Who still loves Colin McRae? part 1

Eric SS 03-10-2002 03:53 AM

Who still loves Colin McRae?

He is still my favorite driver and I honestly don't watch where Solberg or Makinnen finishes (or Burns Last year) compared to McRae. Who here still roots for McRae?

Eric
tifosi77 03-10-2002 12:49 PM

colin is stil the man and perhaps the best rally driver in the world. If Ford would just get a little more reliable he would have been champ twice already.
johnfelstead 03-10-2002 01:12 PM

i will always support colin, he put the UK back on the map in terms of drivers in the WRC and he is an amazing tallent.

i will always support subaru too, they are a great team.

hell. i pretty much support everyone in the WRC.
DuckWRX 03-10-2002 01:36 PM

I still pull for Subaru. Especially now that Burns is gone, never liked him. But you gotta love Colin. Always good to see him do well.

I think he drives too aggresively because he's over confident. He crashes often, which is to be expected, but he crashes real bad alot of the time. I wouldnt be surprised to see Nicky Grist jump ship sometime in the near future. There's a reason he's called McCrash. But it's more how cocky he is that bothers me. I like the level headed, cooler, more modest approach of Makkinen.
mykrrrr 03-10-2002 06:34 PM

I love the last option... :D GC pride baby!!!

I think Colin is one of the best WRC drivers in history. IMO, he's finally toning down the 1st place or crash attitude he's had in the past. I think he can do it this year. :D

I'm hoping it's either Tommi or Colin this year!!! El Matador would be a nice surprise as well. :)

ninrex 03-11-2002 12:05 AM

Well, I've felt kind of neutral about the guy, neither for nor against, but after the bad streak he's had at Rally France you've got to feel a bit for the guy. Ouch! I hope he wins it next year, although I'd be afraid to even enter again if I were him.
RebelINS 03-11-2002 12:57 AM

I think that Colin is a great driver, but I would have to agree with y2k4door, Colin's arrogant attitude always bothers me. I really like Burns, he is a good driver, seems more down to earth, I think that he would have won in 2000 if he didn't as much car trouble that year.

To me it's like cheering for your favorite team in any sport. It doesn't really matter who's on the team, I'm still loyal to them.
I absolutely can't stand Burns, but I'm glad he won the champ. last year in our team's car! I like Colin, but I'm ecstatic that we have Tommi. :D

PS - I won't take too much offesne to the last choice, as I waited for the WRX before selling my non-enthusiast Forester.;)
orbit03 03-11-2002 09:28 AM

I still pull for him as long as he finishes behind any Subarus. :)

That wreck yesterday in Corsica look a little bone jarring. Yikes.

 at the last choice. FWIW, I used to have a '96 AWD L before the WRX.

I'd have to disagree with this statement Wes. Colin seems alot more humble than Burnsy. Richard seems alot more whiney than Colin.

IMO, Colin would have been 2001 champion if he wouldn't have cut that corner in Rally GB. :(

Thug 03-11-2002 10:13 AM

I dont really like either of them, but I certainly wouldnt say Colin is humble. He talks trash to Burns all the time. Supposedly even right before stage starts trying to psych him out.
TOMMY B 03-11-2002 10:40 AM

Colin, Put Subaru on the Map...... in 90,91,92 in the Old Legacy, I pull for him all the time he was Alway the under-dog in my eye's.

Burns looks and acts just like a Chick......I think he a perfect for driving the Pug he can hang around all the other team members that act like Chicks............. I think he's a Woman Traped in a Mans body...........

RALLY ON ///////////////////
brainrally 03-11-2002 10:58 AM

Well, I'm relatively new to WRC. Only started watching last year. But the drivers I liked were Petter Solberg, Tommi Makinen, and Carlos Sainz. Even when Tommi was driving for Mitsu, I thought he was cool. Seems like a nice fella.

But I'd like to see Subaru blow Peugeot out of the Maker's cup. :p

(Doh, I'm not that new. I just got WRX on the brain. )

EDIT: Fixed "WRX" to read "WRC"
STORER 03-11-2002 12:01 PM
Well, I'm relatively new to WRX
You must be new, it's called the WRC:D

I like Colin, but I would like Subaru to do well also. Bottom line, who ever wins (driver/codriver or manufacturer) desirves it. I have respect for all the WRC drivers (even Burns when he isn't making excuses).

Steve
FlooredSubaru 03-11-2002 03:56 PM

I am for everyone in wrc i would like to see Petter do a little better then he has in the past he is one of my favorites but i also am a big fan of Burns and i rember being mad at McRae for leaving subaru but i always figure that they change teams for good reasons when they do.

I also really love rally becouse i think that the drivers are more humble then any other sport.

