Guaging Interest in Widebody kits

Widebody kits are in the future of the wrx.

What does everyone want? (Width, style, rally, gt, etc...)

Tell me what you want to see. Anything can be built.

Add your comments and opinions.

I would be interested in a widebody kit. I would want to see the following things:
1. A full matching set, involving front and rear bumpers, fenders, something for the rear fenders (not sure how you would manage that) and side skirts.
2. I would like the design to well-sculpted, not something that adds a bunch of sharp edges to the car (like the Aqua kit, for example).
3. A quality choice of materials, including a potential cf option for those racing.
4. Accomodations made for a FMIC, without turning the front bumper into a snow plow.
5. I would not be interested in a duplicate of the WRC (not exactly). I would prefer to see something more JDM in bumper design.
6. Vents should be functional. There is nothing I hate more than a bunch of fake vents. There should also be room to accomodate ducting so they can be used :)

This is going to be hard, I look forward to what you come up with :)

it would be nice to have wide fenders that will still blend into the stock bumper. that way, a wider sized bumper will not be needed
tifosi77 03-09-2002 01:32 AM

a full WRC kit anything less is not good enough.
push2 03-09-2002 10:35 PM

Hmmm... Wide body wagon?...  Wide and smooth(think out of the box) makes people stare:eek:

I completely agree here.
samowrx 03-10-2002 01:46 PM

the first WRC wagon kit. that does sound good. difficult but good.
travmn 03-10-2002 02:33 PM

i'd LOVE to see a widebody solution come out for the wagon, mainly due to interest in having more wheel clearence + i think the wagon stock looks far too slender... i think the wagon would benefit greatly from a wide body kit....

as for how it should look, i think it should be aggressive and attention-getting, however, not extreme...
jasona 03-12-2002 09:16 PM

id be VERY interested in a wagon widebody. maybe 1-2 inches wider on each side, front and rear, and a smooth flow to it. id like it to retain the stock front bumper, so as to still leave choices in what type of lip spoiler to put on, or not put one on at all.
darkangelgrafix 03-13-2002 02:26 AM

OH GOD YES, A WAGON KIT PLEEEASSEE. I was gonna have a friend of mine custom fit an rx7 widebody kit on mine but id rather have one that flows w/ the contours perfectly. How bout this for an idea. The BLUE civic:

A full WRC replica kit that is affordable, reasonably simple to install (not too much body modification) and easily obtainable here in the states.
DirtDevil 04-10-2002 10:14 AM

hate to say it ...

I hate to say this but there is already a widebody kit for the wagon. I was down in Southern Cali. and visited ISR(Autocaresubaru) and I believe Shiv was there tuning one killer Wagon that had the most insane Wide Fenders I have seen in the longest time! It was absolutely beautiful!!!! and man that thing was modded to the hilt and looked like it was sponsered! ask them down there as I have no clue who what or where it was from. but man I have to tell you it was craaaaazy!
So you may not be the first but you will be duely noted cause it looks awesome.
travmn 04-10-2002 10:32 AM

any pics on this site of that wagon?
SilverWRX02 04-10-2002 08:15 PM

wide body kits will prolly come out soon just like every other aftermarkets parts that are getting more available. :D
wrxdriven 04-10-2002 08:31 PM

currently in development stages

i am in the process of building the wide body for a wrx sedan.

it is more race than rally because rally has been already done.

This kit will be at least a 14 piece kit with some extra crazy modifications.

It will replace all door panels etc... It is 2" wider on each side.
After measurments it will easily fit 10" wide wheels if not bigger.

...more to come.

stentorian 04-16-2002 04:16 PM

Here is a pic of a wide body kit on a wagon, I think this was in a previous issue of Import Tuner...

TBreu007 04-16-2002 04:20 PM

How about a knock-off of the Cusco car?
Conduit 04-17-2002 02:35 PM

That would be truly awesome. I can't wait to see what he comes up with, though. I sure hope he is serious :)
wrxdriven 04-17-2002 09:04 PM

Very Serious

The wrx is being built from the ground up. This thing is Wild. It is definitly a reality. I will post pics later in the month. It will probably be finished in a couple months. One of a Kind!

Thanks for all your input. Any little bit helps.

P.s.
What color should I paint it
(Kandy, Pearl, Kameleon, etc...)

order date

what is the order date for the WRC WRX Wide body Kit ..
[email protected] 04-18-2002 09:46 AM

Did you just say 10 inch wide wheels. The car will stick like glue. I just have one question, "How much extra weight will this wide body kit add to the car". Or you could always use carbon fiber like the Altezza car.
Conduit 04-26-2002 01:20 AM

Ok, here is some inspiration:

Can it be done?
Here is a page with more pics for you:

Wide Body Ideas

I wish I could draw a picture here = I think wide wheel wells (flares) continues wide forward to the bumper (and backwards toward the rear bumber) to give a smooth appearance. I also think that side body molding between the bumpers - something sylish like the old Testarossa (five louvres) that run from flare to flare (straight is fine) would be AWSOME.

This is very possible for the sedan, but to flare the wagon's rear wheels would require more seperate pieces (the back doors are too close to the wheel well.

I think an "aggressive" front bumper would also add to the image, but you need to ensure that room remains since many people have Front Mount Intercoolers.

In my opinion the kit must have a total cost between $3K and $5K - anymore and nobody is going to buy it - any less and it is probably cheap stuff IMHO.

I would even buy simple fender flares. Esp if smooth from top like a turbo porsche has.
