Gauge Color Match

Ok, so I've got my STi cluster, now I need some gauges to go with it. Which gauges match the STi cluster the best? I searched, but I never really found a good answer. TIA.
| bmms8 | 03-27-2007 12:57 AM |
look into the prosport amber ones. prosportgauges.com they are very affordable and most users love them, though some have caused problems. there are a couple of threads under this topic dedicated to them also. goodluck.
i have the blue 52 mm boost in my car and i love it. its just off by 1 psi all the time.

I'm a fan of the Omori gauges. I got a full color boost gauge to match the wierd sea/puke/forest green on my 05.

Those Prosports look like they could be a good match, but the price makes me skeptical. $55 for an electrical boost gauge doesn't seem right.
The Omori gauges are worth looking at. Anyone know if the red custom backlit goes with the STi cluster's red lighting?
Anyone have the Greddy or Blitz gauges, or know of any other good matches?

Defi Ambers are an excellent match, as I believe Defi makes the stock cluster. Maddad Clarity V2 (I think) are also a close match.

ive been looking for mathcing gauges for my sti as well.. cheaper than the defi bfs.. i found these new greddy v2 52mm electric gauges. kinda hard to find.. and no one seems to have them installed in an sti yet. but i found some good deals.. like $145 each for boost and egt.. they sweep on the opening and are black/amber.. no cu required.. i might give them a try and post up some pix when i get them installed.
| bmms8 | 03-27-2007 06:06 PM |
there is no need for any gauge to be expensive for it to work though. that is my only argument. prosport has great customer service and a warranty so if anything goes wrong they will replace your product for you. you can find your own reviews on here, but just because they are cheap does not mean they dont work, goodluck!

Ok, so this is what I gather so far:
Prosport Premium - Awesome price, excellent match to STi cluster, some users have reported problems with faulty sensors, excellent customer service, wondering if they stay red all the time?
Omori Meter - Stock looking, good price, good color match, custom LED only available in Metric Units, also wondering if these stay red all the time?
Defi Bf Amber - Near perfect match, excellent quality, $$$$$$$$$$$$, 60 mm only.
Greddy V2 - Look like they would be a good match, decent prices, just wondering about that white halo around the needle housing.
Anything else I'm missing?

about the greddy v2.. i saw the white halo too.. but im thinking there might be a way to get rid of that.. but ethier way.. its not too bad looking... for me it's between those prosports and these v2s

just took a look at the prosports.. for one they are out of stock of the onles i want.. and two.. i dont really like the way they look. im getting the greddys

as in the leds burning out, or power going to them at all times and illuminating the gauge?
afaik, leds last a loooooooong time and you splice the wires into an aux lighting source, so when you turn your lights on, the gauge comes on.

^^^^^^^^Ya, I meant the gauges staying red while on. I'm definately not worried about the led's burning out.
AlxSTi, let me know how the Greddy gauges turn out.
Does anyone have any pics of the MadDad Clarity V2 Ti gauges next to the STi cluster during the day AND night? If so, please post!

check out this thread....there was a pic of an STI cluster with prosports and it was sooo clean. With the ignition off, the rings around the prosport was identical to the STI cluster. looked very good.

I have seen the Defi Bfs in several cars and they are awesome. They are both cost expensive and visually look expensive. If you can justify the expense I would do it I would have but I already have the defi blue racers, visually you wont be let down.
| ekw | 03-29-2007 07:50 AM |
have you looked at the MadDad v2's ?

^^^^^^^^^ Yes, I'm definately considering those. They look damn near perfecy during the day, but I still haven't really seen a picture of them at night. The STi cluster goes from red to amber when the headlights go on, so I want to see if the Clarity's still match when that happens.
| ekw | 03-29-2007 12:19 PM |
can you adjust the brightness on the cluster?
it has 5 settings, but it might not be hooked up if you are swapped in.
on my (stock) 04 STi, the brightness is on the turn siganl / headlight stalk.
the v1 Mad Dad gauges were a bit on the red side.
the v2 are said to be a bit on the amber side.
I think it was part of the changes they made to make them more visible during the day, which could get tricky w/ v1's in bright sun w/ the smoked lenses.
if this is correct, then it might play into your hand.
I am upgrading from v1 to v2 soon, but will not have them delivered until next week, and then installed for a bit.
all my v1 pics are on my home PC and daytime.
I could get you pics of the v2's but it will likely be weeks.
maybe you could comb the 'show your gauge set up' thread to see if there are some in there?
it is almost impossible to get two colors to match side by side if they are not from the same exact source.
you'll have to decide what 'close enough' is for you.
the MadDad v2 numbers (font) look very good.

I didnt know that the sti gauge cluster changes color when the lights are on. I guess I have only seen them at night.
| ekw | 03-29-2007 12:22 PM |
the brightness goes down a bit (if you are not on the max setting) so it does not create glare in the dark.
I had not noticed it as a color shift, more as a brightness change,
but color perception is very personal.

EKW- thanks for the awesome response. At the moment I am completely broke, so it will be a while before I order anything, I just like to look around. When you get the V2s in your car, please post some pics. Right now, its between the V2s, the Prosports, and the Defis.
Omori Meter - Stock looking, good price, good color match, custom LED only available in Metric Units, also wondering if these stay red all the time?
....talk to Thaison from J-Spec (Nasioc vendor) if you are considering the Omori gauges. He has been a great help to me in the past and can verify if those gauges are only available in metric units. The picture piekarski17 included in his post from their site shows the "STi color" turbo gauge in PSI/InHg (Imperial measurement).

you're welcome.
not sure how dramatically your finances will change, but the MadDad 3 gauge bundle will run you around $300.
three gauges from Defi and the controller is going to put you north of $900.
are the Defi's 'better' ?
yeah, I'd hope so.
are they 'that much better' ?
not to me. but for some folks yes.
for me, that $600 would be better spent on EM and a downpipe.
or Kartboy short shifter w/ TiC bushings . . .
but enough of the promos.
once I get the v2's in, I will post my set up in the big gauge thread.

Prosport is quite a good colour match. And the boost gauge is really accurate.

funny though ppl see my cluster and ask me if it can be both manual and automatic. but yes the prosports dont match perfect but is closer than any other non DEFI BF gauges i've owned. if u want true matching gauges u need the BFs...here is a pic:

^^^^^^^Awesome! Thats an excellent color match. I figure color will be the most important thing to match, since I will be mounting the gauges in the clock area. The font isn't as vital like it would be if the gauges were side by side with the cluster.
