Well, I try this one, because the one I DLd the other day only played 1/4 of the way through.

Thanks for the link.
YassiniWRX02 12-16-2004 10:09 PM

very cool video, thanks!
ScottPWRX 12-16-2004 10:15 PM

That was awesome! I want one of each!
5spdfrk 12-16-2004 10:22 PM

Thanks, that one played all the way through.
New2MeSuby 12-16-2004 10:43 PM

too bad we only get the mr not the fq400 here in the states...eh rich kids would only blow them up anyway...
King Fish 12-16-2004 11:03 PM

Wow!
makofoto 12-16-2004 11:06 PM

Plenty of tuners out there will give you 400 hp and more ...

and/or you can import an EVO 7 with all of the JDM goodies ... which is what one of our AX'ers did. Not sure about the EVO8's but his came with all of the hardware for Anti-lag built-in ... just had to put in a new ECU program to use it. He also installed custom center dif software so that he has a 35/65 split.

This Evo would certainly top the FQ400 ... for a lot less money. Well ... if you insist on wanting to drive it on the street, it would cost a bit more to federalize it. :D
1984 12-17-2004 12:59 AM

^^is that a pic of the Evo7 you're talking about? He must have imported it from Europe.
makofoto 12-17-2004 01:04 AM

What I said ... no, imported from Japan ... I think it was about $36K ... not street legal, not SCCA Solo II legal, except in the "race car" class (CM? rule book is in the garage) ... no US VIN number.

hmmm ... well for a while he had a Florida license plate on it ... I think they have a loop hole down there ?
1984 12-17-2004 09:45 AM

Okay, I was just curious since the car is LHD. Great looking car though. I'd take a well sorted out Evo 7 over an Evo 8 FQ400 anyday.

;)
makofoto 12-17-2004 01:39 PM

Wow ... I can't believe I printed the original backwards! Thanks Osgood! :p ;)
wrxtremeWGN 12-17-2004 08:12 PM

that uk tv show is awesome, wish we had top gear here.
speedyHAM 12-17-2004 08:32 PM

That show rocks. Just so everyone knows- they are playing old episodes on Speed these days. I catch it when I get the chance.
JDM 3SGTE 12-17-2004 08:37 PM

the first picture seems right to me. since when is the little intake scoop on the hood on the right side of the car? the second one is the one that is reversed.
scooby-stu 12-17-2004 10:31 PM

Yeah TopGear is bad i used to watch it in England all the time. Jeremy clarkeson (the presenter) is quite a driver himself! lucky bestard gets to test drive all the nice rides

They are playing Fifth Gear. Same producers (I think), but different show.
555ideways 12-18-2004 03:17 PM

That was an awesome top gear segment. Too bad about the conclusion of the FQ400. They made it seem like the best car in the world for a second. Crazy price tag though. something like $47,000! yikes.

thats pounds, so multiply that number by 1.94
needsboost2005 12-18-2004 08:59 PM

wow turbo lag ......
5spdfrk 12-19-2004 12:43 AM
thats pounds, so multiply that number by 1.94
Yes, but that doesn't apply to the cars. If an EVO is 47,000 pounds, it is the equivalent of 47,000 dollars.
Osgood30 12-19-2004 01:20 AM
Yes, but that doesn't apply to the cars. If an EVO is 47,000 pounds, it is the equivalent of 47,000 dollars.
hmm I never knew that
thesmokingman 12-19-2004 02:17 AM

The service intervals on that thing are horrendous.

if that is the same one I saw in an autox a year or two ago at hollywood park, it was imported from a place in santa ana. Supposedly, that shop was importing them and stating that they were legal with licenses and everything, but didn't have the paperwork to back it up. They were also selling them for around 23k. does that guy also have an m roadster?
kwak 12-19-2004 02:48 PM
wow turbo lag ......
While their demonstration makes for interesting TV it was meaningless. Every car, regardless of whether it has a turbo or not, has a power band. The EVO was in top gear which they said will do 175mph. Put any car that far below the power band and it won't accelerate.

Turbo lag refers to the delay between stepping on the gas pedal and when the turbo comes up on boost, even if the engine rpm is in the power band.

Sure it does. If you could import this car, it would cost you $47,000 pounds or a little over $91,000. Not sure what you meant by your statement.
5spdfrk 12-19-2004 11:40 PM

Well, I have no real proof, but haven't searched for any either. I thought the same as you until b_tapper said otherwise in another thread about the fq400. He could be wrong, but since he is a scooby guru, I trust his word.
Actually the japanese and american cars cost the same in us dollars as they do in pounds in england. The Prius is 19k pounds and the mustang is 25k pounds...same as they cost in the US
majmun 12-20-2004 12:14 AM

The numbers may be the same, but the COST may be entirely different. You would have to take into acount a lot of different variables to decide what the true relative cost would be to each consumer in different economies. If something is not available to you, you must import it. If you have to import it, then you have to pay what it costs in the market in which it is available.

What you have to understand about the FQ400 is that it is a UK only car. It starts life as an FQ320 and then is modified by a couple of different UK tuners (Rampage being one that I remember off hand). To buy an FQ400, you would have to pay $91,000, or however many units of your domestic currency would equal 47,000 pounds.
Plasteredcat 12-20-2004 12:24 AM

Great vids . I ended up watching the other show putting the EVO Vs the STI . Was a great show.

I'm assuming he wasn't talking about importing and neither am I, but rather just the numbers.
Like if the fq 400 was offered in the states and the UK it would be $47,000 here and 47,000 pounds there respectively.
majmun 12-20-2004 01:07 AM

I understand what you are saying, and you're right. On cars available in both places, the numbers on the sticker are pretty much the same.

You were specifically talking about the FQ400. That's why I brought up the difference. ;)
5spdfrk 12-20-2004 12:09 PM

And I understood what you were saying, I just didn't put it right to begin w/. Good talking w/ you though. :)
parker/slc/gc8fan 12-20-2004 04:02 PM

but the evo 7 is just so much hotter.
WRXPRESS 12-22-2004 11:07 AM

White 2.5rs 01-26-2005 03:03 PM

2 pounds is about .9 or 1.1 dollars i believe
