Fun at the Petersburg Pro part 1

Opie 05-25-2002 08:02 PM

Petersburg ProSolo update!

Heats 1 & 2 were completed today at the Petersburg Pro Solo. There are over 19 Subaru's entered in several different classes including: STS, STX, SM, GS & DS.

I'm competeing in STS so here are the results after the 1st heat as I remember them:
1st - Eric Kremelmeyer '99 RS
2nd - Eric Carmen '99 RS
7th - Will Conklin '00 RS
8th - Richard West '99 RS
10th - Kelly Nelson '98 RS
14th - Shane Warren '99 RS

After the 2nd Heat:
1st - Eric Kremelmeyer '99 RS
2nd - Richard West '99 RS
4th - Eric Carmen '99 RS
10th - Will Conklin '00 RS
11th - Kelly Nelson '98 RS
15th - Shane Warren '99 RS

Forgive me if I'm a little off on some of these, hopefully some of the other class guys will post their results soon!
Richard A. 05-25-2002 08:56 PM

STS times are 2 seconds faster than STX! One second faster than D/S if I remember. 1.5 slower than C/S and 1.0 behind E/S. Eric K. has me by .170 and G. Warren Hawn (sp) is another .9 back. Eric's car is now out with a broken second gear.

Fun at the Petersburg Pro

Nice seeing everyone again. It was a good scooby turnout and I *think* everyone had fun. Being my first Pro I was nervous and it showed with me coning away 3 tenths on the left and 4 tenths on the right and getting 3rd in DS by only 0.22 secs. Oh well. Sheit happens. I had the win EASY, but just couldnt keep the a$$ end of the car out of the cones during the class runs.

All you hosers left before the Super Challenge and missed all the fun! Me and Shawn Whipple (my codriver, 1st in DS) whooped some BUTT in the challenge. I came away with 3rd, and top subaru. :D Shawn came in 4th right behind me. Larry Fine took 3rd subaru, and 2nd in DS.

Soooo..

DS
1 - Shawn Whipple (my codriver)
2 - Larry Fine (0.2 back)
3 - Tom Hoppe (me, 0.06 back)

STS
1 - Richard West
2 - Erik Kremelmyer (sp?) who busted his 2nd gear on Saturday

STX
1 - Kiko Sikes
2 - Keith, KC, who shoulda got 1st dammit!

Thats all I remember, so sorry if I didnt mention your name!

This was my first event on Hoosiers and I have to say that they rock. I was about half a second ahead of Larry Fine on both courses only to cone the advantage away. They have quite a bit more overall grip, but the real difference is in turn in. I'm sure the 40 series tires had something to do with that as well though. The down side is that the outside edges on all 4 tires show a little cord on them after 30 short 30 second autox runs. I should be able to get them flipped by PM Racing this week and then run them at Rome next weekend. They will be shot after that though. At $176 a pop, I guess if you wanna play you gotta pay :)

See some of you next week!!

Actually STS was Subaru 1, 2, and 3.

I finished 3rd, but I broke 2nd gear in the Subaru in my second run o fmy afternoon runs on Saturday. Eric K and I had to switch cars and I ended up in a Civic and Eric was in a Subaru (Thanks again Will). I was never able to improve on my times since I ost most of my Sat. afternoon runs an the civic I ran on Sunday being modestly prepared was not going to catch my previous runs. So I had to stand on my first runs in the Subaru.

I was disappointed to have this happen, but that is racing. I wold like the thanks all the people that helped Eric and I to get the car towed back to his house and those that stepped up and let us run their cars. I appreciate it very much.

Well guys I made it home in just under 12 hours! From Petersburg at 2pm to my driveway at 1:30am (789 miles on the trip odo)! Thats an average speed of 68.6mph  we only made 3 quick stops for food, gas & bathroom breaks. Had no problems with the trailer and we were getting between 25 & 28 mpg...not to shabby!

I improved my standings to 9th overall in STS thanks to some advice from both Eric K. & Eric C. There's no more blaming my times on the car since Eric K. stepped in it for Sunday's runs and pulled several mid 27-sec runs! I guess I just need to drive better! :D

Was a blast to see everyone, thanks to Mr. Priebe and SOA for everything they provided at the Pro, dinner on Friday was great and the "goodies" are greatly appriciated.

