subie gal, love the helmet... very unique

Imprezard 01-11-2002 02:27 AM

cool! I was expecting a black one with yellow splashes like your car. But this one is cool!

Why does it say "no allergy"?
Fred Zaplitny 01-11-2002 06:25 AM

No allergies to medications probably.
WRXGuyInUSA 01-11-2002 06:34 AM

Do most people who race have that info on the back of their helmet??
TimStevens 01-11-2002 07:42 AM

Very cool... for $50 do they design custom helmet graphics for you? I didn't see anything on their site. I was thinking about getting my helmet painted or trying to do it myself, but this looks easier :)

lark6 01-11-2002 09:26 AM

Jamie, that's a sweet helmet and a good deal on the graphics!
I'm actually going shopping for my first helmet today and I'm definitely going to want my vitals on the back. As a novice auto-x/rally-x'er I'll feel better knowing they're there.

If your birthday is listed US style, then a belated happy birthday to you. If Euro style, then I'll wait 'til July to wish you a happy.

As for the rest of you, it's not polite to ask a woman her age. ;)

Ed
Subie Gal 01-11-2002 09:28 AM

the vitals that are on the back of the helmet...
not everyone has all of them,
but it's a good idea....
especially if you ARE allergic to something ;)

Bill at performance graffix said he would be more than happy to do some helmet graffix.... $50 for the design and stickers....
you have to apply them... and they have to be smaller in size...
a large sticker would be nearly impossible to apply without wrinkles/creases/bubbles.... TRUST ME :D

if you are interested, email me and i'll get the ball rolling for u!

thanks again for the kind words guys! :D

bbbradley 01-11-2002 09:35 AM

I was under the impression, and helmet manufacturer warning stickers back this up, that putting stickers on a helmet was a big no-no! The chemicals in the adhesives can weaken the plastic and render it brittle.

Skobie 01-11-2002 09:46 AM

"I think it means her last tetanus shot. vitals for EMT's"

If you are so out of it that you can't tell the EMTs when your last tetanus shot was, then you have bigger problems than any risk from getting an unnecessary tetanus shot!
Subie Gal 01-11-2002 09:50 AM

hmmmmmm
never heard that one before...
and i know many with stickered up helmets :D

here's a decent FAQ... why not drop them an email?

Jamie

...and I also see many cars with "unique aftermarket accessories" doesn't mean it is right.

I am not at home, so I can't look, but anyone who has a helmet nearby, look at the Snell sticker, I think the sticker warning is on there. I know my DH helmet for skiing had that, and the tag on my Bieffe said that before I cut it off. (The tag on the chin strap, not the SA rating sticker)

There are things called "water graphics" that can be used to decorate helmets without damaging the plastics. Perhaps some of the other decorated helmets use these?

jaybird 01-11-2002 10:21 AM

From my MX days I think bbbradley is right. That's how guys like Troy Lee made so much money airbrushing helmets. It looks cool anyways. I dig the road on top. The vitals are a great idea. It doesn't take all that much to be unconsious for a few minutes and be bleeding so much to need blood or require some kind of IV meds. That info can save much precious time that could end up saving our favorite girls life. In most types of racing that info is listed with your number when you register with the track. I guess in rallying it can be kinda hard to get to. Don't give up on the age thing Jamie. My mom was "29" for 15 years. You got the the looks to pull it off so keep em guessing.
GimmeScoobySnacks 01-11-2002 10:51 AM

my shoei helmet had about 3 "shoei" stickers on it when i bought it

Sid
Subie Gal 01-11-2002 11:19 AM

;) dont worry about the sticker thing...
i dont want this to become a big debate....

the only warning stickers on my helmet are re:
motorsports can be dangerous... etc... etc...

search the www for *helmet decals* there are 1000's of links...

if you're really concerned, email a manufacturer to be certain,
but i'm not going to worry about it...
everyone does their own thing!

have fun!

ColinL 01-11-2002 11:42 AM

i've heard the sticker bit before. not sure what to make of it since any warnings i've seen on helmets also advised not to paint the helmet, and obviously that is done quite a lot.

nice graphics. [img]http://www.i-club.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif[/img]
Future Subaru Driver1 01-11-2002 01:24 PM

hmmm

guys.. hate to break it to you..but the shell of that helmet is most assuredly NOT plastic!!!

most higher end helmets now are made from a Carbon Fibre Composite Shell.. and the cheaper ones are fiberglass....

but no debate.. just saying the facts..

in terms of the painting...it's an art....what they basically mean is to not paint it yourself...because unless special paints are used then it will ruin the shell....but it's all about preparation, using the right materials and knowing what you are doing...this is why Helmet Painting costs liks $600 for a good job..

BTW Jamie...nice graphics.. looks really sweet.. plain simple and effective...are you are correct.. if the stickers were any biggers it's a royal PITA to not get the vinyl bubbled or wrinked....it looks like your guy did a great job...

i'll try and post a pic of my helmet later on today when i get home...i'm kinda proud of it..
Subie Gal 01-11-2002 02:11 PM
Carbon Fibre Composite Shell
exactly what mine is made of....
now why didnt i think of that... *shrugs* hehehehe...

my sticker guy printed the cut outs...
i picked em and placed em... so THANKS :D

it's not too hard to do when you've been handling vinyl for 4 years now... ;)

Future Subaru Driver1 01-11-2002 03:43 PM

yeah

i been doing vinyl for around that time also.. mainly just applying it to helmet visors, sidepods, nose cones, and cars.. i been racing go karts for 5 years...and i gotta keep the sponsors happy
MGXsport 01-11-2002 04:23 PM

Looks great!

I have finally had some one convert my hand drawn to the computer (A big thank you to darkangelgrafix). Should I contact the sticker man through his site or through you? I need to find what format I need to give it to him in.

Very unique, very you! :D:cool:
Burnout 01-11-2002 08:39 PM

Im about to start getting into autocross and need a helmet, anybody now if there is one that is nude Carbon Fibre, I think that would look awsome.
Irvine Subaru 01-11-2002 08:53 PM

Peltor makes a helmet for Sparco that has CF sides to it. Pretty cool, but very expensive.

Like this but with carbon sides. I can't find the pic of the carbon one for some reason.

Its the one in the back.
Burnout 01-11-2002 09:56 PM

I tried Sparco.com and Peltor.com and couldnt find any thing. Anybody have some web sites I could check out with prices ect...
ColinL 01-11-2002 11:19 PM

they're eye-talian. even if you find a vendor, better be sure it's got the proper approvals for domestic use. SCCA's prorally regs explicitly allow european specs, but (for example) autocross does not, recognizing Snell only.

btw, good show jaybird.
Irvine Subaru 01-12-2002 12:12 AM

I can get them, but they are super expensive and will ONLY be sold for rally use. If you are truly interested PM me and I will give you a price.

Ryan
iceweazel 01-16-2002 11:36 PM

It was my past experience that the sparco (peltor intercom equiped) was less expensive than the similar Peltor (intercom equipped) but harder to find in the states.

Peltor-> http://www.p-sport.com/

Bought a new one last year. Love it.

Painted and stickered helmets rock.

Wow, Jamie, not only do we have more or less the same name, our b-days are only 2 days apart. Mine is the 9th. :)
