Black out my headlights:

Messed with my Gauge Bezel:

And sprayed my interior trim Black:

All in all everything came out great...alittle tincy wincy bit of overspray on the cluster that I will touch up later, and awaiting new bulbs for my headlight. Spent about $40bucks in supplies + 15 worth of beer made for a great day at home.

nice work on the headlights but i would have kept some chrome reflectors for the signals.
nice work on the trim but let's hope you don't get tired of it.
the gauge cluster is just not my tea. maybe with red needles but... blech.
way to DIY!

| B00st3dWRX | 03-12-2007 10:00 PM |
also i need to get a new brush from the hobby store and am gonna paint the SUBARU on the wheel caps red to match the lip and calipers, and also on the the cupholder the small image of the beverage Im gonna fill in so I have some nice contrast and a universal theme.

What color are you changing your gauges? If you use the traditional bulb cover method for blue it won't look nice. Go here for how to make it blue:

| Mechie3 | 03-13-2007 09:35 AM |
The gels I used that matched the prosports was Rosco (brand name) #68

thanks- I guess I can get pretty handy with the rattle cans. I fixed the underspray between the speedo and tach this morning. looks so much cleaner, that little underspray of red just kept catching my eye, but not anymore.Let me know if you can see the difference :)
before with underspray: now with no underspray

nice full sleeve LOL
| MYnewWRX | 03-13-2007 03:21 PM |
thats whats up...that came out awesome..I was t hinking of a lot of DIY mods because im poor...do you mind if I copy your gauge bezel thing ?
| twizzstyle | 03-13-2007 03:22 PM |
I actually really like the bezel! Nice job!
| B00st3dWRX | 03-13-2007 03:26 PM |
no be my guest. I first painted the whole bezel black with about 4 coats then cleared. Masked off everything and with an exacto knife i cut along the groove that surrounds the rings (very very easy) tis like theres a track to follow. unpeel the part of the tape inside of the rings revealing only the inner lip you want red. I hit it about 4 times also with the krylon (black was duplicolor btw left over from rims so its a nice thick paint) did not clear the red (i think im gonna respray the balck a coat also without clearing it, it looks better IMO) let dry, enjoy some boob-tube drink a cold 1 then peel off re-assemble and walla.
| crewchief97 | 03-13-2007 04:42 PM |
+1 for the DIY projects and the sleeve...-100 for the budlight ;) Miller Lite is the only way to go IMO...I think that the bezel ring should have been yellow to match the needles or paint the needles red...on the whole though, everything looks good.
| B00st3dWRX | 03-13-2007 06:06 PM |
thnx...im looking into painting the needles red but the more I look at it I kinda like the yellow contrasting. it breaks it up because the gauge faces are black and the red umm redline then u got the black and red bezel so the yellow needles I wil prolly rock for awhile. And thnx for the sleeve comp. working on my back and my right arm now lol.
| Handsdown | 03-13-2007 06:55 PM |
dude, red and yellow do not contrast. they are analogous.
and in this case, they hideous.

| Patrick Olsen | 03-13-2007 07:52 PM |
I think the red bezels look sweet - a very clever idea, and it came out well. And although I wouldn't say the red vs. yellow is "hideous", I do think the needles would look better if they were red. OOoh, or maybe try black, so they match the gauges!!! :D
The first pics you showed I thought looked OK, but the last pic (showing the fixed underspray) the red and yellow together just don't do it for me.

might be a dumb question but nighttime visibility of the needles?...
| B00st3dWRX | 03-13-2007 11:03 PM |
my thought exactly...i just went and re-installed them and lit them up....they do light up red (however I may strip the paint back down and get some clear candy red hobby paint so that more light would be allowed to show):
