Jun Eyelids replica or real? part 1

Pat L.I. 03-19-2003 10:10 PM

Jun Eyelids replica or real?
Does anyone have these? either replica or the real deal? i will most likely get a set of replicas

ive seen replicas at gruppe-s for around 50 dollars, revolutions motorsports for 30 dollars and vivid racing for 69 dollars.
i believe gruppe-s and revolutions use abs plastic, and vivid says theres are fiberglass. can anyone comment on the fitment of these. I have read a few threads that talk about the replicas from gruppe-s but does anyone have vivids?
any help is appreciated. also, about how much am i looking at on a paint job for these things.
thanks
Pat

I bought mine from Revolutions and they didnt fit at all. I got all pi$$ed off and sent them flying into the corner ofr the gararge... then went and bought STi projectors instead.
ShotgunTC88 03-20-2003 02:27 AM

I bought the Revolutions too,

And they do require a little trimming to fit (you will have about a 1/8 in space between the rubber headlight ring and headlight that isnt covered)

IF I had the money, I would buy the real thing, But these are not all that bad.

hmmm revolutions is out then!! ha ha... im wondering if gruppe-s uses the same ones. I just got an email back from them saying they will have them in Midnight black perl in about a week.

my main question is about vivids,, how do they fit, they use fiberglass right.. The pic on there website looks like it fits good but i tend to think that it is a picture of a genuine jun eyelid while the title says replica. not sure though.. anyone know anything about vivids? quality? fitment?
thanks

I emailed JUN directly and they quoted me a price of around $130 (depending on the exchange rate) shiped. Do a search for there web site. In my opinion it is always better to deal with the manufacture than a vendor.Just my .02.

Pat
I have a set of the Jun eyelids. They're fiberglass and there isn't any fitment problems. They're still brand new. Let me know if you want them.

Pat
got mine from Gruppe-S and they are the same as others. The part where the rubber meets the eyelids does not match. I just wanted to try replica but I'd rather buy the real one now.
Pat L.I. 03-20-2003 11:54 AM

thanks for the replies guys hmmm maybe gruppe-s is out too!! i found some at www.mauromotorsports.com under the replica parts section.

so now im just looking for any info on the ones that are fiberglass and come from vivid... or these ones from mauromotorsports.

thanks again.

Spend the extra $$ and buy the rea JUN ones.. You will thank yourself later.
krazedant 03-20-2003 01:31 PM

Don't buy replica eyelids. Just get the real deal and save yourself the anger and the hassle when they don't fit.
Dewey 8d 03-20-2003 03:44 PM

I wouldn't count Revolutions out because I got my replicas from them and they fit okay. I just can't justify spending $150 + for two pieces of plastic, but that's just me. To me, spending $30 for some replicas that didn't fit PERFECTLY was quite alright. I love the look I got from them! :D
WR xplosive 03-20-2003 05:01 PM

I think dewey has a different explanation about the "fit" word.

Don't get me wrong dewey, Revolutions Motorsports fit but I just can't live with the fact that the side of the replica is too obvious when installed.

Here's dewey's pbase website. Look at Im001328.jpg then you can decide if you can live with this kinda flaw.

Edit: PAT LI, if you must buy from Rev Moto, I can sell you mine for $50.00 shipped, never been used and still in a bag.

free shipping within continental US only.
Dewey 8d 03-20-2003 05:16 PM

lol I wasn't saying they "fit" great or anything, but for $30 instead of $150+ I can live with it. It's completely up to the prospective buyer - I was just saying I'm happy with my purchase. :)
P03w 03-20-2003 05:22 PM

I have the exact same replicas as Dewey. I had them painted PSM silver before I realized the fitment problems. Luckily, the plastic is soft enough that with a bit of time and a Dremel, I made them fit perfectly (and didn't chip the paint at all!). I was not at all happy with the original look, and thought about chucking them, but I am very satisified with the modified version. If someone wants to host a pic, I can email one tonight or tomorrow...

