It is very nice, but expensive fo rmy tastes. I use a simple 1 ton jack (found in any discount auto) that is small, light, cheap ($40) and fits in my race box easily.

Yeah, way too expenisve for me as well. I use a 2 ton AC Delco jack I bought 4 years ago. Spent under $40, and it works like a champ.

get's my vote -- bought one, and it's alright. A bit small to be completely stable for general shop use, but great for on-the-road. Light, two-piece handle, decent price (often on sale).

This is the one to have. Its slightly smaller than a full size floor jack, MUCH lighter than a typical steel unit since its aluminum and very reasonable in price. Plus, with the padded saddle, it has lass of a chance of mangling your undercarriage over time with repeated use and the handle makes it easy to tote. I have it and love it.

I bought a cheap set at walmart that had a rolling jack, 2 jack stands, and a nice case that looked like a gun case to carry them in. it was under $40

I was at walmart the other day and they had what appeard to be that $80 harbor freight jack just rebadged for $50. If I didnt already have a craftsman I probably would have picked up 3

Another vote for this jack. I've got 2, and thought they were bargains at $149.

The harbor freight jack is pretty good. It is very light so easy to move around. I would say though that you only get about 1-1.5 seasons out them before they start to leak.

I use the full-size version of the Harbor Freight jack. Mainly because I use it at home and just take it with me. Takes a little more space, but I never keep anything in the trunk but autox gear anyway. :)

Funny you should mention this as I stopped into this thread to check for replacements for one of these jacks. I've had it for about a year and one of the casters destroyed itself in about 7 months of very infrequent use. It's a decent autocross jack and is very light and cheap, just don't expect it to last very long for that price.
Despite the added weight and extra cost, I'm seriously considering an AC Hydraulics DK20 as my next jack. It's still lighter than most full-size steel jacks of that size (64.5lbs vs 90+ for most others), has a 4400 lb capacity and is VERY highly rated everywhere I've read about them. Of course, they are also $259 shipped which isn't really all that cheap either, but they do have a 5-year warranty and a great reputation.

You can get extra casters. A friend of mine goes threw those all the time so he just has 3 casters sitting around at all times now.

True, but it's still hard for me to trust a jack when a piece like that just breaks on it after such a small amount of use. :-/

i use a sears craftsman jack that came in a little black carrying case. I use that with the Eastwood unibody jack adaptor to save wear on the jack rail, and the adaptor fits nicely in the case.
It's decent, has been reliable for 2.5 seasons so far, and cheap enough to replace every couple years.

i bought the diesel craftsman one from sears and can totally justify the price. I use it at least once a week during the summer though. It was the very best tool i bought, ever.

Where do you get these? Now that autocross season is back in full swing, I may just put off my new jack purchase for now if I can get some caster sets for this thing cheaply and easily enough.

i bought the lightweight aluminum jack from pepboys for 79.99 on sale plus 10$ mail in rebate. Looks exactly like that one from harborfreights....and actually exact same dimensions....wonder if it's manufactured by the same company. Great value for the money....and now i don't have to drive up planks to jack up either :)

Get the ALUMINUM one... if you're planning on moving it around a lot - Makes a huge difference...
The PepBoys/Harbor Freight one is good for $79.99
Checker/PartsAmerica has theirs on sale for $14.99?? Get em before they're gone!! Check the link below to check stock at your local store!

It may have, but I usually don't hang on to documentation for stuff like that for very long, so who knows where it is now. I tried searching the web and harbor freight's website with no luck and U.S. General doesn't seem to even have a website (yay! ).
I think I'll shoot harbor freight an email and see what info I can get from them. If it's too much money or too much hassle, I'll probably just go to the AC Hydraulics jack I mentioned above and just be done with it. Thanks. :)
FYI: The $14.99 jack mentioned above is showing "Not Available" now. :(

On the 14.99 stock... hit the link below to "check availability at your local store" if you have a Parts America/Checker nearby, some of them still have stock... but probably not for long!! :D
| Subie Roo | 04-08-2005 01:09 PM |
The one at PartsAmerica/Checker also works for Advance Auto Parts - it's a normal item, nothing really unusual about that price - incidentally it's identical to the Craftsman Jack that I got a couple years ago as part of a 3 piece set (jack/2 stands) - but the Craftsman Jack doesnt work anymore. My Friend has the partsamerica jack, it works decent for the money I suppose.
I think I'm gonna order the Harbor Freight one, just since I need a new Jack.

Yeah, but it already knew my zip code from previous visits there, so no go. :( Oh well.

Normal? What's normal about a $14.99 aluminum jack (and it's 3000lbs capacity just like Harbor Freight one). Sure it's a small, narrow jack, so it won't be as nice as the larger, more stable ones, but still seeing any aluminum jack for that cheap is news to me.

Looks like the $14.99 jack is gone - it was a clearance item and won't be restocked according to our local stores...
Pepboys has the "Torin Big Red" 1.5 ton Aluminum Racing jack #T84015 for $69.98 ($79.98 - $10 mail in rebate) Regularly $99.99
(Couldn't find a picture of it on the Pepboys Site, so here's the same jack from another site) http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=6970&productId=200313500&R=200313500

I bought a $40 jack thinking it couldn't be much different than anything more expensive, it ended up lasting less than 6 months before it started to fall apart. Then I got the 3000lb craftsman aluminum jack for about $100 and I think it's worth every penny. I would highly recommend it.

I bought the Torin jack from pepboys, it's crap, the jack makes a big screeching noise when jacking the car up. I returned that jack twice. I ended up buying a low profile craftsman aluminum 1.5ton jack at sears for $90.
