CAR and DRIVER Race Series: REGISTRATION IS OPEN!

http://www.precisionracing.org/
Finally a schedule and classing available...
Scott
UPDATED INFO
Scott,
Thank you for your interest in the CAR and DRIVER Race Series!
Each competitor will get 10 total runs: 4 on the Skidpad, 3 on the Dragstrip, and 3 on the AutoX coures. Scoring is based on your total time for the event, not individual courses in order to limit drivers who have "specialties" on one course or another. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask. Hope to see you at the event!
Interesting points system for classing of cars...
It's like a commercial version of the SCCA Solo II

I just tried to register for Atlanta and I found it necessary to send the following email message to PRO...
Your main schedule says this:
Atlanta, Georgia Atlanta Motor Speedway October 1-2
When I tried to register I had no option for Atlanta, but one for Charlotte, NC on that same date.
THEN..after doing the classing/mods, etc, the next screen told me I was registering for Atlanta, GA, but in June.
Im confused.
Thanks
There is a group here called the Midwestern Sports Car Council that has a similar points based approach. Cars are all placed in classes based on initial ability but then you can move around classes based on modifications and compete against stock cars with your car. My car added up to 2566 points.
| PhilC | 02-25-2005 09:08 AM |
So our STX car is at 520 points just at a first glance and adding in my head. Makes it not legal for GT3 but MAYBE legal for GT2 (assuming the WRX is listed in T2 which isn't even listed on the site), Hoppe's car from last year wouldn't be legal for GT at all...straight to MT for you Biggly.

With one or two tweaks, I can squeeze in at 450 and be in Grand Touring 3. ;)

I think I'm going to have 490 points to stay in GT1.
Exhaust (15), Tires (250), Sway Bar (25), and Shocks (200).
If I get my DAs those would be 300 points and I'd have to run on my street tires to bring tires down to 200 from 250. Which would give me a total of 540. (550 is max for the class I think).
DAs on street tires I think it is. :)

Whoa... check the dates folks.
It says that Boston is Massachusetts on June 11, 2005 on the reg form, but the schedule says August.

Yeah it'll be more interesting when they have the "Touring 2" class posted. The classing is a little wacky if you ask me. For instance the RX-8 is classed in "Touring 1" but any real modifications get it kicked to GT1 where you are allowed 550 points to upgrade. The EVO/STI aren't classed in any stock Touring class, just GT1, where they are allowed 450 points of modifications.
A boost controller is only 100 points and a fuel cut defenser is only 10 points. Race tires are worth 250 points. So you could race a EVO/STI with unlimited boost in GT1 on race tires.

But on a stock suspension, that's not going to help things.

Yep, it's fixed.
I went to the payment page... and was like I don't even know how much it costs and had to get out of the form to try and find it. On the home page. $99 for one day??? Daymn this better be good!
So then I went to register again... got to the payment page again and ..whats my credit car number? I went to pull it out and realized I left my license and $$ at home. DOH!
$100 bucks for one day? I'm going to have to think long and hard about this one.

The stock suspension on the EVO and perhaps the STI is good enough to beat pretty much anything else that'll be running that class with more boost and race tires.

Like you said, you can take an STi/EVO with upped boost and R-Compounds and will probably kick Stock class cars asses. (but how many will have just upped boost and R-compounds) and no other mods? (Becuase if you're doing that, you're in SCCA SM and you've got more than just those two things)

Would I be correct in assuming that a TBE is not within these options?
Exhaust
(15) Replacement or removal of the exhaust system from the final catalytic converter back
(20) Non-standard exhaust manifold or headers
(25) Replacing factory catalytic converter(s) with a high flow unit(s)
(75) Removal Of Factory Catalytic Converters
If thats the case, then my 450 assumption above was just flushed down the proverbial toilet. :(

The way I read that:
15 points for a cat back
20 Points for header/uppipe(Sti)
25 Points for downpipe and midpipe w/cats
75 points for downpipe and/or midpipe w/o cats, although this is probably also be the case for the uppipe on a WRX since there is a cat there also.

The video on the front page says 10 timed runs. That's probably 2 each way around the skid pad, 4 down the drag strip and 4 around the cones.
Anyone figured out if you have to work a course as well?.. because avoiding the coursework is the only way the $100 is a good deal. I'll be the first to sign up for corner work on the drag strip though ;)
For $100 you could get some real HPDE track time.

Heh just open notepad or something and jot them down as you go, it's not like the classes are real granular, it's easy to see whether you are in GT, Modified, or Open.
$100 is a lot for one day of competition, but it's somewhat unique, and I believe winning the competitions at a local level qualify you for other things.
We have an event going on at Miller Park with another local autocross club on the same day as one of the days of the PRO event, which should be interesting... We've run multiple events at the same time at the site before, but I don't know what kind of crowd this is going to attract.

.. doesn't the 'register' link do that
According to it, my escort qualifies for GT4.. doesn't matter that it's going to run high 18s in the 1/4.. but it goes up against an RSX. Not enough classes to give slow cars a chance to compete... I'll stick to SCCA.
---
My RS is GT4 as well... and it would eat my escort alive on everything but the skidpad.

I *think* I'll be in GT4 as well. But I doubt they will have a 1/4 mile setup. Look at the locations: Parking lots. I don't know of many parking lots that would support a 1/4 mile drag let alone runoff for cars going 100+MPH.
Maybe they will run a couple hundred feet at most. In which case my 2.5RS "should" dominate anything else in GT4

That class list is just screwy. Unless I'm reading it wrong the only place the WRX STi exists is as part of GT1 meaning a completely stock STi couldn't run in T at all. And the only place a WRX exists is as part of GT3 meaning it can't run in T either. I guess a WRX with 520 points ends up in MT2. Actually that might not be so bad, borrow some race rubber from someone for the day and have some fun.
The Cleveland one is at the IX center, they've got several runways that they can use for the drag strips, easily 3/4 mile long or the access roads between the parking lots are at least that long as well. I'd guess that isn't common elsewhere.

How many pts did you end up with Corey? Without the cat and with the new wheels and tires, we hit 1312 and bump ourselves from T4 to MT2.....provided we run 94 octane and no spacers on the wheels, otherwise we go to open mod.... ;)

The Cleveland location doesn't really have a dragstrip area for really quick cars to shutdown safely unless they pull alot of strings with the airport nearby...... Maybe we should drag Civics around a skidpad and launch them like a discus? :) I doubt they'd convoy everyone to a seperate location just for the drag portion.....