How did pleaides luxo-barge do in SM?
How did SUV-ETR & RSChic place in GS?

Eric C. - My bad, I forgot you were codriving with Eric K. as they had you down for a Honduh as your car in the results :)
Crosser 05-27-2002 03:28 PM

Not a problem...I had the honor of being in the car when 2nd gear went. Not fun.

They actually had me down for Honda Contingency as well...hahaha. Howard is presenting the trophies for STS gets to me and says, "$$$ from Honda...Wait that isn't right, is it?" I told them they could give me the Honda $$$ if they wanted, but the fast times were in the Subaru...hahaha.

Hey Will, you did great...it is all a matter of volume. You have the tools, and capability. You are just running at about 6 you need to turn it up to 10. Hehehe.

Ralph, thanks for all the goodies and food. Eric and I appreciate all the support you continue to give us. It is people like you that make this so fun.

z3coupe 05-27-2002 03:48 PM

Hey KC, I see in the results that you beat Jean. Hmmm, . . . . . maybe you had better run the Evolution school now, and I'll be your padewan :)

By the way, STS will be a bit faster than STX for a bit yet. But as the rules for STX evolve, that too might change. At the moment I am testing some exhaust parts from PDE. I have his catless up-pipe which works great, and am now testing his cat-less (bell mouth) downpipe which is fantastic! So at the moment I am cat-less. I ran it as a test down in SD Saturday, and with the stock airbox still on, I was pretty happy staying in 2nd gear through the turns. Not perfect like a fully N/A car, but much better getting back on it fast and more powerful. And when later to go back home I put the MRT POD filter back on, WOW! Even better! Next, we will be placing a free flow cat on the car in different spots to see the effects, and where on the rpm range it effects. For once I have someone interested in US AutoX'ers and what we need - lowend!
KC 05-27-2002 07:10 PM

Woulda coulda shoulda. :D

For my 1st pro, I can't say I did too bad, but I know I should have been faster. Hitting that cone on my last run is what cost me the win in STX, (here's where my therapy is helping...) and that's OK.

Everyone did fantastic! This was really the 1st event that I've been to where I've seen subies taking the top spots everywhere. Congrats to all the subie drivers!!! It's great to see how far I need to go to beat STS... doh... that's quite a bit. :)

This was my most exciting moment for the weekend:
During the second round of the open challenge, I was up against one of them HS mini's. They were doing very well. On my 1st run on the right, on the exit, I hit the last damn cone near at the end. DOH! I was now down 1.6 seconds. Got too overzealous and got the fabled power on understeer. I would have been in the lead by .4 if I had just kept my wits. Live and learn.

Switched over to the left, and took off like a bat outta hell when the light turned. Made my run, clean, but still lost by only .4!! I got back and the guy in the mini I went up against recapped: "I was sitting at the line and figured I'd take it easy on the launch, then I see you already taking the turn by the time I was going!" He said he figured he'd take it easy since he though he had it. He said next time, he won't be that forgiving against anyone. :D

I had a great time meeting you all and hope to see ya at the tour this weekend.
kelley nelson 05-27-2002 07:19 PM

It was a great event in a lot of ways. Wish I could have driven a little better, but that's another story :)

I snapped a bunch of pics on Sunday, eventually I'll post a lot of them, but here's one for today:

Nice pic there :)

If you snapped any of my car in action or just sitting there, could you email me the full size ones?

DS 5 and DS 105, the blue WRX with the spectrasite.com on the sideskirts.

I had my camera this weekend, but got so busy with the whole event I never got a chance to snap more then 3 or 4 pics.

Thanks

SUV-ETR 05-28-2002 01:54 PM

Cool panarama of the track!

We had a good time meeting everyone. Sorry I didn't get to say good by to everyone. We were trying to head out with Opie...

