Formula One pick 6 team part 1

Formula One pick 6 team and Australian GP picks
Well, it is once again time to start picking the winning F-1 order. In the past few years, several of us have used the Motorsports.com Pick 6 competition, and some of us have finished pretty well (not me...) There are typcally between 3-4,000 players for every race. Come and see how well you do for a race, or overall for the season. I just received my email that motorsports.com is ready to go for 2005, so stop in and join. Be sure to enter Impreza.net when you pick a team.
Motorsport.com will once again be running Pick6 and PP competitions for the 2005 Formula One season.

As a competitor from previous seasons, you are already registered, but you can visit http://motorsport.com/compete/ to change your email address, to disable email messages, or to modify other account preferences and details

The first F1 race is only a week away - submit your pick now!
See y'all there!

The first race is always a hard one to pick...

1. MS
2. KR
3. RB
4. JPM
5. JB
6. FA
7. RS
8. MW
artkevin 02-28-2005 10:35 AM

I'm surprised to see 2 people picked Ralph in a Yota in the top 8.
BillT 02-28-2005 10:38 AM

I think Ralphie takes a bit of an unfair bashing on the boards, but I think he's a good driver who can occasionally pull off a brilliant drive and win a race. It will be interesting to see if Toyota will get more points this year with their new car and IMO improved driver line-up.
artkevin 02-28-2005 11:07 AM

Yeah, he's a good driver when he wants to be but he pouts more then JPM is even accused of. When things aren't going his way he just flounders around in mid pack like its a chore to drive for Williams. It's surprising to me to see a Toyota in the top 8 more then Ralph.
BillT 02-28-2005 11:44 AM

I guess part of it is just me wanting to believe that Toyota (and Sauber and Red Bull) can put together a good car with decent drivers and consistenly be in the points instead of it just being the red cars chased by Williams, McLaren, Renault, and Honda and the other teams hoping for mechanical or wreck above them so they can move into the points. I have high hopes for the season and can't wait to see it unfold.

I always saw JPM as more of whiner, but I think you are spot-on with Ralphie as a pouter
artkevin 02-28-2005 12:27 PM

I'm with you BillT. I like to see the smaller teams, even though Toyota is anything but small, have a go at podiums and maybe even wins. Nothing like Jordan back in the hay day fighting for the championship. I would have liked to have seen Jaguar pull it's head out its cat butt and get a win before it hit the toliet. Can't wait until Thursday night so I can go into my F1 comma of the 1st time since October.
SolbergWRCfan 02-28-2005 01:17 PM

Ralf is a better driver than people give him credit for. The JPM fanbois are everywhere however, which is annoying as he is one of the biggest pricks in the paddock. It will be nice to see whether he pans out against Kimi.

I thought I was pretty good at picking F1 winners last year...but got owned by many of ya. Still fun and thanks for the reminder ArtGecko!!!

ArtGecko...make sure to change the title to this thread later so people know we are picking for the Aussie GP too. (not just F1 pick 6 team)

M.Schumacher;-once again the champ will pull thru)
R.Barrichello;-best #2 man around and will keep Shuy on his toes
K.Raikkonen;-showing some fastness but willl need more effort vs. Ferrari
J.Button;- BAR still trying to figure which team this guy is on...
T.Sato;-dark horse winner, will have great race or engine blows...again..
J.Montoya;- new team, getting speed up but with some probs
F.Alonso;-fast but traffic keeps him frustrated in narrow GP
M.Webber- Comes out fast for fans but is nothing vs. Ferrari again..
grandpa rex 02-28-2005 03:48 PM

I didn't mean to start the Australia GP thread. I was just pointing out that it is that time again. Guess I'll change the title (and for those who don't know, the name of the competition came from, what, five years back and before, when only the top six finishers got points. Now it is eight, but the site didn't change the name.)

[Edit] I changed the title of the first post, but it didn't change the thread title. Moderator? Howzabout some help.

I've been so anxious to see how this year starts out! I was so ready to watch racing, that I actually sat down Sunday, turned on Fox, and slept through the California 500 NASCAR race. I'm one sorry SOB to stoop that low... :D

How were those doughnuts, grandpa rex? ;)

Meeps: You should get an email confirming your picks, as well as your registration. If that's what you got, nevermind. It usually takes a while to show up on the site. Sometimes we don't get scores until Tuesday, but usually on Monday.

