Has anyone swaped there stock Body Panels for 22B Panels? Is it possible?

Just wondering if any of you fellow subie owners have swaped out your stock Body Panels for the Flared 22B panels. If so, can you post a pic? THANXX. I read that there is a compan out there that sells the 22B panels.
Xelerator 10-30-2000 09:22 AM

I am also interested in this idea. I have thought that it would be easy to do the front fenders, simply bolt-on, but the rear would need some cutting, welding, and leading to get the extended width.

I found a site (can't remember) that had one (1) front 22B panel for sale and could possibly be a direct bolt on? These are all just ideas and not too sure if this would work. But I do like the idea
Dobes 10-30-2000 09:43 AM

In a word, no.

There has been discussions on this before so I'm sure a short search will turn up some more information.

Supposing you could find a way to get them on, you still have the problem of the wheels now being offset about 6" inboard. The 22B's suspension is a far cry from the RS' so you will probably need to buy that whole setup from the 22B as well. My guess is somewhere around $10k for the job, if it's possible.
Strepto 10-30-2000 10:10 AM

just the body parts will run you $10k, then god knows what the labor to cut the stock pannels off and the weld the new ones on will cost (remember to add painting to it). Also, you'll need a new front and rear bumper. The discussion is an old one, but what it comes down to is that it's a bad idea (unless money flows from your pores). As far as the suspension goes, it's been shown that it's identicle in geometry to the WRX's. The wheels actually just have a larger offset and the rears are on spacers.
wrxman555 10-30-2000 03:27 PM

SO- In other words.....PISS ON THAT IDEA [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/frown.gif[/img]
Marco 10-30-2000 04:11 PM

That's exactly how I felt when I found out about the prices for the parts. How can you justify paying $4,075 for 1 (yes one) quarter panel. The parts alone are more expensive than my whole car [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/frown.gif[/img]

I hope someone comes out with a decent body kit for a reasonable price. I mainly wnat to get either a 22B replica, or just fender flares so that I can fit larger tires and wheels [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/biggrin.gif[/img]

Cheers,
Marco

That mystery company working on the carbon fiber kit for 2,500 is our mission. We need to find out who they are and show our interest and support and get this thing produced.

ANYBODY WHO RECALLS A NAME, OR POSTING PLEASE POST THAT HERE SO WE CAN TRACE THESE FOLKS DOWN.

Marco 10-31-2000 12:12 AM

I priced all the parts needed and they are a bit over $20,000. Most of the parts are bolt on, but the rear quarter panels need to be cut and welded the new 22B ones. If you take into account that a good paint job will be needed plus tires and wheels with different offset to fill the wider fenders, you should be around $30,000.

The suspension components are the same; the only difference is the wheels which are 1.5" wider (7" stock / 8.5" 22B) and the offset is different as well.

I think somebody was working on a 22B carbon fiber kit for around $2,500.

I hope this clears any doubts.

Marco

I WAS IN GREECE THIS SUMMER AND SAW A LOT OF AUTO ENTHUSIASTS' WET DREAMS(MINE INCLUDED). WATCHING MAKKINEN AND CODRIVER RACE MAKKINEN EDITION EVO6'S ON COASTAL ROADS IN TRAFFIC!!!!!AUDI RS6 COPCARS WITH PORSCHE WHEELS, SUSPENSION, AND BRAKES!!!!A COSWORTH SIERRA R500 WITH NITRUS. GETTING BACK TO THE POINT, FORGET ABOUT MAKING THE RS LOOK LIKE THE 22B. GO WITH A SIMPLER WIDEBODY MOD THAT WOULD CONSIST OF ADDING FAIRINGS OVER THE EXISTING WHEELWELLS AND CUTTING AWAY THE OLD ARCHES. NOT ONLY WOULD YOU BE ABLE TOFIT ON SOME 225ZR18'S BUT CREAT A DINTINCT LOOK THAT EVERYBODY WOULD JOCK!!!THAT'S JUST MY OPINION THOUGH
Pipercub 10-31-2000 03:52 AM

Ok I have forgotten about the 22B body.
Pipercub 10-31-2000 03:54 AM

Nope, that didn't last long, I still want to do it. SO anybody know any company names? I did call CTC, the retailers of my 22B wing, and they remembered hearing that the company was in NY.
Marco 10-31-2000 05:32 AM

There was also a company in France that make the 22B conversion for the Impreza sedan, which makes sense since there are more sedans than coupes in Europe.

I'll try searching the old archives although I doubt I find it since most of the old posts have been deleted.

I'll let you know if I find it.

Cheers,
Marco

We are the guys doing the $2500 22B body kit. Looks like the first kit out the door will be an early Christmas present.

If you would like more info, e-mail me directly ...
[email protected]

As soon as I have some pics, I'll post them in the vendors section. Also, check the vendors section for info on carbon hoods in the next couple of days.

Hey, did anybody else follow up on this?! I've e-mailed the guy a couple times, with no response. I think their busy over there, or something. I'm just interested in seeing some pics!!!
Hashiriya 11-14-2000 10:48 PM

I talked to them (via email) about making a custom front bumper kit. They seem pretty professional. Hope he posts some pics.

