Carbon Fiber Sunroof. part 1

powerlabs 05-25-2005 01:38 PM

Carbon Fiber Sunroof.
I searched, and the one thread about it did not come up with any answers, so here it goes again:
I do not believe anyone makes a CF Sunroof for the CG8 impreza. Does anyone know a company that might be able to make one?
Chris Cuevas 05-25-2005 01:52 PM

Yes you can contact Team Prototype here in San Diego, CA...
Contact Information:
Team Prototype/
CF Type
(619)429-8973
cftype.com
teamprototype.com

Give them a call and ask for Mike Madriaga.. If he is not available you can ask for Adrian. Team Prototype/ CF Type specializes in Carbon Fiber. They can make molds or wrap anything you have in CF...

Mike Madriaga is a good friend of mine. So if you have any problems getting ahold of him, please let me know and I will get in touch with him for you !!
Mike has done some CF work for me and several other members on my team.
The quality of their work is perfect. But I must warn you, they are bit pricey. But in this hobby/industry, you get what you pay for and since there are no other shops that specialize in Carbon Fiber... well you know...

Let me know if you have any other questions regarding their products and what they can do for you !!! I stop by the shop once a week to keep in touch and check up on work that is being done for me or my fellow teammates !!!

If you do speak with him just let him know that Chris from Team Showcase with the Red WRX sent you !!! He will take care of you.. Let me know if you have any problems !!

I know Adam (awjunkies) has one for his gc8. It was custom made
powerlabs 05-25-2005 06:39 PM

Really? Do you know who made it?
thechoochman28 05-28-2005 06:45 PM

well...just guy that did carbon fiber work on the side. But he's not around anymore It's a long story.
15secWRX 05-28-2005 10:38 PM

Taking it a little further, a buddy of mine is doing a CF roof. Its still being worked on, not a WRX but you get the idea.

Lennon 05-29-2005 06:56 AM

yes a cf roof would certainly be the $hit.
BurtonCR 05-29-2005 10:27 AM

I think Pennon Composites made some in the past. They are out of Syracuse, NY. You can find their site online.

This car is sick!!!! Where did you get it and how much did that cost?
cf_impreza 05-29-2005 10:07 PM

cali, about 1300. its real pricey and i still dont know how they got it to stay on. its magical though. and it just looks damngood.
MB38 05-30-2005 12:05 AM

Jeez, $1300 for a few hundred bucks worth of CF and shaping? It looks great but... wow.
WRBlue Flava 05-30-2005 01:34 AM

Launsport has some of these CF stuff to offer: http://www.launsport.com/

CF roof - around 42000 Yen

CF Fender

CF WRC bumper 250000 Yen!

MB38 05-30-2005 01:47 AM

I wish they made those fenders for bugeyes. Any idea what rims those are? 255/30 R19 is ridiculous on a WRX. I'd love to see 255s on 17s.
cf_impreza 05-30-2005 02:58 AM

just called my boy and he says the guy that did the roof is independent now, so i would imagine its alot cheaper, at least 5 or 6 cheaper, hes gonna try to get ahold of him and get a quote so ill keep you informed.

I bet that's the price for the roof vent not the actual roof. Unfortunately.
I bet that's the price for the roof vent not the actual roof. Unfortunately.
No, It is the price of the CF roof, but it is just a thin layer
of CF stick on top of your steel roof. :p
dead-eye 06-01-2005 02:33 AM

I have a GC8 CF sunroof from Pennon Composites. It came in 2 versions: glossy coat and primered coat. It cost about $250 IIRC. There were 2 things wrong with it: you can see the indentations on the top where the screws are located; it wasn't apparent until I got it painted. The other problem was the rubber seal; you can try to reuse your old one or you can order a new one. I ordered one and it was cracked. The replacement that was sent was also cracked.
SlvSurfer 06-01-2005 03:52 AM

Will it cover small dents in your roof? There's some scratches and small dents in my roof :(

I was thinking of getting a cf roof.
TommyRaddcliff 06-01-2005 02:45 PM

You don't search much, do you?

VIS GC8, off ebay.

Now back on topic... I am still looking for a CF sunroof. Those CF roofs look absolutely awesome, but I'm pretty sure its beyond my budget :(

bump in hopes of a update on GC CF roof panel/sunroof panel
pn2503 02-07-2011 06:56 AM

If you've got $500 burning a hole in your pocket (or even better can get together a group buy), these guys will fab up a plug for any car.

http://www.lighterfaster.com/13194.html

I was thinking about doing it myself, since it would not only replace the heavy glass, but also all the motor mechanisms, etc. Add to that the fact that there's really no better place to shave weight off any car than off the top.

...Just not sure if I can live without a sunroof.
Landin2010 02-07-2011 11:05 AM

check the date on this thread, the last post was in 05
griff9502 02-07-2011 11:38 AM

Holy bump from hell!!!!
Darth Wagon 02-07-2011 01:39 PM

Wise from your gwave!
pn2503 02-07-2011 06:33 PM

You know you wanted to see this thread again. ;)

BTW- found a CF roof provider/producer for the GC.

http://dev.aerosim-motorsports.com/shop/article_004/Carbon-Fiber-RS-Roof.html

So the next logical question would be- $500 for a sunroof plug, or twice that for the whole roof?

I just wanna lose weight in the two places it matters- the front and the top. Lowering height of CoG and neutral Front/Rear balance FTW!
