GP of Italy part 1

Wr4wrX 08-30-2005 03:29 AM

GP of Italy
Everybody geared up for the GP of Italy? McLaren and Renault killed it during testing. I hope the pace of the two teams are close during the GP and there's some super sweet racing.
artkevin 08-30-2005 11:24 AM

I think Merc will have the pace again. No one can touch them in pure speed. It should be a mix of Renualt Mclaren in the top 4 unless something fails.
iamrazor 08-30-2005 11:43 AM

I wouldn't be surprised to see Button in the top 5. The Honda lump is making some good power. Hopefully the latest spec motor can hold up.

Taku will crash / blow-up.
Dussander 08-30-2005 02:24 PM

I'm excited about this race. I just love Monza. I would say JPM would win this one since he has the car and has the pace (every year), but he already said he would help Kimi once he was out of contention. So, I suspect Kimi followed by JPM if nothing breaks. I wish someone other then Alonso would come in next to give Kimi more hope, but it will be tough. Button and Michael are who I would suspect had a chance.
Then after Monza is Spa, then Interlagos, and then Suzuka. China isn't that exciting, but man these next 4 races are going to be awesome. Please let the championships go down to the wire! I suspect McLaren will end up with the Team Championship and Fernando the Drivers. Oh, how do the numbers get assigned? The drivers champ gets 1 and his team-mate gets 2, and then it goes by team championship results?

You got the number system right Dussander. It will be good to see the 1 and 2 plates on something thats not red. I am not a Ferrari hater but I am looking forward to the change.

Meaning : Kimi 1st, Alonso DNF :D
Dussander 08-30-2005 03:02 PM

I like Kimi 1st and Alonso 4th for the next 5 races. :) I don't really care which one wins it because they both deserve it, but man, that would be an awesome race. Or if maybe they get tied before China, that would be cool as well (and the Renault gets a tad faster).
Taku will crash / blow-up.
Why does he find himself in that position so often? Button has had two seasons of much better results than his team mate. I hope next year is good to J.B.

Did anyone get a pick 6 reminder yet? I think something definitely broke at their end. Some were having trouble registering got GP Turkey, and results still are not posted.

I sure hope it didn't get missed, because I scored 48 points on that one!

I don't think Pick6 ever recorded my selections. :( Definitely seems like some problem on their side.
grandpa rex 09-01-2005 05:40 AM

Got an email from pick 6 this morning. Here's why the results from Turkey haven't been posted:

apologise for the fact that the scores from the last race
have not yet been calculated and entered into the system.
The competition has recently been re-hosted on a new server,
and just about everything that could go wrong has done so.
The current issue is that the new c++ compiler will not accept
the Pick6 processing source code (I guess standards have changed)
so at present I am unable to calculate scores.
[We only got far enough to be able to find this out in the last hour]
If I am unable to fix this by Sunday night I'll find some way of
processing the results (for Turkey as well as for Italy) elsewhere,
and then try to enter them into the database.
Taku will crash / blow-up.
I've been saying that since last season. The ONLY, and I mean ONLY reason he is still in F1 is because of Japan's backing. Both Honda backing him and his fellow nationals backing him. If it had been another driver(from another country) he would have been yanked mid-season, and the third driver would have replaced him.

I understand that nationality plays a big role in F1(I root for Kimi, and rooted for Mika back in the day), but does anyone think that Honda will wake up and see that they don't have the driver in Sato to bring their cars to the next step? I think they will give it one more season, and if there's not enough positive results, they'll can him.

Mika(big meany who calls it how he sees it;) )

Here's my Pick6, and I did get my confimation email

K.Raikkonen

I hope alonso retires. He is an exceptional driver, but i really really do not like him. GO KIMI.
PS:Schumacher, retire from this race please, or at least hold alonso up.
Dussander 09-02-2005 11:06 AM

Williams running faster then I expected. BAR running slower then I expected. I actually had some hope for a podium for Ferrari, but after that practice, they look like they will need to work just to get points. I wish Karthikeyan would have got the new Jordan instead of Monteiro.
finnRex 09-02-2005 07:02 PM

1. Kimi
2. JPM
3. Heidfeld
4. Sato(going against my better judgement)
5. Alonso
6. Fisi
7. MS
8. Button

Mika

Could it? It is an Euro-sport afterall. And you know how lax they tend to be about nudity.
bemani 09-03-2005 12:58 PM

Apparently to Bob Varsha 1 + 10 = 10  he just keeps saying Kimi will start from 10th on the grid
finnRex 09-03-2005 01:01 PM

Too bad for Kimi. He's a dang good driver, as his record shows WHEN HIS CAR STAYS TOGETHER. Too bad Merc has been dropping the ball the last 6 years. From what I understand, Benzo was "experimenting" with a more powerful engine, and it backfired on them. Why experiment when you still have a *slight* chance to win the driver's championship?

