car...
thats why you need the END-CAP
i will try to get some pics...tomorrow
the end-cap is not suppose to be painted tho..

You will notice a orange peel loooking trim all along the bottom, I think they cover up the mounting holes with it. I bet if you peeled it back or you could poke through to the holes, you'd be set.
| semaj | 10-31-2006 09:00 AM |
That "orange peel" is like undercoating paint...it can't be peeled off, but there are 6 plugs there for the lower clips. The side clips don't have any holes in the body to go into...but I will be drilling for them.

How much did all of those parts run you? (without skirts)
I just bought a set of WRX skirts, unpainted and only one of them has the rear cap/mud guard thing and I was given a bag of plactic clips. Haven't counted how many there are yet. I'll do it today when I get home.

I got 12 clips and the end caps for aroun $25 or so. I bought 2 oil filters and crush washers at the same time and the total was like $47, hope that gives you an idea.
| semaj | 11-17-2006 08:01 PM |
I got the 12 clips for underneath, the 2 end caps, and the fasteners for the endcaps...all for about $25-30 as well. Sorry I didn't follow up with my own thread...I got the holes drilled under the doors, and the sideskirts installed like OEM a few weeks back ;) Love the look, I will post pics if it ever stops raining!

I use my uncle's employee discount at the Subaru dealer. I just picked up one endcap for $4 (already had one side). I didn't know I need "fasteners" with them though. I'll see if it works or if I need to order a fastener.

There is a plastic screw fastener that goes through the endcap into the body, after you drill a hole of course ;)

Ok, two things...
One is that the part number I got from this thread wasn't the part I needed. I need the mud guard type thing that goes on the rear of the skirt. I'll take a pic of it later.
Two is that f1vlad, you've convinced me NOT to paint my skirts and install them as-is. Looks good man.

Ok, I double checked and those part numbers were not the ones I needed. Anyway, what I was referring to is in fact a small splash guard attached to the skirt itself. Anyone have the part number for it? I can't find a picture of it so I'll take a pic tonight when I get home.

If anyone needs them, I have 10 push-in plugs that I'm not going to use. I'd rather not drill into the car. I'll be using double sided sticky tape. That should work fine. I'll be ordering the 12 underbody clips today. I thought the 0 push-in clips were the clips I needed for the underbody so I spent 45min pooping the plugs off the underbody only to find that I didn't have the right parts! ::furious:: Also, I'm not sure if it's necessary but it would be a good idea to spray on a couple of coats of underbody spray (rubberized) once you pop the plugs off. You don't want that bare metal showing epsecially with winter coming.
| Donzo | 11-28-2006 02:19 PM |
I understand I don't NEED the mudflap part, but I already have one on one of the skirts and I'd rather get the second one instead of throwing the one out. Does anyone have the part number? I'll PM Subie Girl
| Donzo | 11-28-2006 05:35 PM |
Darn, I PMed Subie Gal about the splash guards and she didn't know what I was referring to either. I had no idea this was going to be so difficult to find. Maybe it's a super rare JDM piece yo! lol
| WhiteFox | 11-28-2006 05:53 PM |
I have one for mine. The person I bought the skirts from only gave me one for one side, so I never bothered to put it on, although I might get the other side and put them on.
Have you tried going to the dealer? They can look it up on the computer by looking at the illustration for the side skirts.

Well guys Subie Gal has done it again. She found the part numbers. Got the PM tonight.
It's not part of the sideskirt, it's the under splash guard that attaches using a SIDESKIRT clip
