STi Under Car Aero Pieces part 1

akinasdevil 07-27-2005 09:41 AM

STi Under Car Aero Pieces
Has anybody tried fitting the aero pieces that are under the 05 (or soon to be released 06) STi onto 04 STi? Wish I had a pic, but the pieces(rather large) run under the car on each side and help smooth out the air under the car and direct it out the back. Mostly for high speed stability from what I've read. If you know what I'm talking about and have tried to bolt these onto an 04 lemme know, and if you have pic even better! Or if you have tried without success, you are more than welcome to post that as well. Thanks. :D

Now with pics:

no, he means the undercar aero peices. Reading comprehension!!!
The 05 has panels under the body that the 04 doesnt. It also has a revised pan under the motor.
nate.the.great 07-27-2005 02:21 PM

roger that. even the '05 WRX non-STi has new panels. i'm not sure if they bolt up to the same locations as pre-05 though, and i wonder if the '06 parts will fit the '05s...
paperchasin 07-27-2005 03:35 PM

id like to kno too...
ittybitty_STI 07-27-2005 05:42 PM

Thats a nice spoiler also! that would be awesome if they had that in CF and the sides same color as the car! Pricey im sure.
roger that. even the '05 WRX non-STi has new panels.
Not mine...it's the same as my '04 was.
nate.the.great 07-27-2005 09:31 PM

hmmm, well i'm not sure if the '04 and '05 are different. sorry, i should have been more clear. the '05 is for sure different from the '03
italy wrx 07-28-2005 02:35 AM

03,04, 05 are exactly the same. Had my friend's 05 STI on a lift next to my 03 and all the holes for the panels are there. All you need to do is order the panels and all the push-clips and they fit perfectly. Think it was $75 per panel and $1.50 a clip.

is that what you are talking about?
Jonnyfilmboy 07-28-2005 08:29 AM

All that diffuser will do is straighten the airflow out of the underbody. Which, if anything will just increase your mpg slightly. There's no venturi effect there, so you aren't going to gain any downforce. I don't think it looks that good, so personally I don't see the benefit. Especially when we find out that it costs over $400 probably.
jay25RS 07-28-2005 09:38 AM

On the 2005 STi's there is plastic cladding under the car. This isn't the diffuser looking thing on the 2006 which is located under the spare tire well. The 2005 has the cladding under the footwells of the passenger compartment.

The 06 OEM diffuser costs less than $100 shipped. However I don't think it bolts onto 04-05.
akinasdevil 07-28-2005 10:44 AM

Ok, well then lets open this up a little and include the 06 pieces as well. Anybody who has successfully or UNsuccessfully tried to put any of the newer aero pieces on an 04 STi please post here. Thanks! :D

Here is a new pic for better reference....

Last time I looked it waas 70000 yen which is roughly equal to $600. Unless I am looking at the wrong part.
akinasdevil 07-28-2005 10:53 AM

Whoa that's alot more than $100...

My diffuser is already in the states, just been too busy at work to go pick it up, it was 100 dollars shipped. I do think there will be fitting issues but we'll see this weekend.
akinasdevil 07-28-2005 11:02 AM

Japanparts.com has it for about $60, so with shipping, $100 sounds about right. And if these come on the 06 STi here in the states, then the dealers across the country should have them as well...all we need to know now is if they fit or not...
subieworx 07-28-2005 11:04 AM

Ok, must have been looking at something else. Or I added a 0.
jmanrex 07-29-2005 05:17 PM

ok i sent an email to subaruparts and they don't know if they will work but i did get item #'s and pricing the 2 side pieces will run about $52 per side and then about $20 shipping
TopKatz 07-29-2005 06:56 PM

japanparts.com has the rear defuser for like 54 bucks.... they have a bunch of 06 stuff listed, including the new top wingthingy
Thumper23 07-29-2005 07:18 PM

they should fit fine, the chassis really hasn't changed, it just a matter whether or not there are holes for the clips to go into
STi-MAN 07-29-2005 09:34 PM

i'll find out for you guys tomarrow, like i said i think the bolts arent gonna line up but we'll see. finally get to pick it up from the post office.
DrD 07-29-2005 09:35 PM

japanparts says the rear diffuser comes with the brackets and bolts - hopefully they will work - post pics STi-MAN!
distorto 07-29-2005 10:05 PM

i'm glad to hear these are cheap...i really imagined them being uber expensive.
FWD WRX 07-29-2005 10:56 PM

wow great prices!! please keep us update on the rear diffuser.. i would love to install one on mines

Hey Myles you wouldn't happen to have tried putting the under car aero pieces from the 05 STi on an 04 STi would ya? Oh yeah and I sent you a PM.

bad news, there was some problem with usps so those dumb asses sent the package back to japan. its gonna be another 2 weeks b4 i see it again. yea it sucks. but once i do finally get it ill post pics.
ZLODEY 08-01-2005 02:23 AM

Do it please... The price is so attractive, but noone knows if it fits w/o drilling :)
akinasdevil 08-05-2005 05:53 AM

Even if it requires drilling it would be worth knowing that you could fit some of these pieces on without too much trouble.
PRODRIVEN 08-05-2005 12:31 PM

Wonder if these will work on a GC?
akinasdevil 08-12-2005 10:15 AM

Any updates...I've seen a couple of people on here already get the rear diffuser for their 04-05 STi's.
subywrx 08-12-2005 12:18 PM

There are no holes available for the rear diffuser to mount on. We can make new holes to mount the diffuser on or use some kind of bracket to mount it.
olappa 09-18-2006 04:23 PM

Bump....

Can anyone confirm that the 05 undercladding will fit an 04?

Rear Diffuser from 06 to 04? And what modifications necessary, if any?

I almost never tell anyone to do this but... please SEARCH! All of what you are looking for has been discussed to death on these forums.
PARANOID56 09-18-2006 05:42 PM

yea, just stick your head under your car. if they have the little divets like this then it will fit.

I did, I did. I promise

From my reading, I got the gist that it should work, and any other requirements would be factory-supplied clips or minor drilling.

I'd still like to hear if it has ACTUALLY been done by a member here, and how the whole thing played out in terms of labor and function.
PARANOID56 09-18-2006 06:20 PM

just do it, its like a 1hr install. just put up the bracket, and drill it, then bolt it. super easy. but your best bet would be to jsut peak you head under your car. you will also want to see if you have these holes too. look just above the black bracket, at the two stainless steel buttong head allen screws.
