Monte Carlo 2003 photos

Just got home from a few days in Monte Carlo for the rally.
I arived just in time for the start in Casino square Thursday.
Friday i drove 300Km's to stage 5/6, Saturday i spent the morning playing in my hire car and drove the Col de Turini stage, i filmed the full run from start up to the snow covered summit and then down the steep decent, great fun. The brakes were smoking at the bottom.
I then did the hike from hell, 5 miles up an Alpine mountain, saw the 25 remaining WRC cars through and then hiked 5 miles back down again. Ouch, my legs hurt. That feat deserved a night on the town so off to the Stars N Bars for the night with me.
Today i spent the day in the service park, i got hold of some VIP passes so could go right into the main service area that joe public doesnt have access to. I got right in the thick of it as the 3 Citroens went through final service and then came in for the pre finish ceromony checkup. Got some great shots of the madness that was the french press, plus some shots of the drivers meeting Prince Albert of Monaco.
I took around 250 Photos, here are just a selection. Hope you enjoy them.
P.S. I took a load of Photos of the 2003 Impreza WRC, i'll post those seperately.

I didnt see a lot of marshals in your pics, were you showing up at splits hours in advance or simply going back country to get to your viewing spots. Other than the service park none of your shots look to be from spectator areas. I wish I could have been there! Maybe I will see you in Turkey, thats my next event...

Thanks everyone, glad you like the photos.
There are no spectator areas such as used on the NetworkQ, there are two ways to spectate really. One is to get to stage very early and drive in using the road used for the stage and park up. The second is to use the normal side roads to get near the stage and walk in from there.
Once on stage you can go where you like within reason, the French treat you like an adult, unlike the crap you get on the NetworkQ.
The hike was exhausting, i am just glad it was fairly cold, otherwise i would have been a seriously roasted. Stunning scenery though and looking back on it i am glad i made the walk, do i have sore legs now though, it was steep as hell!
My favourite moment has to be driving the col de turini stage, i have heard about that road for 20 years and have now driven it as fast as a 1.2 clio can take it in safety :lol: Huge fun! I got to run some of it in snow too, clasic monte carlo stuff! :D I'll have to post a few small video clips as i rigged te car up with a camera for the whole stage run. :lol:
Thats Calos's rear brake, or rather a lack of it, he came into service with it like that having just lost 3rd place to Marco Martin. He then went out and got 3rd back, great stuff!

I looks like the disc is off, what appears to be left is the ABS sensor plate. That would be my guess.

It's a joke refering to when Glenn was here for the Network Q Rally GB in November. He put the hire car into a ditch parking it up and had to go find a tractor to pull it out. Very funny stuff.

Thanks for sharing all the great pictures and your experiences in Monte Carlo. I think someone needs to make a movie called: "Being John Felstead" I can just see the shot of you being you, and you are in a race pit somewhere, where everyone within sight is you! (If you haven't seen "Being John Malkovich" A - see it, B - none of this will make sense.)

My life isnt that exciting, sadly i have to go to work during the week, but i do try and make the most of my spare time, you are only here once etc.
I have a lot of years in the sport and a lot of contacts too so I guess for a motorsport and fast car nut i get to do a lot. I know i am lucky in that respect. It's great to be able to share some of that too.