Pipercub 11-15-2000 12:26 AM

I emailed and got no response as well. I am interested in doing this, I hope they surface.
stever 11-15-2000 01:30 AM

To anyone who hasn't gotten a response from me regarding the 22B fenders, it's probably because I've moved out of the realms of Cablevision and no longer have the cable moden (sniff sniff) or the e-mail address that is linked to the little mail icon. I've tried to contact imprezer and nick for the past few weeks, but I'm guessing that they're just a little busy with the new site.

Anyway, my permanent e-mail address is [email protected] , feel free to ask questions about fenders, hoods, etc. etc.

Ooops ... almost forgot. In my previous post, I mentioned something about posting in the Vendor's section about carbon hoods. Well, since I haven't been able to get my account changed I'll have to post it here.

We are making carbon/kevlar hoods for the Impreza. This is the checkerboard looking cloth. The natural colors are yellow/black checkerboard, but we can get blue/black and red/black and maybe some others to more or less match the color of your car. Obviously, you're pretty much stuck with the black (carbon) part, but the kevlar can be dyed almost any color.

Any pics of the hoods yet?
BongMan 11-15-2000 11:47 AM

A carbon fiber 22b Kit?!?! wow it's like something out of my dreams. Well please post some pics. I'll be trying to contact you shortly. Also i would be interested in that carbon kevlar hood. Very nice. Regardless keep up the good work.

the fenders arn't exactly like the 22b. They seem to bulge at different points, and there is a fold that is right in eyesore. The fenders arn't as smooth looking as the 22b. Anyway it's an awsome mod, I would do it, but also I would have to figure how to put 18z on the impreza [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smile.gif[/img]
the fenders arn't exactly like the 22b.
yea, after i posted these pics i went and found some 22b pics, and theyre not quite the same, but as far as im concerned theyre close enuff [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smile.gif[/img]
Marco 11-17-2000 11:00 AM

To the best of my knowledge, the pictures above are for the Eurosport Rally team and not the ones being made by Stever. The pictured fenders are already for sale, but there is much work to be done. It even requieres that you relocate the gas filler neck.

Cheers,
Marco
WRXwannbe 11-17-2000 05:39 PM

will they be just like the 22b/WRC fenders? or a variation/hybrid? either way it's too cool that people are stepping up and doing this!
stever 11-17-2000 07:09 PM

I noticed the sharp edges too, but I thought it was just me. Ours will look just like the 22B fenders.

how about a carbon fibre hood?

tmr
MrX 11-18-2000 12:59 AM

Yeah, those pics are not from Stever. He won't have pics till next week because he won't be at the shop till then. As for the work with the panels, he's told me this:

Stever-

Fuel tank: The old door comes off and the lip on the new fender gets
bonded to the old one, so the cap is a little deeper. I think the old
door will fit, but I won't know until next week as I'm not at the shop.
If it doesn't fit, we'll provide a door and the hinge will be re-used.

Front bumper: You can either replace the front and rear bumpers
with 22B bumpers, or stretch your exsisting bumper. The kit will have spacers to mount the bumpers. The bumpers flex enough without distorting, but I'm not sure if a lip will flex. It should, but I can't guarantee anything. The front only has to stretch out a little less than an inch on each side. I'll send (or post) some close-up pictures of the bumper/fender area so you can decide if it looks
OK.

The part about the lip was in response to a question I had about buying a front lip. I wanted to know if the kit will allow for it to be there or not.

Stever-

The front fenders can be done by anyone, they just bolt on. Same with the fender spacers. The rear fenders require a bit more work.I didn't want to lose the structural rigidity of the steel fenders. It looks
like the easiest way is to modify (read hammer) the wheel opening of the original fender to meet the flare (just under 2 inches) and bond them together. I'll know exactly how we're going to do it in a week or so. It shouldn't be too bad. The flares themselves shouldn't need much prep at all. The side skirts will bolt on in the original locations. So, most of the body shop
bill will be in paint/prep and blending the rear fenders into the existing fenders. Luckily, it looks like we'll be able to eliminate most of the blend areas by making the rear fenders extend to the edges of the originals.

I hope this helps explain a few things...I know it did for me. I'd also like to mention that he won't be in to the shop until next week, so the above might not be entirely accurate. Basically we'll have to wait and see.

As a potential customer my decision would be based on one thing. Is it a 22B kit or just a widebody kit? If it is a 22B kit it is a done deal, if not then I have no interest and will just have to save two years to buy the real parts from Subaru.
iwantyourcar 09-10-2010 06:25 AM

fenders and quarter pannels.

These are the only things i have found so far... not sure on the fit of the fenders since it could be the carbon fiber hood throwing off the alignment, or they didn't adjust the bolts correctly on the fenders. As for the quarter panels... i don't care for the rivets or the fact that they don't sit flush. The price is right though @ $229 for a pair of either front or rear by AIT racing :D

If you are like me, you might want to wait for OEM to come down on the price.
