Carbon Fiber Hoods part 1

Carbon Fiber Hoods
I'm looking into getting a carbon fiber hood for my 2003 Silver WRX. I just wanted to know if anyone had anything, good or bad, to say about their CF hood.

I came across a few sites that have them. I'll put some links here to see what you guys think.

I bought a Seibon CF hood from Garret at World One and I love it. Fit is perfect, and I've been driving it a couple of weeks with no hood pins and it seems fine. I may end up putting some on though just to be safe, the hood is a little flexible around the scoop and it vibrates slightly at highway speeds. Or if you have a FMIC, go for the Kaminari reverse scoop hood, it's badass too. :D

Thanks Se3n,

I'll do a search and see what I can find out about Seibon CF hoods.

Thanks Again,
Tom

Anyone else?

Bump... anyone else?

I'll be getting a VIS carbon fiber hood shortly, most likely today actually, so I'll let you know what I think about it.

Did you get the VIS CF Hood? Get back to me and let me know what you think.

Thanks,

I have a VIS cf hood and it looks so good. I dont have hood pins either and havent had any problems yet. I was told that I dont need them from the shop where I got it. I must admit that I was nervous at first on the freeway because it does flap a little on ruff road. The only problem I encountered was the metal piece that fits under the scoop has fallen off. It is pretty heavy considering it screws into fiberglass and I need bigger screws with washers to fix it.
TVA 10-30-2003 11:41 PM

Well I did in fact pick up the car today. The hood can only be described as badass. The fitment is great, the quality is wonderful and it looks beautiful. I don't have hood pins either and I think that it'll be fine. If you are looking at getting a hood VIS is definatly a contender. I got mine for $500 total. Hope that helps in your search.

I do appreciate your responses. I hope I'm not askign too much, but is there any chance of getting some pix of the hood on the car? You know closed, up close, with the hood open, etc. I'm most def leaning towards the VIS hood and my check is in the mail, literally. I will, most likely, be ordering next week.

awdwrxluvr -

Any pix you'd care to share?

Thanks Again,
Tom

ami2fst4u 11-03-2003 04:41 PM

It's slower than a grandma walking, but never the less the link works. The hood looks good, as does the fitment. VIS is sorta a toss up some hoods look nice some look like crap (trust me I know from experience on my last car the hood was horrible looking :() not very consistent but that is just my .02.

Alright... it seems like mopst of these hoods are all one piece, including the scoop. Does anyone know if there is a carbon fiber hood out there with a seperate scoop?

Thanks,
Tom

My VIS is a two piece hood. I still have to get around to setting up an account with a hosting service for pics. They'll be up in awhile.

frustrated...
Has anyone on here seen a fiber images hood in person? I've been trying to order one but I'm not having a lot of luck getting replies to my emails to their dealers so far.

(My hood got crumpled in a parking lot so I'm probably going to end up spending most of the insurance settlement on a new hood.)
silverbetty 11-07-2003 10:38 AM

Wolfen42 -

Try this email address, [emailprotected]. I actually emailed them yesterday and they got back to me last night about the hood for a 2003 WRX, it is $675.00 plus shipping.

How much did you get from your insurance company? I had a branch come down on my hood and I got $710.00 to get it fixed, but $610.00 after my deductible. Also, are they going to replace it or just fix it? For mine they estimate is to fix the dents, though I pushed for a new hood, no luck. I called a dealership and the factory hood is about $450.00. They come unpainted, so if you were to weigh the options the carbon fiber may be cheaper after the expense of painting, etc.

By the way, the adjuster hooked it up because I had the 3M Paint Protectant installed. I told him it was $225.00, which it was, but I could have gotten more. No worries though!

Have a good one,
Tom

Anyone know when Seibon is going to make the CW style hood again? I am in desperate need on one.

Wow... which insurance company were you dealing with? I took my car to a shop that had an adjuster for my insurance company and they sourced a new hood. (The aluminum WRX hoods are not repairable according to the collision repair sources they use)

So they estimated a new hood and prep/painting for it and to blend the fenders and paint/repair the bumper.
It came to over $1000 total. They cut me a check and I'm waiting for it to arrive so the shop can get started.

(Of course someone just hit my car AGAIN today... stopped at a red light and a freakin uninsured driver scrapes up the side of my car trying to thread the needle between my car and another one. :furious: )

I don't think we're in the same situation. I tree branch left 9 or so dings in my hood, passenger side right next to the scoop. It's like there are a number of door dings and nothing more. They adjuster said they would use body filler and smooth out the hood and paint the entire thing. I did push for a new hood, but had no luck.

Also, a friend of mine works in a body shop and he said that all the insurance would do would be to fix the ding using filler and repaint it. He knows his stuff too.

I got my check back from the company I have my loan through yesterday. I don't know whether to get the carbon fiber hood now or wait until spring. We're supposed to have a horrible winter so I see no sense in putting the hood on now anyway.

I'll be sure to keep this post alive when I order and recieve my hood. I'll tyr and upload some pix for those of you that may have questions or whatever.

Thanks,
Tom

Get This
A friend works for a local custom graphics shop and occasionally they have a guy stop by with carbon fiber hoods. It just so happens this guy had one for a WRX. Yeah that's right, so I didn't have to pay the $100.00/$150.00 shipping charge for freight to get a hood to my door. I just had to get my dad to pick it up in his truck, simple enough.

So I have my hood and scoop, what next? I'd like the keep the orignal in condition to put it back on, if needed, one never knows. What hardware is need for my carbon fiber hood? I know I need the bolts/screws for the scoop to be attached. Also, I need a new latch and bolts for that and washer nozzles and hood pins. I'd like to get some paint work done to it, but would the hood pins be installed first, or what? Is there anything else you guys think I'd need?

I'd like to get this thing in order so I can put it on when it gets warm again.

Thanks,
Tom

Hood Hardware
Hey Guys -

I was able to get my hands on a hodd at a good price. The only thing I need now is it to be late Feb/early Mar. to put it on. In the mean time I'm going to get it ready to go so when it does get warm again I can put it on.

Does anyone know what hardware I'd need? I'd like to have the original hood and this carbon fiber hood both ready to go at anytime. I need the hood latch and screws/bolts for that, the washer nozzles, and the screws/bolts to attach the scoop to the hood. Can anyone think, or know of, anything else I'd need? I'm also looking to install hood pins, so let's add those to the list.

Thanks,
Tom

I wish Seibon would stop calling their hood a C-West replica. It looks nothing like it. It looks like a Cusco MAYBE. This is the C-West hood on my car. Weight saving? Uh, yeah. I have the scoop now too but I don't have good pics of it.
