keep an eye out for Hayden. don't forget that part of his struggle at the beginning of the season was due to sorting of the new frame/setup for the 880cc bike. as for pedrosa, just not a big fan. especially after his outta control dive bomb on his teammate that almost cost Hayden the championship. but, above all else, you can't expect Rossi not to win the championship, especially after struggling all season and just missing out. Vale is truly amazing! And he's still looking to make the move to WRC in the near future, which would be awesome!!!

Gotta love the new Fiat/Yamaha combo. go Rossi!
My darkhorse pick for many wins this year is Capirosi. Stoner will out qualify occasionally, but Loris will be more consistent.

My predictions for 2007 season:
1. Rossi will win. Question it not.
2. Hayden will mount the worse defense of a title since KR JR. Moaning about the team and the support he's getting will start after about race 5.
3. In at least one race a Ducati will run out of gas.
4. Casey Stoner will lead many GPs put will shred his tires and drop back.
5. The 'slow but safe' 800s will beat the lap record at every track.

I hope you are right. But he definitely seems to be struggling for speed. Suppose time will tell.

I won't spoil it but I'm glad to see the D'antin boys finish strong...for a privateer team. :D
I've got $5 on Vale winning it all in '07 w/a friend of mine. :p
Can't wait until Laguna...tickets are purchased, flight is set up.

Yep, pretty much sums it up. But again...DAMN the power of the Duc on the front straight. Seems like the others will be playing catch up in that department.

Dude!
Not sure if this is news and has been posted already. i was just watching wind tunnel and there is talk about having a MotoGP round at Indy but running the course CCW with a left hand turn (into the infield) at the end of the front straight and not using the oval turn 1. Also if this new config is approved that the F1 guys would run it that was too.

The Ducati has some awesome power. If they can get the handling on it as good as the Yammer, it could be a really rough season for Rossi.

The straighline speed of the Ducati's and the Honda's vs Rossi's Yamaha was amazing. Hayden was aweful in this race - outclassed by Pedrosa and struggling to 8th when he started in 9th (he's lucky to not have been 10th or worse).
| artkevin | 03-12-2007 09:45 AM |
Great race. Hopefully Hayden can come to grips quickly. I don't expect him to defend his WC but I hope he finshes in the top 3 in points at years end.
| jamesohoh7 | 03-12-2007 10:05 AM |
Hayden seemed to be behind the curve for this race, and I don't recall much of his off-season testing going terribly well (a few bright spots). Hope that gets hammered out, but I suspect there's less support for him at HRC vs. Pedrosa.
Also, just saying that Hayden will whine about lack of HRC support doesn't mean that's not happening in reality.

+1 ... as well, Repsol has actually said in the past that the only reason they're w/Honda currently is for Pedrosa.
That's not to say Hayden gets no support, but there's a conflict of interest at work. Someone said it earlier, but they had Hayden testing a new chassis last season while in the midst of the title-battle. I'd bet Yamaha didn't/doesn't do that to Rossi when they could have a factory test-rider do that kind of grunt work. It's one thing to have a top rider getting the latest and greatest parts that may fail or be funky (clutches, for example), but another to have them doing development work for a completely different spec bike that's not going to be used until next season. Just my view, of course. I can't say if it happens a lot in MotoGP, just doubt that it does.

+1 for what Hotrodguru said. For some reason, I don't want to see Pedrosa succeed...not sure why though. Perhaps because he just seems like a robot.
I'd love to see Nicky go team KR if they could keep Honda power in '08. If he could bring Red Bull as a title sponsor, it'd be cool. Hopefully team KR will be around all season. My friend mentioned that KR might have money problems to run the whole year. :(
Did anyone notice the telemetry between Stoner and Rossi? Casey was on the brakes a lot more and was slower to get on the throttle in comparison to Vale.
Yamaha's Brivio: we were too cautious
Fiat Yamaha boss Davide Brivio believes his team were too cautious in their approach to the first race of the season in Qatar. Although Yamaha were tipped as favourites to dominate the opening race, it was Ducati's Casey Stoner who took victory, upstaging seven-time world champion Valentino Rossi to score his maiden win in MotoGP.
Stoner used the Ducati's impressive power advantage to beat Rossi with a 2.8 second advantage. Brivio said he was impressed by the Italian bike's performance, but claimed Yamaha had been too cautious in the race.
"We were too cautious and ended up with a lot of fuel on board," Brivio was quoted as saying by Gazzetta dello Sport. "It's the Japanese mentality: they did thousands of calculation, but then took almost no risks at all.
"The Ducati was impressive. Taking for granted that everything is within the rules - because you can't think otherwise and in any case I believe the stewards did their checks - everyone in the paddock, not just us, is wondering how they managed to find that sort of performance. "We must understand how they made their engine go so quick, and we must try to close the gap."
Yamaha's racing department boss Masao Furusawa admitted he was surprised by Ducati's impressive form. "When I saw what was happening on the straight, my brain awoke abruptly," he said. "Ducati have a small factory, but they've worked very well. I haven't told our engineers to work faster, but I told them to re-analyse the data in depth.
"We have some evolutions which we'd like to take to Jerez, but I don't know whether we'll have time to use them in the race."

Don't want to spoiler it in case it hasn't aired in the US yet, but suffice to say with tight fields ok, no one can get away, the problem is no one can catch up, either.

It was pretty much a snoozer for P1-3, but the next 5 or 6 places were pretty tight. Barring a wreck or a mechanical, I don't see Rossi finishing off of the podium this year and while he'll be challenged each race, it will be by several different people so he'll end up walking away with the championship. Hayden won't even be the top finishing American this year.

This is only my second year really following the series so I want to ask the guys who know what they think is the root of Nicky's problems adapting to the smaller bikes?
Hayden gets help from older brother
By Glenn Freeman Tuesday, April 3rd 2007, 13:22 GMT
Nicky Hayden's brother Tommy has been trying to help the world champion adapt to riding his 800cc bike after his difficult start to the season.
The American is already 28 points behind Valentino Rossi in the standings after just two races, and his brother, who races in the AMA Superbike series in America, visited him at the post-event test in Spain last week.
"I have to say a big thanks to Tommy for coming over and trying to help me adjust to the new style needed to ride the 800," said Hayden.
"To have somebody to talk to about a few things, there's nobody better than my big brother."
Hayden also praised his Repsol Honda team, and said that he feels they are completely behind him as he tries to get back to the front of the field.
"I really believe that the team and HRC are behind me," he said. "They want results just as bad as me, and we're going to get things straight."
He came from 'big + heavy' (relatively speaking) superbikes, and supposedly the 4-stroke GP bikes are now relatively 'easy' to ride so to speak (traction control and so on) so my guess is that it's not the class/size, per se, but that Honda is still throwing a bunch of prototype parts at him to race on.
The rumor mill last year said he was always having to run on whatever the current prototype 'go-fast' bits were that week (frames/clutches/susp), so... never much consistency race to race for him whereas Pedrosa was on a relatively 'stable' platform, development-wise (only small'ish changes race-to-race). Sure, GP racing is all about prototypes and so on, but testing clutches out on race day doesn't sound like the way to win. It was said that some of his troubles fading late in races last year were that the latest-n-greatest clutches he was 'testing' would give up.
FWIW: I'm only repeating what I've read on various forums, so add your grains of salt as needed :) That could all just be some apologist info put forth on his behalf for all I -really- know.
