suby ej25 08-21-2001 11:46 AM

i'd like to know where to get them too.....too bad it would be hard as hell trying to differentiate the needles if you got indiglo's
ivbdn 08-21-2001 02:17 PM

Man I'd love to have a set of those things  ! If anybody finds out, please let us know ASAP!
Cool Hand 08-23-2001 08:08 AM

Anyone? pleeeease....
s-one 08-23-2001 08:28 AM

what the heck

why doesnt the rest of the gauges light up ... why only the needles light up ?
F/S-LTD 08-23-2001 09:43 AM

Think Marketing...

You want the needles to stand out, so you disconnect the gauge lights in hopes buyers won't think about whether the needles match the rest of your dash or clash.

I hope you can pick the colour of the needles. What if you have red dash lights. You'd want orange/amber needles or something like that. Green lights = yellow needles and so on and so on...
Cool Hand 08-23-2001 10:31 AM

heres one with illumination:
wcbjr 08-23-2001 10:44 AM

My lord, someone find a place to get those!
nikkicalves 08-23-2001 12:14 PM

Man I would spend a lot for those. Anybody??
adeck 08-23-2001 03:47 PM

They would give me a headache, starring at them at night!
neurotic 08-23-2001 07:21 PM

Holy crap, those are sweet. If I knew where to get something like that for my car, I would be ordering a set. The stock gauge cluster looks a bit boring I think.
Silky 08-23-2001 07:24 PM

we're asking the wrong club... we need to ask the honda/acura boys... they have a greater neon/indiglo heritage and should have our question answered within the hour.
pDXZ 08-23-2001 07:26 PM

not just sick, but techno sick.
Bankheist 08-23-2001 10:51 PM

GIMME GIMME GIMME GIMME!!!!
Vigorous 08-23-2001 10:54 PM

TOO SWWEEEETTTTT!!!!!
I would definitely get those.

ATTENTION VENDORS: GET THESE!
Vigorous 08-23-2001 10:57 PM

Found the auction on ebay.
They don't fit Subaru's. At least not this brand.

Not made for our car yet, but if we bug them enough maybe they'll make it Import Intelligence
Bry.
ylexot 08-24-2001 08:13 AM

Excellent find BrysImpreza! It is made for our car...I think. If you read the site it says:

The IntelliGlow needle kits will require 2 things to work with your vehicle.
1. Your vehicles gauges must have needles made of a Lexan based material. We do not provide new needles with the kit so the factory needles must be compatible.
2. Your vehicle must run on a 12 volt system with a negative chassis.

I am pretty sure new age (WRX) is compatable, don't know about the GC8.

And they have colors too! (blue , red, and green)
Bankheist 08-24-2001 08:39 AM

I believe the needles on both gens of the impreza are made of Lexan.

What happens with the needle is that the light behind the dash emmitts into the hub of the needle... it then sends the light into the red needle.. and the light is displayed as red.

Currently, and this is the main reason why I'm not selling blue gauges is due to the fact that I developed a way that makes the numbers and gauges that you read INDIGO blue.

Unfortunatelly... I got everything so damn dark... that the light that get to the needles have become very dull and not easy to read at night.

I noticed this worst at the track and my redline hit me a few times... I couldnt see the needles for redlin

I'm working on it currently (not the needles).

PhantomOG 08-24-2001 11:49 AM

looks nice. i want. anyone gonna try this on a WRX??
ylexot 08-24-2001 12:15 PM

Update

I emailed back and forth with Import Intelligence and it should work on the new age Impreza (WRX). I ordered a set (~$70) and will post results when I install them. From what Bankheist said, it sounds like it should work for the GC8s as well. Here's the conversation:

Q: do your current needles light up at night? are they orange or white during the day?
A: they light up at night and are yellow during the day

Q: Are they a solid yellow or are they clear with a yellow on the back of the needle?
A: Clear with yellow on back.

Reply: The needle kit will work with your cars, thanks for the info, you have been a tremendous help.
Please post on the Impreza board also.

Bankheist - yours sounds cool, but not what I'm looking for. My "color scheme" is black/red, so I like the glowing red needles I'll get with this system. And I don't want red numbers and lines...makes it difficult to distinguish redline.

I knew you guys would come through ....thanks bry.
totoherbs 08-24-2001 08:43 PM

woohoo make sure you tell us how they turned out and post pics when u get them.
Silver_Bell_WRX 08-25-2001 02:27 AM

Those are sweet. I wouldn't mide having a set of the blue ones.
Bauhaus 08-25-2001 02:03 PM

<-- get it?