Ummm, picks. I don't even know where to start. (yes I do...)

M. Schumacher
F. Alonso
R. Barrichello
J. Montoya
G. Fisichella
K. Raikkonen

I'm getting that problem too :(
Ferg 02-28-2005 10:40 PM

I just checked mine again and they're now showing up. I did it yesterday so it may jsut take a day to update. :)
grandpa rex 03-01-2005 07:19 AM

Hey guys
I think many people are over looking Jacques Villeneuve. People expected too much from him at the end of last year. Being that he had not raced for 1 year. Now with a winter of testing look for him to be well into the points. Sauber has gone with new tires. Can't wait until sat. I do not see anyone over taking Ferrari though.
John

Jaxx 03-03-2005 12:50 PM

lets see i pick

1 red car
2 blue car
3 red car
4 black car
5 blue car
6 black car
erich_sc 03-03-2005 06:38 PM

1 Kimi
2 Michael
3 Jenson
4 Juan
5 Rubens
6 Giancarlo
7 Takuma
8 Narain (Why not, I'll bet I'm one of the only people to pick him in the points :) )

That's my official pick 6, but I forgot about Webber, he'll be in there for sure. At least I hope he does well.
SolbergWRCfan 03-04-2005 06:37 PM
Juan "Chilli Dog" Montoya will win!!!!!
How can you make this claim? He chews up tires like no one else. I think smoothness will prevail this year. Juan is an overrated hothead.

Jon
Dussander 03-05-2005 12:42 PM
He chews up tires like no one else.
Please, someone, back up this claim? Did Juan pit more often last year then everyone else? No. Having the ability to push a car to and over the limit does not mean you can not also drive smooth. All the drivers have had plenty of experience with tire conservation in kart endurance races.
Juan is an overrated hothead.
I think Ron Dennis knows a little bit more about picking drivers then you do.
Ferg 03-05-2005 05:29 PM

Montoya isn't hard on tires at all...one of his greatest skills as a driver is being able to be fast on cold tires while being able to conserve them at the same time.

Think back to his Indy 500 win in 2000, he ran faster and longer on the same set of tires than anyone else, consistantly. He did the same thing in Champ Cars in 1999. When you compared his tires to everyone else's (I managed to do just that in Portland in '99 thanks to CART's wonderful pit access) he had noticably less wear than other drivers. Keep in mind this was in a formula with 900bhp and no traction control.
jetfan2207 03-05-2005 05:38 PM
Juan is an overrated hothead.

Jon
I agree! I love McLaren, but I don't think I car root for Montoya. Why would they sign him? Montoya and Kimmi are opposite in terms of personality.

1) Button
2) M. Shumacher
3) Kimmi
4) Webber
5) Rubens
6) Montoya
Ferg 03-06-2005 12:03 PM

So how long does it take for them to update the results after a race?
ArtGecko 03-06-2005 03:42 PM

You'll get an email tonight or tomorrow telling how you did against the other 3700 or so people that entered this week. It can be a humbling or thrilling message. After that, you can usually check the group status, both per race, and overall on the web site. Sometimes it is slower...
gargleblaster 03-06-2005 10:14 PM

Results are up now in case you haven't checked your mail. I'm in a 3-way tie for 3rd! Well, for our group anyway...
Ferg 03-06-2005 10:24 PM

Indeed :)
ArtGecko 03-06-2005 11:46 PM

Well, I imagine this is the last time you'll see me at the top of the standings! At least Alex and Ferg had Fisi in the top three. I was just lucky by being close on more. Not much skill in this one, after that weird qualifying.

Oh Yeah, the old man's on the podium again!
BillT 03-07-2005 09:15 AM

The first race is always the hardest and the weird conditions during qualifying just compounded things. At least we now have a much better idea of what kind of pace the teams have so our guesses can get a little better. I think Ferrari will storm back in Malaysia.
ArtGecko 03-07-2005 08:06 PM

Does that mean we get 5 bottles of champagne? And 5 boxes of Krispy Kremes?
ArtGecko 03-08-2005 06:32 PM

Mmmmm...donuts. :D

might as well. I don't get the top step often. Or we can share 3 dozen. They're probably a bit stale by now, anyway.
