Oregon Trail part 1

dch 04-15-2004 08:52 PM

Oregon Trail
So where's the Oregon Trail thread? It's coming up on 1-week out. Practice stage is Thursday. SuperSpecial Friday night includes a quarter mile on the drag strip at Portland International Speedway! I'm kinda curious as to what my new motor will do...

What about your new Fuel Cell:lol: good luck Doug.
dch 04-16-2004 05:51 PM

It's in, and the fuel pump arrived today. Parker was fabricating a filler neck/cap to bolt on to it (don't worry Jeff we won't massacre your cell :D), and the fittings arrived yesterday from Goodridge. The motor went in yesterday, still have to plumb the new WRC steering rack (1.5 turns lock to lock, I tells ya!), aside from that we're down to trim pieces and camera mounts and the like.

Then there's the other car. The motor goes in tonight supposedly, the dogbox is being assembled tonight or tomorrow with the uprated front diff, anti-lag switches are sorted but need installation, some wiring mods with the new engine, tow hooks...

I've still got to prep the truck, unmount and mount all the dang tires for both cars, do laundry, pack, and leave Sunday morning. Nothing like being way ahead of schedule, eh?

Cheers,
-Doug

Here it is

I am so looking forward to driving your car:p :disco:

Just keep on looking, photo-boy... :D

All you need is a suitcase full of $20's and I'll hand you the keys. Make sure you bring your silly-suit and helmet or they won't even let you play ballast on the practice stage. I bet you'd look swell in Scott's spare suit!

Don't worry Doug as your car gest more bits mine seems to be losing them....... Funny how that works out. Fuel cell and shafts should be in transit.

Yo WRXMaster, which practice time slot are you in on Thursday? There will probably be someone around to stuff in the car with ya. If you haven't reserved your time yet, send e-mail to [emailprotected] so you don't lose out as there's a limit of 3 cars per 2-hour slot...

Soon as I get the truck loaded I'm outa here... See y'all out there!

P.S. -

Jeff we've got the N cell in and the car running (thanks aplenty!)

Jamie one of these days we'll figure out how to get to an event without having to pull a string of all-nighters :)
dch 04-18-2004 05:41 PM

Crap, I'm still here. I forgot how much stuff I've got to bring with me. I think we may have accidentally packed up the little neighbor kid too. Oh well, he's small, he doesn't need much air.

Well CPD 2 drove over and up onto the trailer, and CPD 1 loaded into the enclosed trailer just fine. So far, so good. We decided against launching head first into the squall line of tornadoes and golf ball size hail so now we're really late.

Parker was going to bring his grill, I'm not sure if he remembered it.

Departing any time now, I think. It looks like the thunderstorms are clearing up to the West of us. They looked pretty cool on the radar with all that red area. No fun to drive through, though.

Cheers,

-Doug

I won't be there, #1 daughter is entering her first pinewood derby.

I may try and drop down either Sat or Sun to spectate.

montana_slim 04-19-2004 09:49 PM

Hey doug, where's Scott been lately? I've sent a couple emails to him about press passes, haven't heard back. I "think" I've got press passes secured with Barrett Dash (#294 turbo legacy). I'm packing a Canon 10D digital SLR (6.3 megapixel) this year, so, I'm expecting some awesome pics. I'll look you guys up when I pull into Hillsboro this Thursday evening.
Lauchlin OSullivan, with co-driver Jimmy Brandt, finished third despite problems with a third gear on SS15 that nearly crashed the 2001 Subaru Impreza WRX he was testing over the weekend for fellow driver Doug Havir.
grap on my tired? what happened to Doug? The grammar above makes no sense. Nearly crashed?
montana_slim 04-26-2004 02:43 PM

Doug and Scott were driving the '04 STi and Lauchlin was driving their older '01 USX. He was quite quick. I took several pics of both doug and lauchlin, my favorite is stage 9 with Lauchlin's brakes glowing red hot. :)

OHH.. dammit I completely read that wrong. I thought it was a grammar nightmare. Just a Reading Comprehension problem instead.

So ... anyway. That still doesn't answer my question. What happened to Doug? Doesn't look like he lasted too long. Went out after SS3?

on day one... from what i saw he cracked a rt. rear rotor...
and i mean cracked into pieces
so, they dnf'd...

came back on day 2 to run the clubrally... and...
he rolly rolled....

they were out of the car smiling and mugging as i went by

car looks like it needs a lot of work

but i'm glad my boyz are okay!
outback2.5HO 04-26-2004 05:24 PM

What about the Subaru non finishers?...;)

I know I'm not the only one that DNF'd out of us.. We just didn't break it as hard or fast as some others (DCH)..

If there is such a thing as bad rally karma, we were in the vortex of it this past weekend...:( I've never seen such a string of random mechanical issues on any Subie in over 10 years of working on them.

At any rate, the stages (2 + bogey stage) that we ran were fun, and we turned decent times. We made it to service, and back to the stage, then the car started acting up, and eventually quit right after our buddy (fellow Legacy brother #212) Gabe sprayed some water on us.. How random is that? Then we got tugged out by 2 GL-10 wagons in tandem, it was great . The Subie love is still alive and well!

We had fun anyway, great team bonding weekend, great spectating and it reminded us of how great the "rally family" is that we are a part of.. Also, how smooth things went with our old car. :D

Big congrats to Pat Richard on the overall win in the grp N, you were my pick from the beginning. Also, at the spectator area on stage 9, you ruled it in the style points department, very smooth, can't wait to see those pics..:D
