Just installed VIS Cwest V2 replica part 1

wrxpeed 03-21-2004 11:26 PM

Just installed VIS Cwest V2 replica
I just got done fitting my new VIS Cwest V2 replica bumper on. It fits great, I'd totally recommend it to anyone who loves the styling of the V2, but not the price or wait. I'll post pics soon, probably tomorrow, its not painted yet. No real problems, i've never installed body components before, ran into a few snags. I'm going to bring it to a professional shop Tuesday for the rest of the prepping and painting. Only problem I ran into was the clips in the stock bumper are too big to fit into the holes to hold it on, it took a while to figure out that, but then simply drilled the holes bigger and now it fits perfect. Only other real hasle is mounting the fog lights, gonna leave that to the shop as well.

alright, couldn't wait to post them, had a late night craving, so here are some early pics of the installed bumper:

So there they are, any questions, don't be afraid to ask.
Gonna take some better shots tomorrow in the daylight.

very nice! is it urethane?
wrxpeed 03-22-2004 01:08 AM

No, neither is the authentic Cwest I believe, it is "Japenese Fiberglass".
Handsdown 03-22-2004 01:14 AM

hmm... how much? if you don't mind me asking...
wrxpeed 03-22-2004 01:18 AM

I paid $202 total from a shop here in MN, but I know the owner and he ordered this in for his WRX, but decided to go with a differant kit, so he gave me a great deal so he could get it out of the shop. Don't know any real prices, VIS's website has no prices and I haven't seen it anywhere else. Sorry

was that the price for the front bumper only? I have heard vis racing body kits fit poorly...i hoep its not the case for this kit. my friend got a full VIS body kit for his prelude, said it costed him arouned $2000 to get it paitned and put on because they needed to fabricate custom mounts for it or something

Well, you see the pics don't you, I got mine on perfectly, and I've never done body work before in my life, the pics don't lie. Got stock bumper off and new one on in under 3 hours, that includes drilling the holes slightly larger on the new bumper. Other than that it was flawless

"I have no pwofesshunal twaining at all!? sorry, i just had to! Mr. Hung's 15mins. are just about up! ;)

anyways, the VIS does look pretty good fitment & quality wise....much better than some of their other products, esp. their early replicas & body pieces (i.e. CF hoods). I used to go by VIS quite often, so I got to see all their knock offs right after they put them out.

btw. good job on doing the swap/install yourself, but 3hrs?? is it that hard to get the OEM bumper off?

Yeah kinda hard to get off, but it took us an hour to figure out the inner part of the circular clips were to big to even fit into the holes by themselves, so i go out the trusty craftsman 19.2v and bored the holes bigger to perfect size of the mounting holes on the car.

not to bust your chops, but what happens if you want to reinstall the OEM bumper (sell your car or something)? Will you have to enlarge the original mounting holes on the OEM piece too? I imagine lots of people will be getting the VIS C-West V2 bumper after seeing this thread and your pics, so this 411 might be helpful for future buyers/installers.

I believe he meant he had to enlarge the holes on the VIS bumper.

Bumper looks nice. I almost ordered one of those but it sits way too low for me and these crappy NJ roads

oops, :disco: to me! Reading is FUN-da MeNtaL!! WRXpeed's original directions/reply was clear......just brain fart on my part....4:30pm and haven't eaten lunch yet! :(

Anyways, the bumper is nice, esp considering it's probably like 1/3 the price of the C-West. If i were planning on keeping my WRX, I'd definitely get one of these babies. IMO, the V2 is the sweetest kit on the market for the 02-03's!
lawn boy 03-22-2004 07:38 PM

did you get the VIS racing s-west knockoff grille too?
dubaru 03-22-2004 09:37 PM

found a site with them for sale
www.i-m-racing.com

in the wrx area it sells that bumper as well as other vis parts...

i have never bought from i-m-racing before so i dont know much..

i think its like $295 just for the bumper... since u said that the fitment isnt a problem im probably gonna order on next week...

Yeah it sits real low, I need to order side skirts and rear lip to match it, it is like a 2-3 inch drop from stock, already put a little scrape on my driveway once today, going up and down real slow is gonna suck, and my new tein springs won't help either, probably won't be able to get up my driveway.:(

Bryan
wrx112 03-23-2004 12:04 AM

so you gonna drive around like that

Well I have probably the worst driveway you've ever seen, it's concrete so the angle is almost impossible to get up in low cars. It is considered evil amongst most of my friends, espicially the 3000gt vr-4 and my other friend's lowered volkswagen golf 1.8t. The stock Focus and RSX type-S also have problems with it, and my stock 1995 Mitsubishi GSX also needed some manuevering to get up in one piece, hell, my mom's 2003 Lexus RX300 has scraped before, and thats a damn SUV, so this situation is not new at all, seems better than the the Mitsu did.

Depends on when my tax return comes, maybe a week, could be two. hopefully sooner. And don't call me a ricer for driving around with a primered bumper, my stock bumper was heavily damaged due to going into a ditch, so i needed this on Asap.

yeah i know, but i've already gotten a bunch of crap from freinds saying it looks like all the honda ricers driving around with unpainted body kits, just setting the record straight before i get flamed on for buying a bumper, and not being able to afford the paint job right away.:)

I hear ya, the main point I was actually trying to make was take it off when its painted so the edges are painted properly :)

Definately, it's gonna get done right, this guy that has this shop is phenomenal, he usually does body work on old muscle cars, but today he had a 2002 Benz in there, he also has some old 1971 pickup that has like $12,700 worth of body work on it, and its not even done yet, to get my bumper painted, fit and finished, and blended with my fenders is gonna cost $605.00.
loudsubbie 03-24-2004 01:21 PM

Do you think this bumper would clear those yellow speed bumps? those damn things are all over the project where i live.

I really don't have any speed bumps here, and where we do they are at malls, it's not too low, about a 2-3 inch drop from stock, which already is pretty high. I'd say my stock 1995 Mitsu GSX was lower, and that was stock. WRXs seem to have a pretty high ride height.

The bumper is about 7 inches off the ground, so no problems so far with anything. Paint is going on this weeked probably, depending on amount of paycheck and when my damn tax return arrives.

wrxpeed 03-30-2004 11:37 PM

Just wanted to bump, cuz there are still people who are arguing with me that a replica Cwest V2 doesn't exist and would rather run their mouths than search on the subject.... By the way, paint should be on the way early next week, so Pics will be up ASAP to help all those out who are contimplating the looks of the Replica, but don't want the price of the real deal.

P.S. Looks killer, i may post some sunlight pics that really shows it true color before I get to painting ( no pun intended).

hey, you try to pay the tuition for a $30,000 a year university, a $350 a month car insurance, adn the car itself, all while going to college full-time and working close to full -time.

Ohh and the ditch, well that was stupid of me to do, lucky there were no trees.

yeah i'm trying, I need $2200 in april alone to pay all the stuff I have waiting; payments, tires, paint job, pay back people I owe money too. It should be cool, working my ass off at Sears, but Hey it pays the bills. Hopefully i'll be able to actually spend some money on a Utec in May/June.

I'm getting either this kit or the Chargespeed Ver 2 for my bugeye!

Looks great!
wrxpeed 04-13-2004 01:34 AM

paint is coming asap, funds still a little low, but better than the $4 I had to my name for the last 3 weeks, but payday friday, so hopefully will have enough for paint and my insurance, which went up this month to $500 to reinstate the coverage and half of last month, so this paycheck may not make the cut fully as well. But I did paint my headlights and trader trunks with a freind, so now I have the V6 STi spoiler and black headlights, looks real good.
