Cheaper Racing Seats! part 1

milla 11-02-2003 08:16 AM

Cheaper Semi-Racing Seats!
I was wondering what you guys thoughts are on some cheaper racing seats. I was looking at the Tenzo R Seats but from what I read they tend to fade!! Anyone else have any suggestions on some seats around like 600 for the pair??

Milla

Oh any pics would be appreciated
STI 2 NV 11-02-2003 08:52 AM

honestly, i'd say save your money for better seats. tenzo's do have a tendency to fade, so do most seats, but the tenzo's seem to faster than others. with cheaper seats u just aren't going to get as good of quality as sparco, momo, etc. i also suggest keep your eye on ebay. i've seen some amazing deals on seats there, brand new too.
Hondaslayer 11-02-2003 09:45 AM

And will it be worth the savings if you get into an accident and said cheap seat does not protect you???
milla 11-02-2003 09:48 AM

I really like the Sparco Torinos but at 550 a piece thats a little much more then I can spend. Thats why i was leaning towards the Tenzo R's. You can get them for about 550 a pair.

honestly man, i'm not sure if in the long run u will be happy with the tenzos. they will fade fast and turn nasty colors. there is a reason they are only $550 a pair.
milla 11-02-2003 10:42 AM

What about Corbeau?? From what I hear there seats are cheap priced but really good?

Milla
Redneck Ricer 11-02-2003 12:57 PM

you really do get what you pay for, from comfort, quality, weight, etc..
Save and get the goods.
check out this months sport compact car. they have a good writeup comparing hundreds of seats, and you can really tell from the comments why more money is well spent.

I went from STI to torinos to recaros. spend the money, your back will be happy :)

As many of us know, your car is a trailer queen so go ahead and get the el-cheapo ricey Tenzo R seats. Maybe they'll get you a trophy?

SDscooby 11-02-2003 01:50 PM

racing seats? you have a race car?

Dumb response of the day. Imprezas are not "race cars" they are street cars, BUT they can be raced. Hence many companies make racing seats for street cars. However, by going El-Cheapo on your racing seats we can assume those who choose them are just POSERS.

:D
2.0 11-02-2003 07:22 PM

A true race seat does not recline, and usually the bolsters are so large that you wouldn't be able to reach the coffee in your cupholder.

The Tenzos are more show--not really go. Not a rAce seat...a rIce seat.
IronMonkeyL255 11-02-2003 08:34 PM

I like 'semi-race' seats. Seats with more bolstering that holds you in, but that will still recline and whatnot. Then again, my car doesn't go fast, so I don't need 'full-race' seats...

scoobydorift 11-03-2003 01:14 AM

the sparco sprint is a cheap race seat. not sure on comfort level but it is made by sparco so it sould be quality. i think they retail for like 220.00
pilfflip 11-03-2003 02:04 AM

I have a seat Guide

yea man that was pretty dick.

I have a Semi/Racing seat guide and it gives a list of about 7 different companies, comfort levels, prices, how they are made internally, quality, and it has about 70+ seats in it if you want some more info pm me.
InfamousDX 11-03-2003 03:27 AM

Hell... buy my front and rear STi seats... those will keep you in your place nicely!
Kostamojen 11-03-2003 03:42 AM

Here you go, Sparco Sprints with brackets for an RS for $340 each (including brackets and hardware):

(scroll down a ways)
suby ej25 11-03-2003 08:18 AM

try one of the vendors...they usually get jdm/uk subaru seats pretty cheap and you don't have to worry about rails

milla 11-03-2003 10:18 AM

Thanks for all the responses!!! I am looking for a street racing seat. I am looking for the type that reclines as this will mainly be a show car

Infamous how uch you looking to get for them??

