Milwaukee Tour

I'll be there, who else?
I'll be working tech friday all day, driving a black 02 wrx in STX the rest of the time.
If anybody's interested we can head to summerfest in the evening either/both nights for music/fun, otherwise just normal hanging out too.

What is this event about, obviously motorsports(autox?) but...sorry

It's the SCCA National Tour making its stop in Milwaukee. (http://www.scca.com)
It's a 2 day auto-x where hotshoes from outside of the local region come to compete. The best time from Sat, and the best time from Sun are added together to get your final time. You run a different course configuration each day.
By competing in a National Tour, you are eligible to participate in the SCCA National Championships.
That help? :)

If you wanna go, you absolutely can. I haven't decided if I'm leaving Thur. or Fri. though. I have a room with 1 king size. ;) That'd cut down on the co-drive fees.

I guess I was a bit short on detail there.
The surface is asphault if anybody is wondering, its pretty smooth, some slight elevation changes (nothing more than probably 5-10 feet overall difference).

I'll be in Indianapolis that weekend. A big disappointment to miss this event, but I'll have fun drinking and spectating the GP with some family. Good luck to you guys.

I might go since it is an hour away instead of 6 like the other closest.
I'd need to dig up a codrive since my 125 still doesnt' work yet.

So, to the Milwaukee guys.
Is the Best Western Woods View Inn, 5501 National Ave., in a decent location?

To do what? sleep? It's fine. I can't exactly picture it but its' gotta be close to Miller park. Not very new. Lots of old corner bars, auto garages. Brookfield would be an upgraded area but 5-10 minutes away vs. right there.

Thanks, I've already switched to Hampton Inn in Brookfield. After I realized how close it was to the stadium, I wondered how upscale the area around it was. Not saying I'm upscale. I'd just like to maintain the windows in my van. :) And car if there isn't a secure area at Miller Park for the weekend.

Unless milwaukee hires security there will not be a secure area at the site. I wouldn't leave anything there unlocked.
Nothing will be too far away from the site if you are near Milwaukee.
I drive in from Madison and it takes me an hour and that is 70 miles away.
The site is very easy to get too and the pit area is nice and big so people won't be cramped.

So....
Are the aiport hotels relatively safe?

You should be fine. Mostly blue collar/mixed population around that area. It probably has more options than around Miller Park, but you'll have more room for stuff/trailers in the Parking lots in Brookfiled.
If it was my stuff- I would look up Courtyard by Marriot. You can park the stuff out of the way from the main road if you wish and it's on the back side of an office park. Really quiet. There's a couple of new hotels in New Berlin that would be good choices like that too.

I'll be there driving an 06 WRX in DS as well my girlfriend in DSL if we get her scca stuff straightened out in time. It's unfortunate my SM car is not done, but that's life.
I would opt for the hotels in the Brookfield/New Berlin areas. The airport is a little far from Miller Park whereas Brookfield/New Berlin are 10 minutes away at the most. Look for hotels on Moorland Rd.
I'm certainly up for doing something on Friday/Sat nights. I wouldn't mind doing a Subaru thing at my shop if people were interested in cooking out there.

Another area for hotels is Glendale, which is north of downtown, on Port Washington Rd.
There are a few safe, cheap hotels. It's right off the interstate, about 10-15 minutes from the stadium.
I'm not driving, but I'd head down for a cookout at your shop, Phil.

I think a cookout at Phil's shop could be fun.
The Sheraton I believe is the hotel in brookfield where somebody shot up the church they were attending a couple years ago, its right off the freeway. That one is on Bluemound Rd, which intersects Moorland.

Josh and I are going to be staying at the Airport Clarion Hotel. Anyone have any recommendations for nearby places to take the wife and fiance for neat things to see friday or saturday nights? (preferrably cheap, bill due dates and payday week stagger came at a BAD time for the Milwaukee trip :( )

Results? Weather? How'd everyone do?
I saw the Pax results on SCCA Forums... what's with most of the top people running Hoosiers? Was it concrete? Asphalt?
Inquiring minds want to know!!! :D

The site is asphalt and I think the A6s are very good tires. I didn't drive all that well but did better on Sunday than Saturday and ended up in 6th in DS. I ran the 2nd fastest time on Sunday I believe, but was still about .7 behind Bart Borowski's ITR. Chris Fenter (FTD) and Jay Luikart (thechickencow) took 1-2 in STX.
The weather was hot, the course was very good imho, one of the better ones I've runat Miller Park. Lots of rubber layed down on the surface with the heat.

I concur with Phil. The event was very good all around and the course was challenging. STX and STS ran first heat so the grip level was not on par with some of the other heats. I am hoping that impacted the PAX...
The only complaint I heard about the A6's was from the Borowski's. They almost trashed a brand new set of fronts in 6 runs. It was an ITR so take it with a grain of salt. However, Miller Park has never been known for being hard on tires..?
The EM civic smoked everyone on PAX by several seconds, that thing is hooked up!

Definitely a fun course. I ended up stressing out way too much for my first national and choked on saturday. Sunday went much better, one of the other IA region guys gave me some good advice, told me to just think of it like a big regional event and have fun.
I really need to get out to some other surfaces, I know I left a good amount of time out there simply because I never felt comfortable on the asphalt as opposed to the concrete I'm used to. Oh well, I guess I can't complain too much about being 1 out of the trophies at my first national :)
I think I may need to make it up to milwaukee sometime for one of their regional events :)

I had a good time, this was my first Tour as well. I was bummed to drive with less grip than we normally get when running both morning and evening - running 1st heat left us with the low grip morning runs both days which was even for us STS/STX competitors but not so good for overall PAX.
Great job to Chris for the STX win, it was good to have him raise the bar. I'm looking forward to trying out the Hankooks to see how I like them and see if I think they're faster than the falkens I'm running.
I wasn't getting great rotation out of the car either day, although my car is unaligned and the rears are still at around -1.3 degrees camber with 0 toe which I plan to change.
Fun meeting everybody though, great weekend!

What's the story with the EP Civic? HART is the sponsor, and the times were outstanding. Is this a new car to watch for in Topeka? Did anyone catch the car weight at impound? I am surprised to see a fairly heavy McStrut car go that fast...

The HART Civic was at Peru as well, and I've gotta say, the fab work on it is pretty sweet, and it sounds rather like a sport bike. "It screams" is a bit of an understatement. It was maniacally loose at Peru, apparently they've gotten it dialed in a bit more since then...

Thanks Aaron, and good job at your first National Tour event! This should have been great practice for Nationals, hopefully you will be able to head out to Topeka.
It would be great if you could come up to some of the Milwaukee region events, they are typically a blast. Let us know if you plan on coming up, that way we can look for you.

I spent the weekend discussing the camping situation at HPT with some of the other IA Region guys, to make the trip affordable. My wife never chimed in with "no, we're not going", so it's a good possibility at this point ;)
