Sedan Trunk Liner/Container part 1

bfarm 10-19-2005 01:03 PM

Sedan Trunk Liner/Container
I am looking for some type of trunk container/liner for my 05 STi. I would like it to be heavy duty, have a significant lip all the way around the edge to contain possibly liquid spills, and be cut to fit the sedan trunk.

Anyone had any success in finding something like this?

Thanks,
BFarm

We have one in our 05 Forester and I think they have them for the WRX Wagon but I haven't seen one for the sedan. I asume the trunk layout is different.
eric94501 10-19-2005 02:09 PM

You have to order the Euro WRX trunk liner. I seem it on some guys WRX and he got it for the same reason.

Is this an EDM OEM part eric? Do you know if it's actually a rubber, all seasonish type liner? Or just a tougher carpet liner?
WRX4me 10-19-2005 05:03 PM

hmmm...didn't even think to check the EDM trunk liners. I've talked to subiegal about this and the only thing for the US is the cargo liner for the wagon, and that new thicker carpet one for the sedans.

I've also tried to source out a heavy duty lipped liner but I haven't had any luck. I've contacted http://www.weathertech.com/ and they say they have no plans on designing one for the sedan. The only thing they offer is the Universal Rubber Cargo Mat that can be cut to fit.
bfarm 10-19-2005 05:49 PM

I just did the same thing WRX4me. I also looked at some designs by Husky:
http://www.autoanything.com/generic_pages/product_image.aspx?p_id=1467&g_id=22
Notice the tall lip.
they look awesome - but no trunk patterns for us.
Subie Gal 10-19-2005 09:26 PM

you could try the wagon rear cargo bin.

not the mat. the bin.

it would be a decent fit, again not 100% perfect

but it's deep. plastic - with posable, retractable walls and nets.

like this one in the forester:

little walls in there can be put up as shown, or fold flat
thing is deep, could easily contain spills...

well.. it's an idea anyway :D

Interesting Subie Gal - I definitely will look into that. It looks perfect. Anyone out there with this forester bin that wants to take a few measurements?...
MidnightBlackPearl 10-20-2005 12:17 AM

I don't know if they all came with them, but I pulled mine out of my '96 Impreza LX after it got totalled. I figured the insurance company would never miss a nice rubber mat in the trunk anyway... I have an '02 RS right now, and it fits quite nicely, doesn't completely fill the trunk or anything, but covers the majority of it. And it's got the lip that you were looking for too.

Awesome, thanks Subie Gal.
SubaruGenuineParts 10-20-2005 11:46 AM

Made for the Wagons....

Great thanks. Could you maybe take a couple rough measurements if you have this part handy Jamie? LxWxH should be enough just to get a feel for how well it would fit.

Thanks,
Brian

okay so this tray is shaped like your trunk "mat" liner...

top narrow part faces FRONT of car
topmost, narrow point = 37" wide

it is 35" "tall"

^^^^^widest point is apprix 51.5"

hope this makes sense & helps.
shot some photos but cant post them til i get home :D

eric94501 10-20-2005 12:32 PM

The one I saw is made for WRX sedan and it's like the wagon liner. Let me find out from him.
SubaruGenuineParts 10-20-2005 12:35 PM

wrx sedan cargo tray liner is only available in the UK/Europe

it's not available here state-side.

some have used the Wagon liner in the sedan.
that's what we're working on here :)

Jamie,

If the EDM part really is cut to fit the Sedan trunk, could importing it be a possibility? It seems like there could be a market for it considering there is no other custom fit piece available right now.