Thanks again guys

You can get Corbeau's for pretty "cheap" about $300 a seat for I think the A4's. They recline, for the street/race driver.
They are the one's I'd get but I'm too poor right now. My friend has only had good things to say about his.
grndc2gsr 11-03-2003 12:39 PM

the tenzos are very uncomfertable and not supportive at all. my freind has the grey and black ones they have not faded too much over the last year. i was going to get some untill i sar in his car the are poor quailty and look cheap in person. why not get 1 good seat who cares about the passanger
speedblind 11-03-2003 02:43 PM

Another vote for the Corbeau seats. I've seen them on a few show cars and have been impressed by the look/build quality. Definately on the wish list...
HiFiWRX 11-03-2003 03:51 PM

one of my import magazines just had a "seat guide" they tested every seat you can imagine and rated them for different size people and on their quality and support! GREAT reference! I'll find it when I get home.
HiFiWRX 11-03-2003 03:56 PM

I am thinking about getting Chargespeed "Supreme series" seats since I am going to be a dealer for them shortly! Look for a GB as soon as I get my vendor status!

as i mentioned above, it was this months sport compact car
oopsie! I completely missed that line of your post :D Recaro's are nice but some people don't like the support as the backs are typically quite flat (I like them myself, they are just so expensive and some of the others are comparable IMHO)

if I was to get a set I would get the sparco ultra for $369
http://www.sparcousa.com/pseats_competition.asp?id=82
one thing to consider is if they are DOT , I was rear ended a few months back and my stock seat got bent 30 deg backwards from the impact and messed my back and neck up pretty bad . I cant imagine how a cheap seat would of held up.......
M32WRXin3seconds 11-03-2003 04:46 PM

if your still looking for info pick up the new Sport compact car. they have a review of just about every seat you can get. the corbeau CR-1's also called the carrera's are affordable, tilt, and have high reviews as well as the corbeau legacy you can get them for 350-400 each or less

hope that helps
Pengo 11-03-2003 04:55 PM

yea, if u can't afford a sparco or recaro or bride, corbeau would be my next best cheaper choice. i've sat in a a4 before, it held pretty well and i liked them because they are like one of the narrower seats. some of the more supportive seats get too wide and stick out too much. corbeau gets my vote
M32WRXin3seconds 11-03-2003 05:42 PM

well with a 34 waist, the corbeau cr1 fits nice, i sat in a set and i have to have them. it fits your arse and shoulders nicely and you feel like your glued in :)
milla 11-27-2003 11:40 PM

to update this I went with the Tenzo R's.

I will have them tomorrow.... In another couple months I will update it again with how they are.

At 550 shipped for the pair i couldnt refuse them for a show car!!

Milla
KevinWRX 11-28-2003 08:26 AM

gah damnit...for once you dont ask me how they are milla..since you seem to ask me about everything else ( which i dont mind)

Be warned these seats are **** man. You should have went for Corbeaus!!!! Corbeaus are great if you cant afford the Sparcos..oh wells..

I've yet to meet someone who doesn't like the european 04 wrx seats (as far as fitment). You can get em for $800 a pair and your stock sliders work.

Hey Jeff, how much are those Chargespeed seats? Do they make brackets for them that fit our car?
Marcel
ANashTy 11-28-2003 09:18 PM

Corbeau's arent bad .. they are a little more than tenzo Rs but better quality, but still not recaro or sparco ..... i say save up for the sparco/recaros or get STi seats

i was also going to say the same thing. if or when i might say i decide to get a race seat, it would be the sparco sprint but i might go as hardcore as the speed. sprint is the street version with some cushion and the speed dont have cushioning. do they have jdm sparcos cuz im even a little too small for a sprint? but ive sat in them and they are really nice. hold nice, legs are compfy yes, if you want race seated they better not recline and be super hard to get in and out of.
KIMUTAKU 11-29-2003 02:12 AM

he is not getting full bucket racing seats...that's y he needs 2 of them...otherwise it will look weird..

if u do just 1, it has to be non-reclinable...IMO..;)

What would be close to the black / blue in this pic:

http://www.subaru-sti.co.jp/parts/impreza/image/6-8.jpg

I'd like those, but then mod them to have heating elements :)

Considering an 04 STi purchase and love the black & blue look
WanganRunner 12-12-2003 06:47 PM

Recaro rules, us gargantuan westerners can't fit into Brides (I had a helluva uncomfortable time in a Zeta-II once).

Oh, and those Chargespeed seats look really cool.

Other good seats:

JIC
Buddy Club
ViS ($$$$$$$$$ for their all-CF one).
