HOW TO: Horn Hookup and Turn Signal Auto Canceling on Aftermarket Wheel *NRG Setup*
Well I have looked around and information is all over scattered in pieces.
Everyone have their own way of doing Horn and Signal on Aftermarket Steering wheel and Hub.

This is In My Opinion is the easiest and SAFEST hookup of Horn and Auto Turn Signal Canceling on my 2005 STI.

Products Used:

1. NRG-F009 Steering Wheel
2. NRG SRK-250B Black QUICK RELEASE Kit Generation 2.5
3. NRG SRK-100H Short Hub

Here we go.

Horn Hookup:

All you need is 1 feet of 8 Gauge Wire and some zip ties.

You will find a Screw right under the steering column.
You will use that screw to hold the Red wire (brush) in place and also use couple Zip ties to set it in proper location.
When Hub is installed red wire have to be touching the Copper Ring in the back of the Hub.

You will connect GREEN/RED wire to your 8Gauge red wire that is touching the Hub. If in doubt test this green/red wire
by touching ground (metal steering column) - Your horn will signal with your ignition OFF.

Everything else is pretty straight forward. Here is some pictures.

Auto Turn Signal Canceling:

You Will REUSE the center insert of your Clock spring. You can take it out by prying off four tabs that holds whole Clock Spring together.

The Turn Canceling piece is little too large in diameter so you will have to wrap inside of the NRG hub with electrical tape.
Use about 10-15 full turns and check periodically how the Canceling piece fits. Once it fits snug I used a little bit of 3M trim adhesive glue
to make sure the piece stays in place and put some tape over it.

Take a note from the picture how it goes onto the hub.

Now Install your Hub, Quick Release and Wheel and ENJOY the Luxury of HORN and Auto Canceling Turn Signals. (and just forget about Cruise Control)

I spy 02-03 WRX seats in the STi :)
AbACUZ 12-07-2006 07:50 PM

daily driver without airbags :banghead:
ProdriveRex 12-07-2006 09:28 PM

:) I really dont care about airbags to be honest with you. :) but i am sure you have many reasons why we have em.... I just dont care :)
ColesSTi 12-07-2006 09:43 PM

You need racing seats and two five point harness and and something to tie

them to then you will just have a different safety setup. I plan on asking for

a steering wheel setup for Christmas.

You think running 5 points without a cage is safer than not having airbags?!

what is the green/red wire you are talking about that goes to the other end of the red 8 gauge wire? is it found inside the steering column? or did it come with your "package"

Its the Horn Wire. If that wire sees Ground your Horn will honk. :) it goes into Clock spring.

And this is the update.

I ditched that weird shaped leather 009 wheel for 012 in Suede with red stiching. I couldnt get used to that weird shape. I guess I like my wheel Round. :)

And you have to make sure they order the right one for ya. because part numbers for Black and Red stiching some how the same. I got one with black stiching but NRG was nice enough to send me replacement free of charge and included Prepaid postage to return the incorrect one.
ColesSTi 12-08-2006 01:10 AM

What made you get that wheel over the one with two buttons? I was thinking left for 2 stage boost controller right for the 3 hellas.
What made you get that wheel over the one with two buttons? I was thinking left for 2 stage boost controller right for the 3 hellas.
I just like my Horn to be in the middle. Plus I like to keep my hand on the place where the button is, sometimes when I drive. And I am sure I would accidentaly hit it. And what if you are turning and you need to use your Hellas, you might hit your boost button instead of Horn.
ColesSTi 12-08-2006 05:09 PM

It wouldn't be much higher boost just good enough to get threw some of my

gears to help the drive train. Good point though. On your old wheel you

touched on you had some trouble seeing your cluster is this wheel any

better? Reason I ask is, I have a auto meter dual cluster pods.
ProdriveRex 12-08-2006 05:29 PM

i can see cluster better with round wheel. :)
dnaL0R 12-10-2006 02:49 PM

ok im trying to put in my steering wheel in, but i can't make it work... better yet, i dont know wtf im doing... i got the steering wheel off half way, i just have too many harnesses thats holding the wheel in still [it's basically dangling off]... and also, whish piece is the clockspring or whatever... there are two black piece inside, one with the yellow sticker on it and another one right behind that... which one do i need to retain? or do i just get rid of all of them? can i just cut off all the harnesses? thnx in advance
njskatchmo 12-10-2006 03:31 PM

Stick the prodrive emblem in teh center or get a prodrive shift knob, it is very similar to whats there now and will match the knob, but looks good.
living4surf 12-10-2006 04:10 PM

Counterfit 12-10-2006 10:44 PM

Share the knowledge brother.
chrisagu28 04-22-2012 01:41 AM

I am curious if anybody would have a part number for that center insert piece. I don't have one and I have been looking around and no luck.
iconone 09-22-2012 10:23 AM

I know I bumping a old thread but this seems to be the best one. I have the same wheel and quick release as the op. I need to know which green and red wire is for the horn? On my 05 Wrx I have 2 green and red wires on the left side connector and one green and red wire on the right side connector. Which one is the correct green and red wire?

This is the connector on the left side with 2 green and red wires

This is the one on on the right side with one green and red wire.

This^^
iconone 01-26-2013 11:09 PM

^ It's none of them. It's the green and red wire off the actual clock spring. I just cut mine and added some wire to it.
