Person who posts the best-closest photos of lighted safari mirror gets $100

Hi

I need the clearest and closest photos available of the Subaru WRC safari mirrors with the lights. My copies are nearly complete from guesswork and crappy photos, but I have no problem starting over, if their's looks better.

On October 17th at noon, I will post the winner's name (so you know this is legit') and mail a check out for $100.

The only photo I can find is the 2002 WRC covered in a cloud of dust, so forget that one, unless you can clean it up. If you have seen it in person and can draw it clearly, that is eligable also.

I am really sorry, but I need to change one rule. I am looking for the "tube" shaped style. No one can see out of the super small sport-type.

Good luck

Roy

This smells like a business opportunity. Where is Morette on this? They love sticking round lights all over the place. All you'd need are a couple of small Hella lights and the housing, right?
Gravel-Fun 10-19-2002 01:34 PM

This may sound like a biz opportunity. Unless someone is willing to make these with high-tech equipment, you won't see many. They are a P.I.T.A. to make.

Building the first one from the photos took me quite a while, and I was a body mechanic, so I was not coming in with little experience. I know the first always takes the longest and looks the worst. (kinda like losing your virginity):)

I am still not finished one yet. Plastic welding is VERY different than mig, tig, arc, or torch welding. It is really weird, and it is slowing me down. If they were steel, I would be done both sides already.

I am making the first sets ABS, non-power adjustment, but with a new type of blind spot mirror. At less than a 4" round glass, a blind spot mirror seemed the best choice. Hella's are the lamp choice I made. Already have those.

It was never my intent to sell these. I just wanted something different. As I get patterns and jigs made, I may cut some sets loose. I need to recover from my illness first, though. I get tired very quickly. I won't sell any unless I can build a set that are perfect, and know I can duplicate them that way.

Everyone seems to be going with the street racer look anyway, so I never planned on anyone else wanting a set. They might look okay on that type of ride also.....not sure.

Have made the Prodrive brushgaurd. (GC8)

Next:

New design hood scoop
Prodrive snorkel (thru the hood to the roof?) another contest?
light pod?

ANY OTHER REQUESTS?

I fired myself Thursday, so I can work on getting better. If I recover, I will gladly try to make items for you (and me). You can have the first nice prototype and the rights, no charge. I have enough things to think about to last a lifetime.

I am only saving one product for a patent for myself. When it is complete, I will sell the patent or hire a company to make it and sell, hopefully to help make sure my wife and 3 year old are taken care of if I buy the farm early.

If you are healthy, you may want to take a moment to be greatful. And for goodness sake use every peice of safety equipment in your job or hobbies. If you are not healthy, then stay home to watch world rally:)

Sorry for the long post.

How about making replica's (in plastic, FG, or CF) of the non-lighted mirrors?

I am sure that MANY people would pay good money for those! (including me)

Just a thought....
jackansi 10-19-2002 11:07 PM

If there is ever a set of lighted mirrors for an '02 WRX available, I'd like a shot at them.. I really want a set.
Gravel-Fun 10-20-2002 08:00 AM

Aspera,

My reply was inappropriate to your question. I apologize. Yes, you could possibly find an aftermarket mirror that may be close to fitting and grind, cut, heat and bend etc.

And then drill the front and maybe squeeze a 1" to 2" lamp into the front. Cannot bond.....need to get to the bulb.

I just wanted the round safari mirrors (tubular housings).

You don't need to apologize. I didn't take your reply the wrong way. I know it's not easy for one person to make a replica of a rally part, but it would be easy for a company like Morette or Orciari to come up with lighted mirrors. I also think that a person might be able to make lighted mirrors. The devil is in the details, however. I could make lighted mirrors, but it would take me all year and they would look like poop.:)

Real Prodrive C/F safari mirrors....$2000 used
Ganador....$?
STI carbon mirrors....$?
C/F mirrors used on SCCA rally cars...$?
STI power folding mirrors....$?
MY01-02 stock mirrors....$?
MY03+ two-tone anti raindrop mirrors....$?

The 90mm units are pretty big. The high beam is much shorter. Does Hella make smaller lights?

Maybe an MR16 bulb would be the way to go. They don't take up much space.
