Crawford Performance Guest Driver: Patrick Richard (Video)

Another great opportunity, Patrick Richard pilots the Crawford Widebody STi at Willow Springs International Raceway.
On their way back to Canada, after just completing a long rally at the X-Games Event , Patrick Richard dropped by to say hi and try his luck with the Crawford Widebody STi.

For those of you who don't know Patrick Richard pilots the Rocket Rally Subaru Rally Car and in 2005 won the North America Rally Championship. While having a vast background in rally racing getting the car sideways on tarmac doesn't always make the car faster. Lets see what he can do...
High Quality (720x480): 40 megs Guest Driver: Patrick Richard
Patrick Richard Another successful test for the Crawford Performance STi. We would like to thank Patrick Richard for taking the time to stop by on his way back to Canada.

P.S. Patrick Richard ran a 1:30.722 for his first time out in the Crawford STi.

Pat is/was sponsored by OMP, and thus the "rebadging" of the peltor. It's pretty common, actually. I know of at least one other fairly popular rally personality that frequents this website that has done the same....

It's not a Peltor, it is an OMP Helmet. OMP and Peltor rally (open face) helmets are all made in the same factory. Pat has ALWAYS used OMP helmets since early 2000 when his sponsorship with them began.

I won't believe it till I see it. That is hands down a swedish made peltor helmet with OMP stickers covering the peltor paint.

Peltor and OMP helmets are both made by MAVET in Italy. Never have seen a blue OMP, though. But I'd take Pat's word on it. Regardless, it's the same helmet.
| tora | 08-31-2006 12:55 PM |
The Blue OMP helmets were made to match the Rally blue cars of Subaru Canada.

Absolutely nothing. :) Sans traction control, Schumacher does the same thing. It usually means you are at the limit of the tires.

A tire's grip changes with steering input and throttle/brake application. At the limits of adhesion, a driver makes slight steering inputs to keep the tires in the "traction circle". A corner can rarely be taken in a "set-it-and-forget-it" way if the car is near its limits. If you're pushing hard on a track, the tires will always be sliding ever so slightly and these steering inputs keep the car on-line and on the edge.

Hey,
I've been offline for over a week now... got to check out my new ride in next week's all-tarmac extravaganza... Targa Newfoundland. But in any case, it should be noted that:
a) I've only ever driven *two* complete laps of willow springs... EVER (three and a half if you count the out-lap/in-lap). That's right. two laps. THat is the second one (on video). Its a fast course... anyways, just so no one thinks that is "on the limit driving" or something.
b) I only drove that car, ever, for those two laps, plus the out lap and in lap... and never before.
You get the point... that car can easily be >4-5 seconds a lap quicker, IMHO, with no mods just driving. The reason for the mini-sawing was to see if the tires were still gripping as I was learning the line and the tires. We weren't even on the brakes yet ! Anyways, that is a fun car and I am sure it will be setting many track records !
And yes, that is an OMP helmet - you can get them custom ordered in any color you want as long as its one they produce there. There were a whole bunch made up for the team in custom colors. I've also seen black, clear coated carbon, etc. etc. The "duck bill' is not a production piece though.