yes i have seen deweys pictures before in a different thread. While i cannot justify to myself spending 150 for eyelids. and while i completely respect that this flaw in the replicas may not bother some people, it would really annoy the hell out of me and i would rather not have to know that it is there.
im still waiting on word back from www.mauromotorsports.com from an email i sent him, and if anyone has any experience with the vivid ones, im hoping because they are fiberglass they are not the same cut replicas that gruppe-s and revolutions uses. hopefully they will fit better but i would rather not go through the hassle of buying them and not liking them.

how much is the paint job on these things anyway.
thanks
Pat

Free if you got an awesome painter like me! :D

Sorry, I had to say it. I could probably get them done cheap from him if you're interested...

lol I didnt see any in my post that I said you claimed they fit "great." Sure they fit, but doesn't align well on the fender side. And you are right, it's the buyer's choice whether to buy the replica if they can live with that "flaw." It looks good up-front, but the sides I just cant live with. ;)

Pat L.I., I hope mauro doesn't have the same "flaw."

GL. :)
Dewey 8d 03-20-2003 05:45 PM

Uh oh, I hope it didn't sound like I was trying to start anything with WR xplosive! :( I wasn't offended and I didn't think you thought I said they "fit great." (did that make any sense at all? :D )

Anyway, I know they look like butt from the sides and my painter said if I want - order another set and he'll make them better (he's a perfectionist with a capital "T") but I really didn't want to wait for him. They look good from the front and I'm happy with them!

Pat L.I. - you get whatever will make you happy. If you have the $$$ for real JUN's then get them! :)

WR xplosive - I guess I meant that the replica's fit on the car period. Not good or great, but they didn't need to be completely redesigned to sit on the car. :)

Platinum03Wagon - I'd be more than happy to put up a pic for you on my Pbase page!

If you did, wow, I didnt see it coming  :D All I'm saying based on your post, I didnt say that you said they "fit great." I just think you have a different meaning for "fit" word which means if the replica can sit on top of the headlight, you considered it as "fit" and when I say "fit," I mean fit even along the headlight/fender part. Which we all know, replicas will not fit "around" the fender side.

Dewey = fit; sits right on top of the headlight even the fender side isn't aligned well with the replica

WR xplosive = fit; sits on top of the headlight and aligns well around the fender side.

:D :disco:
Dewey 8d 03-20-2003 06:49 PM

lol I guess "fit" to me means that they follow the general lines of the car. :D

Okay now I feel bad for hijacking Pat L.I.'s thread so let's find him someone that has the replica's from Vivid now! :D

Low quality pics of the Jun eye lids
Pat,

Here are so pics of the the Jun eyelids. This is what I get for a $30 digi camera. There is a small gap at the top of the fender because the eyelids moved when I closed the hood.

thanks for puttin in the effort!

Those are real. They are made of fiberglass. I wish I had a better camera. :(
ShotgunTC88 03-21-2003 03:35 AM

I have to go with Dewey on this one.

I would rather shape a $30 set of Replicas to fit "close enough"

Than to one day come out to find $150 JUN's ripped outta the front of my car............

Ok, I'll keep mine just as dewey did. :D
Pat L.I. 03-21-2003 12:51 PM

there is no gap, that i can see in those pictures. The spot i was looking for the "flaw" is where the edge meets the side of the fenter just under the hood. On the replicas it is more of a straight line down not following the line of the rounded out fender/light area.

on the fiberglass ones you can see that it is rounded and follows the line. it also looks like it fills out the area more.

edit: wrxplosive - i just realized that you have been on the thread from the beginning and already know of the "flaw" that im talkin about.

Pat
yup, I do understand what flaw you are looking for;) the flaw that I'm talking about and looking at is for my own personal satisfaction. ;) looking at this blurry pictures, I can still see the rubber. Or maybe this was meant to be like this?! Or maybe it hasnt been painted and it creates an illusion for me to see the gap :D again, the gap is for my own personal satisfaction. :D
DarkShadow 03-21-2003 02:45 PM

you can see alittle bit of the rubber because i didn't use anything to hold the eye lids down when I closed the hood. The hood put them alittle and move the eye lids doen alittle.
