Does anyone make 04-05 hoods without scoops? part 1

Does anyone make 04-05 hoods without scoops?
Hey all. Just picked up my 05 Aspen White 2.5RS on Friday and I love it - except for one thing. The dealer added one of those damn non-functional hood scoops when they got it.

I have this thing with cars - if it doesn't make it go faster or handle better it shouldn't be on it.

That being said - I've ruled out trying to remove the scoop. From what I hear it's held on with sticky tape (classy) that has or will mess up the paint of I try to remove it. So on to the big question - does anyone make hoods (CF, aluminum, or steel) for the 04-05 body WITHOUT a scoop?

Short of buying a brand new hood from the dealer or spending years looking in junk yards I've just about given up. There are some great hoods out there but they all have scoops, which I have no use for.

Thanks for any info!

The stock hood for the 2.5 has no scoop, so get the dealer to replace it.

I asked and they said they wouldn't do it :( Gave me free rubber mats though...

I would contact SOA . . . I doubt that is an approved mod by them.

I don't see why not. It's listed in the accessories manual and dealers pre-add stuff all the time (mine had mudflaps too). It just sucks that this is pretty much my one dislike with the car.

If they just used sticky tape, it will come off without too much trouble. Look for the instructions on removing badges (debadging) that will help.

no kidding. . . a non-functiong stick-on hoodscoop is an option now? oh crap.

It was on the 05's yes, but not 06's.

EDIT: I take that back... I can't find a record of the hood scoop option anywhere.

Why do I have a fake hood scoop?
mcowger 10-18-2005 11:50 PM

Is it really fake? As in there's no hole in the hood under it? Or is it just a WRX hood transplant?
rally_on 10-19-2005 12:10 AM

the scoop doesnt go into the engine bay? so its just a stock RS hood, with a scoop. thats super wierd.

you could buy an OEM STi carbon fiber hood and put a reverse cowl on it, cool your engine bay. siebon style

You CAN get the scoop off with a heat gun or (blowdryer) if it's just doublesided tape. It wont screw up your paint. but it may make your thumb quite tender and painfull trying to roll the tape off the paint.

It will work tho. I could do it in about 30 minutes. Dental floss/heat is also known to work.

The key will be lifting the scoop up and off the hood then cleaning the residual crap off. Id try heatin from the underside of the hood and then tug (without yanking) on the corresponding scoop edge. Once under the tape you can work it all the way around and if your lucky the scoop will lift with the tape.

can you post a pic of that! I have one of those obnoxious truck style hood scoops in my mind...and that's something that I have to see. I think it's rediculous that they won't make it right for you.
ATX25RS 10-19-2005 03:22 AM

i.would.definately.let.soa.know.about.this.

sorry.broken.spacebar.
Crashsector 10-19-2005 06:23 AM

Yes, fully non-functional. I'll take pics later today when I get in from work.
IIdiceII 10-19-2005 06:32 AM

That sucks, I'd let soa know about this and whatever you do, please dont buy an sti hood and put the revers scoop on. Ugliest thing ever made !
Crashsector 10-19-2005 07:17 AM

Not planning on it. There's no reason for my car to have a functional scoop let alone this dumb non-functional one.
Crashsector 10-19-2005 03:35 PM

Apparently I can't post any pictures until I reach 10 posts... so...
Crashsector 10-19-2005 03:37 PM

I spoke with the dealer and the service manager over the phone. The guy that sold me the car was an idiot, so I spoke to the sales manager. She said that they traded for the car from another dealership and they were the ones that put the scoop on.

When I talked to the service guy at my dealership he said he's never seen anything like that and he has no idea how strong the adhesive was. Neither the service manager or sales manager would swap the hood out :(

What should I say to SOA? It is somewhat my fault since I agreed to buy the car with the scoop after all.
Crashsector 10-19-2005 03:41 PM

Well, now that THAT's overwith, on to the pics...

humm that doesnt even look like mine on my WRX is that a cheap knock off or something
tacomaprime 10-19-2005 03:53 PM

its just stuck on with double sided tape. Take it off, then take the residue off the same way you do badges.
ilnmcom 10-19-2005 04:02 PM

Yeah. Thats got to be removable. And you're right. It really needs to go.
vwown3d 10-19-2005 05:23 PM

weird, never seen this before
essteaeye 10-19-2005 05:40 PM

never heard of this EVER
rally_on 10-19-2005 05:46 PM

Thanks for the link dude! That's exactly what it was!

I don't know what kind of crap this other dealership was trying to pull. I'll go back to mine with this information and see what they say.
tacomaprime 10-19-2005 06:12 PM

I hope you didnt pay extra for that, and not even know it.
bahboy20 10-19-2005 06:19 PM

well
did you buy the car used or new? if its new you can probably contact SOA. If its used, i think you are S.O.L.

I would be a little concerned about removing it- maybe it was put on to cover up paint damage/dent/scratches (if it is a used car).

If its a new car and its just attached with tape, it should be removable as already discussed.

Can you post a picture of it from different angles and farther away if you have em?

dan
Crashsector 10-19-2005 08:10 PM

The car was new but looked like it had been sitting around for a while (accumlated dirt in sills, black drip streaks on plastic body parts).

More pics can be seen here: http://www.crashsector.net/car/
animes2k 10-19-2005 11:19 PM

If that thing's stuck on with tape and you get going fast enough, that thing might just fly off. At the very least, see if the dealer will remove it. That way if there's something messed up about the removal, it's on them. Though I'd be interested to see if there is some messed up paint or a dent or something under there.

It's a thought.
hlanderr 10-20-2005 02:46 AM

weird man..... but yeah im with ya in the manner that it shouldnt be there on the car if it has no purpose.... i would also say take it off and then wipe off the rest of the crap but the hood seems designed to flow with the hood scoop..... if you take that off the hood might look kinda weird....
animes2k 10-20-2005 03:33 AM
if you take that off the hood might look kinda weird....
That's the design of the 05 2.5RS hood.