I dont understand how Burns is a CHICK.... I'm pretty sure he can out drive ANYBODY on this fourm.(and if you think other wise shouldn't you be on TV insted of him) and is just kicking alot more @$$ on tarmac now that he is off pirelli tires.

I'm starting to like the nascar i mean Speed channel.

Im getting a little tired of people here ripping on WRX drivers........
jblaine 03-11-2002 04:39 PM

Seriously. GC vs. GD camp garbage is so lame. All you do is give GD owners (who very often respect and LOVE the GCs) reason to dislike you. Wack wack wack.
Thug 03-11-2002 04:43 PM

What are you guys talking about? Who's ripping on WRX drivers?
This thread is about WRC, I dont know what thread you guys are reading.
jblaine 03-11-2002 04:54 PM

Poll option 5: "I drive a 2002 WRX and didn't know McRae ever drove for Subaru!"
Thug 03-11-2002 05:46 PM

So he made a joke about a stereotype that is generally true. In fact Id be willing to bet that less than 10% of WRX owners know that Colin drove for Subaru. It's a joke, who really cares? He's not starting a war. I laughed.
jblaine 03-11-2002 05:49 PM

It's a stereotype, and a jab. Whatever, it's not a big deal, and I'm not sobbing at home about it. It's just unnecessary and generally harmful BS. It's no mystery how it was intended.

This is my first (and hopefully last) comment on the GD vs GC issue. This stereotyping is bs and I'm sick of it.

"..generally true" Come on already

Obviously I cared.

I must not have been home when you stopped at my door while polling EVERY SINGLE WRX OWNER. Otherwise my innuendo was missed that "generally" was not a representative sample.

My apologies for the digression, FWIW now, I quite like Colin and voted as such. Truth be known I pay special attention and cheer for my few favorite drivers no matter the team while also cheering for Subaru and Mitsu regardless of driver. In this day and age of contracts I don't see another way of keeping your sanity and staying happy with anyone winning. Now that I think of it, cheering on the sport and events themselves makes me happiest.

I took the last option as a genuine question. People who have just discovered rally due to their involvement with the WRX most likely havent a clue about its history yet.

People are too sensitive round here. Everyone has diferent knowledge levels and history with the brand of Subaru and the sport of Rally.

Lets all just have fun together and have discusions without that disintigrating into a old school/new school pissing contest. Thats something you never see in motorsport forum and i would hate to see it start here, if it does i wont waste my time trying to educate you lot any more. :p;):D:lol:

Agreed and agreed. :)
direwlf 03-11-2002 08:39 PM

Personally, I would like colin a lot more if he could periodically remember to keep the car rubber side up :) The guy is one of the best drivers when he's on, but he is lacking some of the consistency of the other drivers and it seems like he still sometimes thinks that the gas pedal is an on/off switch.

I think that's his problem, isn't it? :D Maybe he and Petter should take a class in "road management."
brainrally 03-11-2002 11:43 PM

Why so sensitive? Man, I didn't know Colin McRae drove for Subaru when I first bought my GC8 Impreza. It was because I bought the car that I learned more about WRC and rally in general. In fact, it wasn't until I got my Impreza that I became aware of the Secret Car Club of America (SCCA) and Solo II.

I would definitely agree that Burns whines alot more then Colin. I just remember reading an interview in Rally XS magazine where Colin and Richard interviewed each other, and maybe Colin was trying to be intimidating, but he came off arrogant to me. I don't get this impression when I see interviews of him on TV, so maybe he is just arrogant towards Burns to increase the level of competition.

In your pool.. you forgot to tell:

- I'll continue to pulled McRae when he kick his Ford in a rallye...

;)

No... I think Collin is a great driver. He drives for Subaru in the past.. he's a champion. I think we have many good pilots in the WRC those last years and its really hard to tell who will win.

I prefer that kind of sport.. comparing this to the F1.. where you know that many teams will still in the bottom of the championship.

Dr. WOT 03-12-2002 07:57 AM

I will always pull for McRae. He reminds me of Michael Schumacher in that when he really starts pushing hard, there is the controlled fury in his driving that is simply mesmerizing to watch. Obviously you need an unbelieveable amout of talent to be a top rally driver, and even among lofty peers, CM still manages to distinguish himself. So I root for McRae and Subaru.
FlooredSubaru 03-12-2002 09:49 AM

I wish i had a wrx so i could be sad!!!

The only reason i knew he drove for subie is becouse my dad is a retired top ten pro rally driver and i have been around rally cars sense my secound breath of air.

I really don't care who the drivers drive for i just wish that McRae whould stop bouncing off trees. it makes me hurt when you see the roll cage hit his leg.
