Eyelids - yay or nay?

I'm pretty sure I like them, as they're a cheap and temporary fix to the bug-eye syndrome.
Some pics of how I installed them -
That's the grill from www.ravspec.com btw.

I think they look good. Are the turnsignals still clearly visible through them?
| BeavisNuke | 12-16-2002 11:41 AM |
Yeah - there is still a slit that the vinyl does not cover where the turn signal can shine through.
The vinyl itself is also slightly transparent with a bright light behind it.

Since you asked my opinion, I'm gonna have to say that I'm not a big fan. IMHO, they're a bit ricey...but it's your car, and far be it from me to ridicule another man's ride. I personally prefer one of the DIY headlight mods to the eyelids.

Not to interrupt the thread, but can you define "ricey"? What makes any of the DIY headlight mods not "ricey"?
In my opinion they don't look too bad, but I think it depends on what other body parts you are using. I don't think they would work w/ my genome grill because of the side pieces.

if you are cheap and can't see yourself spending $500+ on headlight, eyelids rule! haha. i say try it out for yourself and see if you like them. they are only 10 bucks or so, and you can just peel them off if they suck. i like my eyelids, made them myself.

Nay to eyelids.
| WRXURV8 | 12-16-2002 01:42 PM |
They might look decent if they followed the lines of the car; i.e. from the top of the grill to the hood......but they don't. I say don't them. Then again, I have always loved the current WRX headlights.....so I guess my opinion is void:( .
| Rocket Wagon | 12-16-2002 02:26 PM |
Opinions aren't void. Opinions are opinions and should be appreciated unless not asked for. Don't listen to the "rice" bs either. "Rice" is totally subjective.
| Seraph | 12-16-2002 02:41 PM |
I agree with WRXURV8 on the whole lines issue.
The way that i see it, the design of the top portion of the headlights and the curve of the hood make it almost impossible to make an eyelid that blends the two together without making any really sharp corners. The reason why a lot of other cars tend to generate more aesthetically pleasing results is that they usually have squarer headlights than we do. I rarely see eyelids on cars with round headlights like GS's and..........yea there aren't alot of round headlights out there. I do see them on beetles however, and it works for them because they don't have completely transparent headlights like we do, and therefore do not have any preexisting lines to mess with.
But if you can find some way to do it, go for it. I'd do it myself but i think my DIY is mean enough with my liberal replica grille :D

I like eyelids, the liberal ones look a little too much but the regular ones look pretty sleek. not really ricey, but they get rid of the whole "is that a dodge neon!?" look.
| Seraph | 12-16-2002 02:45 PM |
but then i see neons from far away and think: hey is that a wrx with the jun eyelids?

I think the lids look fine. Personally, I'd rather have my car look a little more angry than happy like a Neon. I did my eyelids with black paint, so they are permanent on the headlight. I prepped the area with 0 grade sand paper and taped everything off. I followed the black paint with some clear coat. It came out really well... I'm happy with it for now. I will eventually buy some STi LHD lights, but this was the temporary fix for the stock lights which I hate.
| BeavisNuke | 12-17-2002 09:25 AM |
I actually have vinyl eyelids cut exactly like the JUN ones. The ones in the pictures are Speed-FX.com's first version. I guess I'll try putting on the JUN-cut ones.

I bought a set of JUN replica eyelids and they fit the car like crap, I havent even used them. :(

The ones I have a vinyl, just like my current ones, but they are cut like the JUN. You should look into those if you still want eyelids.

I had actually bought a set from speed-fx and was not happy with those either. I peeled them off about an hour after putting them on (looks like you did a better job on the install than I did)... after that I went to home depot and bought the necessary materials along with a can of black spraypaint and painted eyelids on there permanently. ;) It looks good for now until I decide to spring for new lights.

| BeavisNuke | 12-18-2002 11:53 AM |
I don't get what looks so "terrible" other than maybe the fact that the inner edge doesn't match up with the hood.
The color match is nearly perfect and they are installed perfectly with no bubbling of any sort.