Mika
slikrik05 09-03-2005 01:54 PM

yes BAR!
Wr4wrX 09-03-2005 08:49 PM

Too bad for Kimi's engine. His quali lap was beautiful.
Wr4wrX 09-04-2005 10:18 AM

Wow! That was an exciting race. Kimi is utterly amazing. That he qualified fastest with a one-stop fuel load blows my mind. JPM's harrowing last few laps with a failing tire was incredible. Schumi mathematically out of the drivers' championship...intense. Not too much passing, nonetheless, a fantastic race.
killthelights145 09-04-2005 11:15 AM

you guys know that Ferrari is getting KIMI next year :)
finnRex 09-04-2005 11:31 AM

Kimi going to Ferrari in '06? So far all the speculation that I have seen is Kimi going in '07. Please enlighten us;).

Mika
killthelights145 09-04-2005 11:41 AM

hmmm i could of misunderstood. but i did hear Shumi is going to mclaren and kimi to ferrari, and ferrari is also loosing barichello
finnRex 09-04-2005 12:03 PM

Yeah, BARricello is leaving Ferrari. I would think that Kimi would be staying at McLaren until MS retired. Michael made that team, more or less.

As far as Kimi goes, I want him to go to a team that can make a RELIABLE car that can win championships. He'll take care of the rest.

Mika

I am pretty sure that is pure speculation if not out and out rumour from the paddock. Stranger things have happened but I doubt that will come to pass.
edit: You are right about Rubens. He will be leaving BAR but according to more speculation BAR got him for trade bait to keep Button away from Williams and send Rubens instead. Doubt that one too.
bemani 09-04-2005 02:26 PM
Kimi going to Ferrari in '06? So far all the speculation that I have seen is Kimi going in '07. Please enlighten us;).

Mika
Yeah, the rumor is Kimi & Valentino Rossi in Ferrari for 07
Dussander 09-06-2005 09:27 AM

Notes from the race:
Kimi is human! He has made very few mistakes this year, so that spin was a surprise. They made a huge deal about Kimi's qualy pace which was certainly awesome but the commentators seemed to make the fuel difference larger then it was. Fernando - pitted at 19, Juan 20, Fisi 21, and Kimi on 25. I suspect Kimi got a couple of extra laps of gas by following a slow JV for the first 14 laps. He still ran the fastest qualy lap with the most fuel.
Jungle-boy did a great job for Williams.
I was hoping Rubens could beat Michael for Monza, but that crappy extra pit stop killed that chance. Bummer. Good racing between them up to that point.
Every driver finished! That is insane.
I wonder how much new vs. old motor matters for a race? Renault and Kimi will use old motors (if they don't blow) for Spa. Juan and BAR get new motors.
Speaking of BAR, I'm a little mystified on why they did so poorly this weekend. I recall some smoke coming from Buttons car on the grid. I wonder if they had to dial back the motors to just finish the race?
Karthikeyan gets a new Jordan for Spa, which is good. Doornbas has impressed so far.
Wr4wrX 09-06-2005 11:20 AM
Speaking of BAR, I'm a little mystified on why they did so poorly this weekend. I recall some smoke coming from Buttons car on the grid. I wonder if they had to dial back the motors to just finish the race?
If I remember correctly, BAR fell off a lot during testing and their practice times weren't competitive either. Like the Speed commentators said, the BARs and the Ferraris, probably qualified on a light fuel load, but their quali times were not indicative of both teams' race pace.
Dussander 09-06-2005 12:32 PM

Here is what Button said:
Apart from qualifying we have struggled the whole weekend here. We have found this a difficult circuit and it has been tough getting to grips with the low downforce configuration. We had problems with the fuel rig which also meant that I had to stop four laps early and that cost me on the final result. Hopefully when we return to the higher downforce circuits of the next four races we will be able to get back on the pace.
ArtGecko 09-06-2005 05:57 PM

That was a fun race to watch! I was away for the weekend, so I didn't see it until last night.

Pick6 is back and running. Andy! Way to go!!!! 10th place for the season out of over 3000 competitors. Looks like Gary and I can't catch you unless you miss a week. Gary and I are only a point apart, and he got two points more than me this week, so it looks like if there was a tally posted as of Turkey, I might have been in second place for the season! That would be a record for me since I started doing this 4 years ago.

Here's Italy:

Nope ;) But you can choose "substitute driver." What are the odds of getting that one right! Not only do you have to guess that someone will go missing for a race, but then guess where whomever isn't running's replacement will finish in the standings! I'd score just as well guessing JV for points! :D