Brian
Subie Gal 10-21-2005 02:10 PM

I wont import them. Havent been able to justify the cost.

they are an oversize item.

cost + freight + customs duties = way over $100 per mat

nobody is realistically going to want to pay that....

and i'll get you that photo tonight
last night = didnt go as planned :D

subywrx 10-21-2005 05:02 PM

They had a gb on this item a year ago, they were from euro subaru parts.
Jonnyfilmboy 10-21-2005 07:52 PM

I just bought the EDM roof rack from the UK and they just shipped it to me. Didn't need an importer. Maybe try Cheams Subaru in the UK. They were great to work with. Fast 5 day shipping on the rack. Shipping on that item would kill though. I bet it would be expensive from the UK.
Oski 10-24-2005 01:17 PM

I'm interested in getting one too...although even the WRX sedan one wouldn't fit perfectly in my '06 STi because of the intercooler water spray tank. But I'd be willing to just bend it up at that point.

It seems like there's at least some interest in this. Would anyone be interested in setting up a group buy or at least getting a price quote on a group buy? With winter coming up, I'm sure more people would jump in on it. I guess the main problem is the oversized shipping.

If worse comes to worse, I guess I'll pick up some plastic bins from Target and apply some velcro to the bottom. That should hold them in the trunk and keep any liquid from spilling. I'm mainly concerned for when I need a place to put my snowboard boots and gear.

Here is a link to the WRX sedan liner on japanparts.com:
http://japanparts.com/db/partslist.php?dealer=&car=&middlesmall=&maker=&volkey=001-013-003

Looks like $100 before shipping. I dunno what shipping will run because their webform quotation sucks and I couldn't pick my State and City...
subywrx 11-14-2005 01:40 AM

Here's another one from the UK. http://www.cheammotors.co.uk/content.php?categoryId=42&page=2
bfarm 11-14-2005 01:11 PM

Cool thanks for the link. Interesting to note how different the japanparts.com and cheammotors.co.uk parts look (click image for full size):

Wow those are nice! Group buy pretty pretty pretty plz! :)
bfarm 11-14-2005 02:45 PM

I'd love to know how well either of those fit in an STi trunk with the water spray tank etc.

Anyone have either in an STi?
subywrx 11-15-2005 01:03 PM

I don't think they will fit on the STi with water spray tank, you would have to cut that edge off.
sovereign 02-26-2006 05:18 PM

I really want to get one of these to keep my wet wetsuit from dripping into the carpet....any news on a US Importer??
WRXdonkey 04-22-2006 08:34 PM

any solutions here? Just wondering what you guys decided to go with on this -- if any of you have finally made a decision, and how did it work out with your STis???
AKESREX 04-29-2006 12:41 AM

Out of total desperation, I finally bit the bullet and bought the trunk
tray for my '02 WRX sedan from japanparts.com
Awesome fit, raised lip all the way around the perimeter.
Also an awesome pricetag- was about $170 when all was said and done.
About $100 for the part and the rest for shipping. Only took a week to
get here from Japan & arrived in a big box via US Mail.

A Pic would be awesome if you have any AKESREX.

Under "posting rules" it says I can't post attachments, otherwise I would.
I've only posted about 7 times on this forum- that's probably why.
At any rate, the trunk tray I've got is the one on the left in your post on

I've tried searching for the rubber trunk liner for my '06 wrx sedan. I gave japanparts.com and cheammotors.co.uk a lookover but couldn't find it listed there for the 06. Is this product even being made for the new model yet?
Frestall 01-25-2007 07:28 PM

bumpage... I am trying to find a rubber liner as well for my 06, anyone come up with anything? I can't believe these don't have a big enough demand to be readily available.
khail19 01-25-2007 08:59 PM

Is the 06 trunk any different? I think it's the same 02 and up.

PM me and I'll quote you to there; *no problem* + I'll give you a discount

EMS shipping will take 10-15 days and cost US$39.00 to anywhere in North America

We'll run a Group Buy if there's enough interest
Sold *dozens* of these to Forrester and Legacy owners ( different part number; similar item ) with nothing but positive comments....

Picked up the wagon matt a couple months ago. A little extra space in the back but overall fits well. I can lug my snow shovel or car wash bucket around without soaking my carpet which was my main concern.
