My hunt for a decent reclining seat that will shed some lbs.

I'm having one hell of time here. I was set on Sparco Torino's, then found out that at 37lbs + 15 sliders/brackets- I'm right close there w/ the oem WRX seat @ 55lbs.
The Recaro SRD's looked good at ~ 30 lbs (+sliders/brackets), but have found out through searching these seats weren't designed for me- 6' 195lbs.
I've looked at Corbeau, but the reviews I've seen haven't been to favorable.
Surely there is a seat that fits the bill- reclinable (a must unfortunately), relatively light 25-30lbs (+sliders/brackets) and of good, long lasting quality.
Any suggestions would be appreciated- thanks.

From what I've read the STi seats aren't wonderfully bolstered, many have gone to a JDM seat. I don't think there is much for weight savings there either.
I guess I didn't know the US STi came w/o side air bags- interesting.

Actually the SRDs are replaced by Speed, which has improved build quality.
Other possible choices include MOMO or Cobra. The new Cobra Misano has gotten good reviews. Although it's very $$$.

sparco made the only carbon fiber reclinable seats .. they are light and can be found on the enzo..

Are you sure its carbon fiber, not carbon kevlar? I didn't know they made seats in CF

Carbon fiber seat-backs.

The Misano looks good, no weight posted (I emailed them), but very pricey!
How is the Momo quality to say Sparco/Recaro? I found this seat that looks (by the chart) to fit a little larger guy. It was also pretty light @ 25lbs. Price is decent too- ~ $450/seat (not including harware).

Not sure. I'm going to take all the measurements on the oem seats that they provide in the seat charts. I think comparing the #'s I'll have a little better idea on how things compare to a seat I'm used to. Will also answer the question on clearance issues.

The JDM STi seats are really nice and light compared to the us ones. Well bolstered too.

Just have some custom rails fabed for an aftermarket seat out of aluminum or titanium :p

Would aluminum be up to the task for brackets structuraly? Titanium in that quantity I can safely rule out (reads lotto ticket-damn!).

The reason I went with non-reclining seats was to save weight. The wife hates them, but that means she's in the car less. I dropped 60-70 pounds. Most of the reclining seats are heavy.

At that point isn't it a much larger weight savings? Something along the lines of
Total weight savings (in lbs) = (60 or 70) + wife weight
:)

But I don't count the wife's weight anyway as she doesn't go to the track. Trying to put the car on a diet for handling reasons as well as acceleration.

My wife won't be in the car any less- it's her daily driver:) . I'd be happy w/ a 20lb loss in weight, especially if it resulted in a better bolstered seat.
Got a response back from subesport on the Misano- ~ 24lbs.
I'd like to see/seat in the Momo SR2's- good looking seat, light (for a recliner) and not badly priced.

Just replace the passenger seat with a Lawn Chair.
I don't remember the site off the top of my head (which is terrible, because it's a GREAT site) but they have the Misano's on there, and I recall the seats weighing 24 pounds or something.
$1300 each is way to steep to save 3 pounds over the Torino's.
Edit: typo

24lbs is correct on the Misano's, Torino's are 37lbs though- 13 lbs savings/side.
Still you are correct too expensive, that's why I'm leaning towards the RS2.
BTW I measured up the WRX seats to compare #'s w/ the other seats. The widest point on the WRX seat is 20.75", the RS2 is 22.5 ~ 1" wider /side, thus I don't think the bolsters will have any problem w/ the B pillar. The seat length front to rear is 21.5" WRX, 22.0 RS2- prettu close. The overall height is 36" for the WRX/ same RS2. the overall width of the bottom portion of the seat is 19.75" WRX, 20.5" RS2, the portion between lower bolsters is 14.5" WRX, 16.5" RS2.
Fairly similar in measurement, still need to sit my hinny in one though.

Good call, I thought the Torinos were 27 pounds, not 37.
The Misano's look comfy as HELL though.
With the wider spot between the bolsters on the RS2, it may have been designed for a slightly... more robust... individual.
I am having a hard time finding a seat for my relatively skinny frame. 6'1" and 150lbs makes it pretty hard to find racing seats that hold me well.
I really want to sit in a Torino, and see how they feel. The 94 Turbo seats don't have large enough bolsters. The cloth is nice though, pretty grippy.
In the latest SCC, they said new versions of the Misano were released. One is slightly heavier (28lbs IIRC) but $400 cheaper ($800 per seat). I don't have the magaine here with me right now to double check. It's a seat I may check out when the time comes for replacement.

Bigsky, here's another option you can look into:

Sti factory sport seat, IIRC it's based on the Recaro but with aluminum chasis? Should be lighter. Hard to source one though.
Why don't you get two setups? Like two adjustable sparcos or recaros for everyday use, and one light CF racing seat for canyon fun/motorsports? You can rip off all the other seats.

Those look interesting- hard to source hasn't been a deterent for thus far;) . When you say factory sport seat- are these upgrades? Or were they on a certain model/trim?
Unfortuantely everything is so far for me- autox 150 miles one way, track 1,000 miles one way, canyons close though:D . I haul quite a bit of stuff and my wife ususally goes an extra seat wouldn't be real practical.
Like I said I'm not looking to trim a ton, 20lbs/side would be great- especially w/ a little better bolsted seat to boot.

Also I looked at a SCC today and couldn't find any seat articles- I think it was March04?

Was it the issue with the 350Z on the cover?
They were in the SEMA article IIRC. It might have been in the USCC first issue.
I'll check when I go home next (which won't be for a while, lol, sorry).

I didn't pay attention to the cover- I was looking for a seat article, could have been a SEMA article. Whenever you get the chance, just curious on the "cheaper" Misano- I don't need leather. A similar seat w/ a different covering would be worth exploring.
Thanks

I've only heard anecdotal info on Momo seats (good by the way), I'd like to hear from someone who is actually running them. BTW the RS2 is identical to the street racer (don't care much for the name:rolleyes: ) except that the SR has a tilt return feature that the RS2 doesn't.