10th and 12th place definitely won't rank as our top finishes ever, but GS was a STACKED field! LOTS of hot-shoe drivers...easily twice as many as any race I've ever been to before. After Saturday, 1st-8th were less than 1sec apart, combined time! I would have been totally happy with 9th or 10th place considering the field if I had only been a little closer to the 8th place times. Alas, my Sunday runs weren't very good and I didn't improve my times. Oh well! :(

Katie has been agonizing all day over the Ladies classes! She doesn't really want to run Ladies, but the thought of winning money is starting to get to her. :). She coned away her best run but that would have been enough to place 4th in L1, or maybe even 3rd ahead of Kim Fine! And then the woman who did place 4th in L1 (normally a GSL driver) went on to win the Challenge! The agony!

We had a great weekend hanging out with everyone. Driving around in the Luxo-barge looking for an open restraunt on Saturday night definitely was a good time. See you all again soon!

I was there, #55 STX in the blue WRX with gold subzeros.

It was my first ProSolo and had an absolute blast, special thanks to Karen (CamaroFS34) for "showing me the ropes"
Of course I came in last in STX (by only 13 thousandths though) but what do you expect from newbie!
It was nice meeting the STX guys Keith (KC), Sacha and Kiko, didnt really get a chance to meet you DS,GS or STS guys though. (and who was the SM Legacy? anyone here? that thing was cool looking)

Tom,
I got pics of every subaru I think, including a couple of yours. I filled up a 128meg card and a 16meg card (and still somehow found time to compete), I am cropping and resizing now, and should have the pics up in the next couple days.

BTW, Karen, never gotta chance to complement you on the nice shirt on Saturday
Originally posted by trhoppe BTW, Karen, never gotta chance to complement you on the nice shirt on Saturday
;) Yeah, well, I had to buy a bunch of new clothes Saturday night because virtually everything I brought down with me got messed up when I left my suitcase in my car at work on Friday and I guess it got too hot for some of the toiletry-type stuff. :(

I figured the "Lucky Charms" shirt would partially make up for the lack of the Budweiser dress too. :)

My tire gauge melted yesterday as well . It was one of those radio shack digital ones and the display is toast now.

I was actually going to say something about your shirt, but was afraid of getting slapped, heheeee :D

Are you going to Rome next weekend? I didnt see your name on the entry list as of today.

You've just got to look out for the Sentra drivers..... especially ones that like Guinness and drive Lightnings.... ;)
Are you going to Rome next weekend? I didnt see your name on the entry list as of today.
No, I didn't sign up for it because I thought I would be attending the 12 hour race at Summit Point. Turns out I'll be going to Virginia Beach instead.

I'll be at the Oscoda, Wendover and Peru Pros. Haven't decided on the Peru Tour.... I've already done one Tour (Houston, ran BSP in an AS Corvette), so I've fulfilled the requirement for Nationals already. I like ProSolos better than Tours anyway.

Karen
trhoppe 05-28-2002 10:07 PM

hehehee, figured that much :)

I like the Pros better now as well. I just can't get the time off to go to michigan and wendover is too damn far.

I'll be at peru and the finale though.

Have fun in VA Beach!!! :alien:

I quickly worked up the overall event PAX. I snagged the multipliers from an unfamiliar page, so let me know if I made any glaring errors.

I also temporarily have omitted the ladies classes because I'd have to back the PAX factor back out to get the raw times.

http://www.awdriven.net/petersburg-2002/petersburg-2002-all-noladies.htm

Kelley,

Acutally, those are the wrong PAX numbers. There are different Pax numbers for Pro Solo than Solo 2. If you go into the scca page, and go to Pro Solo listing. The Pro Solo Pax numbers are listed in the Supplemental rules. Here is the site http://www.scca.org/amateur/solo2/prosolo/2002/2002ProSoloSeriesSupps.pdf

kelley nelson 05-29-2002 02:55 PM

Thanks Eric,

I slapped the new multipliers into the spreadsheet. I couldn't find a Formula Junior factor so I used the F125 multiplier.

(Also still missing L1 and L2 results - maybe after I finally post the pics I took)

Man, I can SCCA changing our index in STS. This is the paxed times from the St Louis Divisional/ Gateway to Nationals at Gateway International Raceway

This was also last weekend.

Pat Lipsinic

Crosser 05-30-2002 03:54 PM

The index will probably not be changed that much. On the National Solo II level that they are based on, the PAX times are pretty close right now. Local, and even divisional events don't always reflect that. I still think they are a little low, but I do not think they are too far off.
