I used to have their hud boost gauge/turbo timer combo. It was really awesome and unique. They stopped making them though. It did look really cool...

You wont be able to see it. It'll make the display invisible.

So it looks like it would be possible to buy just the Defi-link control and the VSD concept and not have to get the dial displays? Is it possible to buy the sensors separately and connect it to the control unit and then have everything displayed only on the HUD?

I believe you can buy the sensors and sendors seperately from Defi IIRC. I know they are just about as expensive as buying the boost gauge itself so if you dont want gauges I guess thats the way to go

I just found this out. I recently bought the Oakley Polarized Gas Cans and I can't see the readout on the windshield. I guess I'll have to exert some energy and actually look down at the cluster to read my speed ;) In all seriousness, the DEFI HUD is pretty sweet. I had a JDM STI cluster(kmh) in my 02 WRX, so having the HUD was very functional. It also has a sequential shift light.

could you post some pix of the unit and how it is mounted? also a pic of the unit displaying stuff on the window.

I found this site that sells them (lots of info, too):

It looks like it may even end up costing more because of the price of the Concept unit, but it may be the way I go because I like the idea of it being stealthy without all the guages everywhere. Plus, I can build it one sensor at a time and not worry about getting all three (or more) at once.

Yeah... I used to have on on my 02. They were pretty freaking sweet.. too bad you can't get one that doesn't require a defilink anymore. I wish I had the foresight to take it out of my 02. :(
How much would it cost to get the defi-link and boost guage hud anyways? I think the one I had in my 02 was only like 180 bucks.

Mine arrived today and it was installed an hour later probably the easiest electrical thign i have ever hooked up. NOw just getting use to all the functions on it.

I have the basic unit which does not need the the DEFI link controller unit. It just reads MPH and has a sequential shift light. You can also opt to show RPMs instead of MPH. I'll try to get pics up tomorrow. The hook-up was real easy: hot, ground, and speed sensor wire...that's it! From what I hear, the basic unit is not available anymore. I got mine from RavSpec a while ago. I think it was $150 shipped...I can't remember though.

The pics from the Defi site makes it look like the entire plastic box shows up in the HUD. That looks kind of cheap. When it's actually installed, can you see the whole thing, or just the projected speed and shift lights?
| antny | 07-29-2006 11:39 AM |
I didnt place the film on the windshield and if you ever tried you know why. Anyways with it displaying on the windshield itself you do not see the control unit. I am not sure with the film on the window what it shows. but with mine its just the speed and shift LED's
| dawiyo | 07-29-2006 01:31 PM |
Here's a question. Heat. Since it sits right on the dash, do you guys cover it with anything? Wouldn't the heat affect it?
| step down | 07-29-2006 03:33 PM |
does it get annoying?
| antny | 07-29-2006 08:35 PM |
the instructions actually tell you to cover it when in direct sunlight. It hasnt annoyed me yet but you can always turn it off it does
| prelude/2.5rs | 07-31-2006 10:56 PM |
Well, I was finally able to take a crappy pic of the unit, in action, with my camera phone. The picture is shakey, so the display looks like it's hard to read, but it is indeed very clear. I had the lighting of the HUD set at the 2nd brightest. The brightest is too bright for night driving. I have mine mounted in the corner of the A-pillar and windshield, so the display isn't directly in my face at all times but still in the line of vision. The unit comes w/ a tint film to mount on the inside of the windshield so the unit has something to reflect off of. Like most people w/ the HUD, I did not install this tint and the reading is very define without it.

That looks cool. Is it easy to read in bright sunlight?
| prelude/2.5rs | 08-01-2006 11:32 AM |
Yeah...there's one more level of brightness above the one pictured above. Even in direct sunlight, you can read it. The tint strip provided would make it even clearer in sunlight.

This link has a little demo of what kind of information is displayed:

Unfortunately, even with the control unit it doesn't look like it will be able to show boost:

thats an awesome product. I would be interested if I could set up all my engine specs on the HUD....but it just seems kinda not worth the money for only MPH....
anyone know if you can still get the boost hud anywhere?

They have the more expensive version that has the read outs for all gagues except boost. The boost is no longer made according to defi's website.
