PR: Irish Mike's Racing to run in 2006 SCCA World Challenge Touring Series events

Irish Mike's Racing has been working hard since it's last World Challenge race to prepare a car for 2006, the car was finally ready for some testing earlier this year at Sebring.

This is a photo of the car taken at the Sebring testing. It is a 2.0L that has been grandfathered in because the 2.0L was legal last year and the new 2.5l has not yet received permission to run. Until further commitments can be obtained, it is the Irish Mike's Racing's plan to run at least the race at the 12 Hours of Sebring and then the St. Pete Grand Prix event with the help of our current sponsors. Irish Mike's Racing is actively looking to see if we can put together some type of coalition to be able to run the entire season; help from new sponsors, help from local dealers in the area of the events, anything we can do to race the car. Irish Mike's Racing is trying to persuade anyone interested to come on board.
Here is a link to the SCCA website that has the entire season's listing;

Last year's car with a new front end and quite a few other improvements. Hopefully someone from Irish Mike's will chime in soon!

Correct, same chassis, new front end. We had been dealing with a few issues last year that didn't seem to want to go away; however, the car seems to be well sorted now and we look forward to running up front. We should be qualifying a little higher at the grid now, so that should get us out of all the bumping and grinding that happens mid-pack with the sanding starts. Opie, thanks for getting that pic up for Sam.

they had one of the highest trap speeds at the end of the straight at Road Atlanta last year.
Power isnt the problem

For those of you that didn't follow last season, Mike and his team put in a lot of hard work. Here's a few pics I took from last year. Guys, can't wait to see you on '06, good luck!

there will also be at least 1 Ford GT running in GT.
Isn't that Volvo just a rebodied Focus?

same platform as mazda 3 and maybe euro focus. it's a t-5 which is a 5 cyl. turbo w/ lots o torque, 2.4L. they also make an awd version, but i'm sure this one is fwd.
| artkevin | 01-27-2006 04:47 PM |
Hope to see you guys up front in 06. I think Speed Touring and GT is some of the best racing on this side of the pond. Good luck.

Well well. From the press release it's indeed a T5, not the NA version of the motor. And, you know what else has occured? The Legacy GT is now classed in Touring Car, instead of GT.
I think props are due to the pioneers that campaigned the S60R. Their difficulties running a sedan in GT seems to have swayed the SCCA to reclass cars where... they belonged in the first place.

the CTS-V is a sedan ;)
The RS/6 got the shaft too. If I remember right, it had something to do with tires. Then Audi pulled funding.

Indeed it is. The one running in WCGT - which bares little resemblance to the production version.

Sarcasm?
It both cases, however, both were V8 - one with two turbos - which makes it a little easier to hang with the big dogs than a T5 or T4.

what motor did the S60R have? And I am being serious about the RS-6. The last year they ran, the cars got limited to a certain tire width, which they had trouble finishing races with. At least thats what I remember.
| pio!pio! | 01-27-2006 07:17 PM |
There should be a Nissan Skyline GT-R Z-Tune in WCGT as well...

The same T5 that's in the S40. It's just detuned in the S40 w/smaller turbo in the S40. It was hella mod'd of course - Cosworth built their engines and they were making the power they needed.

I sure wish Speed WC was coming to Heartland Park this year since the Runoffs will be there this year and the nice new pavement and facilities. Well maybe next year.

What's up with the Cabo Wabo sponsorship on the 'Stang and the Can't drive 55 # on the GT? Is Sammy Hagar a racing buff?
| DILLIGAF Racing | 02-19-2006 12:29 AM |
I think it had something to do with SEMA this year.

The cars were on display at SEMA. No clue if they're actually going to run them.

They say they'll be at Sebring.

I hope so I always wanted to see that GTR out there with U.S. muscle lets see what happens. My guess is it's going to break or get punted off.

THe 06 front ends are looking better and better in racing trim, I really like it. Is all this talk about Speed world challenge, or some other series? ( the ford gt, mustang, skyline)

yep. World Challenge.
