Ken Block's Brakes at Wild West part 1

Ken Block's Brakes at Wild West
So, I was working wild west, and in between runnings on saturday, I was able to hobble over to the area where the cars were being displayed. I noticed a very awesome set of brakes on Ken Block's car. They appeared to be STi branded 6 pot front, 4 pot rears, that fit under 15" speedlines. They were being run with really agressive pads, as they squeeked at lower speeds. They were a metalic color, and had rotors with curved slots in them.

Any body know anything about these?

Sorry if this is the wrong place for this, it is just that this was seen at a race, and these appeared to be race intended parts.

the_great_blah 01-15-2007 04:51 AM

well the new STI ra-r thats in japan has sti 6 pots on them, and i think maybe one or two other subies have them, so thats probably what you saw. i didnt know they fit under 15s though, thats sweet.
akinasdevil 01-15-2007 05:05 AM

My guess is Subaru 4 pots in front and 2 pots on the rear. Friend of mine just picked up 15' Enkei gravel wheels which barely clear his 4 pot/2 pot combo.

No, he said STi 6pots...like the STi Type RA-R

Naw, they were bigger calipers. They had three lobes on them, suggesting 6 pot fronts. The rears had two lobes, suggesting 4 pots. It was not a subaru 4 pot. But they dont look much like the ones off of the RA-R. They are smaller then those. Remember, they fit under 15" speedlines.

I have a hunch. Any body have pics of the gravel spec Impreza WRC's brakes?

I have a J-Tuned magazine from the UK at home, with the new Prodrive Group N Spec C...and it has the STi/AP Racing 6pots under 15" Speedline wheels on it. I just can't find any pics online. The RA-R ones are also AP Racing.

Haha, I don't have a scanner...and I'm at work right now. But, when I get home in the a.m. I will try to take a digital pic of the magazine pics and post for you?

That will rock long and hard. Thank you!!

pictures of those brakes can be found on rally.subaru.com, i think somewhere in X-Games gallery. As I understood from Christian E. back when X-games were on and those cars were brand new, those are the newly homolgated group N brakes, so, according to FIA regulations, that state that on gravel group N cars should have 15" wheels, they do fit under 15" inch wheels :)
the_great_blah 01-15-2007 06:54 AM

Alrighty, thanks much!

Yep, I think they are running the AP Racing stuff.
WRXedUSA 01-15-2007 10:28 AM

As stated above, those are the new AP STI catalogue brakes.
OBShahn 01-15-2007 12:36 PM

As someone stated before the SRT-USA cars are running N12 homolgulation brakes.

If you can find the homolgulation specifications online you can find the part number then all you need is a parts counter guy with some knowledge and you too can have the same brakes. They are either straight up Subaru or STi parts that can be ordered by anybody if they only have the part number and $$$ (subject to availability, although since the homolgulation is now not the newist hotness on the block parts should be backstocked finally). Welcome to the wonderful world of Group N!
bjorn240 01-15-2007 12:59 PM

New Gr. N brakes. You can order them from VtCar. The full kit is plug and play on 05+ STis, but the bad news is it's about half the price of a new STi, too.

$4500 front
$2300 rear

Perhaps these are the ones that include technology developed by Hawker Siddeley for the VTOL Harrier jet. They allow you to maintain a higher vertical altitute over longer distances, without the use of Adobe software.

;)
the_great_blah 01-15-2007 02:17 PM

Hrm, well these are the brakes. I figured that they were $$$, but that is much more then i figured.

Christian,

I don't have the specs (read to lazy to go find and download them then read the eleventy pages), are those also water cooled as well?
Kostamojen 01-15-2007 07:21 PM

Is that cost or MSRP?
patr 01-15-2007 07:36 PM

Christian - Since you guys are using this newer Gr. N brake, can you have VtCar sell me the older style set up that use 5x114.3 PCD for hella cheap??? :D I hate the fact that I can't run proper 15" gravel wheels on my STi because of the bling blang Brembos...
WRXedUSA 01-15-2007 08:49 PM
Is that cost or MSRP?
That is what they are listed at in the STI catalog. I assume that that is MSRP of course.
Kostamojen 01-15-2007 09:25 PM

Ya, I'm curious about the dealer "cost" price... Probably 20% less than that.

Thanks Pat.

I couldn't remember and not having built one or having a set to go look at I was looking for the easy answer.
pjhe 06-20-2007 03:45 PM
