carbon fiber replica spoiler

I've been looking for a replica carbon fiber spoiler for my car and I keep going around in circles trying to figure out the different ones available...
Is there a difference between "s202 replicas" and "STI style replicas", or are these the same thing?
There's also a huge difference in price between different companies. Megan Racing for example has a CF spoiler for $260, while Gruppe-s has something that looks exactly the same for $350. Can anyone vouch for any specific company, or explain these huge differences??

when it comes to cf price usually differs based on quality.
and s202 is vastly differnt from the usdm sti wing

Gruppe-S calls their wing a "Replica STi Carbon Fiber Wing - 02+ WRX". This is what I was referring to, not the USDM big-momma wing :D .

Anyone have any high-res pics of the Megan Racing spoiler?
This one is by far the cheapest I've found. Seems like it's the same as all the rest, but I don't want to skimp if the finish quality sucks...

ive always been impressed with megan racing stuff...im actually thinking about giving that spoiler a try for the summer....

I happen to have the megan racing spoiler on my car and it is wonderful. I love the look that it gives to the car. Its not all that tall either which is nice. The quality of the carbon fiber is great too. the only issue i have with it are the plastic bases and how they scratch really easily, that is being fixed soon though
| j03yk | 12-14-2005 10:56 AM |
Great to hear...thanks for the info. Are the brackets removable from the spoiler?
Only reason I ask is that I got an email from megan racing saying the spoiler was a one-piece design. I would like the option to swap out the provided brackets with some custom ones in the future perhaps to avoid the plastic base altogether.
Also, got any pics??

yeah...definitely post some pics if you can. I'd really like to see closeups of the carbon fiber, and the brackets to see how they are attached.

alright, i will take pictures this weekend and post them up when i get the chance the cf might be a lil dirty from all the snow and salt though

Haha...I thought I was going to get one of these, but I might just stay wingless. I never used to like the wingless STI look because of the unbalance caused by the big scoop. I looked through some of the wingless threads though, and some of them look pretty sweet if the car is dropped a bit. I'll have to wait and see once I get your trunk.
Either way it's good that I'll have the option to go either way!

i have the megan racing spoiler also. I love it, but the company is horrible to deal with, My first shipment was lost, it took them over a month to send out a new one. I ended up getting both of them, the second one over 3 weeks later. I offered to send it back at their expense. They wanted me to send it at my expense, and i refused and they threatend to sue. I told them to have it picked up the next day or i am throwing it out. It was picked up by DHL that day.
Love the spoiler, hate the company.

You call that a drop?
| IceWilly | 12-16-2007 04:46 PM |
no, no drop. can't afford a drop in my part of the country. but i will go rear spats which will help tie the rear together. I had the car lowered, but smacked everything and had the springs off within 4 days :( we aren't all so fortunate to have west coast roads
| BigRed06 | 12-16-2007 08:39 PM |
Your car wouldnt look bad sporting the CF wing IceWIlly, it would look more s203 than ricey on your car.
| IceWilly | 12-16-2007 09:01 PM |
thats what I keep telling myself. the combo of the V1 lip, dark tint, mudflaps and wing would be nice. I'd almost want the thing pure black, or flat black or something. but a non body painted wing like that.... i fear people will get the wrong idea. i'm the last person that will indulge anyone in a street race and i am a 24 year old engineer. Not trying to give off any wrong impressions that will hurt me.
| BigRed06 | 12-17-2007 06:30 PM |
that sounds good, no mudflaps though! If you dont like it, put the STi wing back on, but you should check it out, your car could pull it off.
| IceWilly | 12-17-2007 09:33 PM |
the plan would be to swap for wrx trunk +cash. then buy that wing and have the option to swap between both... Too bad i don't know a wrx owner that would swap temporarily, that way i could check it out and still be able to get my STi trunk back

Amen to that. City roads, whether east or west coast sucks. But even I say some lowering is required. WRX SUV doesnt do it for me.

I just picked up the Megan Racing CF wing directly from them (to answer kunfuzion's question). It took them a few days to process the order, but it was shipped the same day that they received the payment.
The problem is that it doesn't fit! Their product page says it fits the 02-03 WRX, but when I called them, the (mostly unhelpful) guy said that most people who buy that wing put them on STis. I wish I could have bought an 02 STi. *shrug*
Anyway, it appears that the folks in this thread were able to get them on their 02-03 WRXes with no problems.
Has anyone run into fitment issues? If I put the brackets on the wing and center it on the trunk, the front trunk holes are about 1/8" closer (on both sides) together than the holes on the brackets, and the rear trunk holes are about 1/2" closer together (on both sides) than the brackets.
I have the brackets assembled as shown in the second pic in the post below. That is not my wing, I'm just using the post for illustrative purposes:

Other than fitment, it's a really nice wing, IMHO. And it was packed rather securely (cardboard spacers, two layers of bubble wrap, one layer of a cloth-like material). I don't know why I mentioned the packing.

Whats up guys?
I just recently bought a 06 Subey DUB sedan and I've been searching for that 06-07 limited factory spoiler that they have on them. I believe its called a "lip spoiler" but different sites are saying different things. Any help on where I can get my hands on one?

Yeah, I figured I must have messed something up, but I put it together the same way as the pics that I saw, and everything is close to lining up - but no dice. I've tried to flip around the parts, but nothing seems to get it in line.
Oh, wait, the name of the wing on the box did say "STI Carbon Fiber Spoiler". I assume there is only one wing though - there is only one part number on their site and it is listed as an 02-03 WRX part, so I assume they just left off the word "replica."
I picked up some longer bolts at the hardware shop, and used some washers for spacers and I was able to bolt it up. *shrug*
Oh, while I'm at it, I assume the black plastic bracket covers are just friction-fit? The red adhesive pads protect the paint, and the foam "weatherstripping" is stuck on the inside slot of the plastic covers, and then slipped over the brackets? Or is the foam attached to the brackets themselves?
Anyway, I can't mess around with it right now 'cause my power steering sprung a leak and the car is in the shop. Yay. Had the wing for a whole day!

I did this to my 06 a couple of days ago. Here's the deal -
The pics in the link are correct. This is the only way you can get the support legs straight and close to where they need to be. The problem is the supports cannot bolt up to the actual wing unless you space it out with washers or something. It's just not possible. I used 5 washers on one side and 4 on the other.
There is a company in China (or somewhere) that makes all of these things (for GT Spec and a hundred other companies) and none of them fit correctly. I don't know if this is a recent thing or if it has always been this way.
As for the black plastic covers that go over the support legs bases - the red adhesive pads are double sided tape and they will stick the covers down quite firmly. Problem is, they are poor quality and don't have flat bottoms so they don't stick down evenly. I expect dirt and water to get under mine and eventually cause them to come off.
All in all, I wish I'd paid the ludicrous amount for a real S202 wing. Live and learn.
Chris.

damn, that sucks.. i'm not even sure what to tell ya about that fitment issue=(
the plastic covers are kinda friction fit.. but there should be some doubleside tape that's fitted underneath to stick onto the trunk iirc.. the length should fit the bracket pretty well with just a little bit of leeway.. if i still had my wing, i could take pics for ya.. too bad i sold it already=/
ahh well.. g'luck with everything