When I was test driving cars, this feature looked so sweet in the Audi TT, color was red. Didn't even notice it through many test drives because it was always in the daytime.
These look a little to "nuclear" for my tastes, but thats probably just the pics.
Frankly, I'd just like the white gauges!
JenisonWRX 08-27-2001 06:55 PM

got a response from the makers of the guages
They will work with the impreza, the EBay link on there is one of our customers re-selling the kit for profit.

Subject: Subaru WRX?

I noticed you dont have any for the Subaru!
With the increase in popularity because of the WRX...I think you really need to make these for Subaru.

I own a WRX...and I want that kit! Myself as well as many other Subaru owners like the look of your product.

u think i would be able to get this for my 97 subaru impreza L, iwould see why not there just needles right?? let me no thxs greg
westy66 08-28-2001 10:41 AM

YES!! Rexers need these... our dash's are very blah.... i would jump all over these. at the very least i want some white faced gauges. im hoping someone comes out with something with "WRX" on the gauge instead of "Impreza." something a bit more "sporty" if i may say so.

Bob
BrysImpreza 08-28-2001 11:42 AM

Hey Gride, I'm prolly just gonna pick up a set to see if they fit my MY 97 L. If so I'll give you a shout out, I'm pretty good at making anything work.
Bry.
PhantomOG 08-28-2001 12:15 PM

anyone install this yet on a WRX?? i want to see pics please!

also, how hard was the install?
ylexot 08-29-2001 09:35 AM

cditto - I think I have you beat! :D Mine shipped yesterday and PA->MD shouldn't take long. I'm guessing I'll have them tomorrow or Friday and installed on Saturday (hopefully).

BTW, this is my 7th mod and the car's only 3 months old

Not that we're in competition or anything :)

Hopefully both our mods will go smooth...I had one that didn't.

nikkicalves 08-29-2001 10:06 AM

Mine are on the way. I will let everyone know about the results.

install issues

Please post and let me know if you get yours installed before me and how it went. I would like to prevent any problems that others have already addressed.
BrysImpreza 08-29-2001 11:22 AM

I dunno if they'll work for mine, I have solid white needles that do not light up at night, so these prolly won't work for mine huh?
Bry.
neurotic 08-29-2001 01:05 PM

Don't forget to get a buncha pics of your installs, I can't wait to see how they turn out.

Concern with Green backlighting

I've ordered these and they are on their way...in blue.

My concern is how the green backlight will look. What does everyone else think? Is there any easy way to replace the green backlight?
ylexot 08-30-2001 12:37 PM

Yeah, I noticed that after I ordered the red. I'll look at it when I install the needles.

I remember seeing that someone changed it to blue, so I'm pretty sure the color can be changed. Hopefully I can do red odo and white numbers. WIth the red needles, it should be nice. For the moment, it will look like a Christmas tree :D

As usual, yes I will post findings and pictures when I get them.

Micah
Cool Hand 08-30-2001 06:28 PM

my last car...honda accord, the lightbulbs for the gauge cluster had little green condoms  over each light bulb. i simply just peeled the green rubbers off and i had white illumination. if you have a paint that adheres to glass you could re-color your bulbs whatever color you wanted. (assuming that subaru uses the same high-tech colored condoms)
chuckles 08-30-2001 09:54 PM

ok, i need these....... do they fit on the GC8's and how tough an install are these bad boys?

???
BrysImpreza 08-30-2001 10:22 PM

Chuck and Gride, they won't work for our cars, we need to have needles that already light up at night, that we don't have. :(
Bry
elemental 08-30-2001 11:33 PM

on the 98s, the needles have a red paint over them on the top, what color would the needles shine through that as? off the sides (which is probably not painted) it'd be blue but would the blue pass through this paint or no and what color would it be? anyone know?
Silver_Bell_WRX 08-31-2001 02:49 AM

I pulled my guage cluster out the other day just for something to do. The green back lighting is just green rubber over the bulb as someone stated. The bulbs are smaller then bulbs that I have seen before. I am trying to see if I can find colored ones anywere to change the color of the stock back lighting.
I like the looks of the blue needles but from the looks of it the are not clear lexan. They are an orange lexan which might be a problem with doing the color change on the WRX needles.
ylexot 08-31-2001 12:58 PM

I wonder if they make some that change colour, so that wheny oure redlining, they turn red, or when youre close to redline, they are yellow. that would be kinda cool. or they could do that with the speedometer. the faster you go, the brighter it gets, and the more pure the light gets(whiter).
ylexot 09-01-2001 01:41 PM

Right now they only have red, blue, and green. They are LED's so I don't think they can make color changing ones. I guess intensity changing could be done, but I'm not smart enough to be able to do that one :p
