prodrive or rallyarmor.... part 1

RexisMe 07-30-2006 11:55 PM

prodrive or rallyarmor....
i am having a tough time deciding on what mudflaps to buy for my 05 wrb wrx.... either the blue prodrives or the rallyarmor w/ the rallyarmor logo in blue.... price is not a factor, just overall looks/quality. I have never owned a pair of neither, so i figure if the prodrive ones last 2x's as long as the rallyarmors well then i got my moneys worth..what do you guys think?
PARANOID56 07-31-2006 12:00 AM

oh, go for prodrive. super strong and great looking :D

I actually say RallyArmor in black. The blue Prodrive ones might be nice if you're going for a Prodrive car theme or whatever, but to me they look a little TOO wanna-be-rally-star.

aka Subaru rice. :D

=S2=
Subie Gal 07-31-2006 09:45 AM

Prodrive and Rice?

i dont think so.....

fireball_jones 07-31-2006 10:07 AM

If price is not a factor, get the Prodrives. They will get chewed to pieces, all mudflaps do. Especially if the car is lowered.

I have rallyarmors FWIW, they keep crap off the car, but they don't flex at all. Good if you're throwing rocks behind you, bad if you're hitting potholes.
cpages2 07-31-2006 11:47 AM

Black Prodrives FTW!!!!

I have had mine for about a month and I love them!!! Top Quality and they look really really good.

Mine are with red logo. Looks really nice, work awesome.
supermarkus 07-31-2006 03:04 PM

Having owned 2 different types of Prodrive flaps (molded and rally style), I can honestly say that you won't be disappointed by the looks of them, you will be disappointed that you spent so much on them. I don't regret getting them for a minute because I had the disposable income at the time and they protect so well. But I can see how hard it is to justify paying a premium for something you're going to scrape against speedbumps all the time. Rally Armor seem to be well thought out and fit well from what I've seen. They seem to be better bang for your buck.
jay25RS 07-31-2006 03:12 PM

Fastline anyone? I'm looking for those personally myself for the fall/winter coming up and I'd also be int0erested in Black prodrives for my 2006 sedan but I've heard that the prodrives do not fit the new body style

Rallyarmor vote here.

I have the Blue logo ones. Holding up really well. You wouldn't think by looking at them, they are stiff as a board. You'll be afraid that they will break in half if you drag them on something, but they can take a beating. Easy install (I imagine prodrives are just as easy). Cost was big for me. They both are going to get chewed up, so I couldn't see spending the money for prodrives.

Lots of pictures on here to compare the looks prodrives and rallyarmor.

Did I say I had a prodrive exhaust? Hmmmm I would like to have a Oval tip but too bad its a 2.5" piping would rather have a 3 incher all the way back.

I will tell you that the prodrives are great!!They have saved my paint and they are made of some slick material that looks new when you wipe it off..Lets call it super teflon CF(tm) or something like that. I just need a big mudflap for the front of my car..
I don't regret spending the cash on them..but I'm a prodrive freak anyway..

where can one get a set of thoose?
chaddeus 08-01-2006 02:25 PM

Although the RallyArmor is cheaper and looks tougher, I would recommend the Prodrive. I had a set of RallyArmor on my car and one of the permenant crews actually broke the plastic clip and there is no way to remove it unless i remove the entire front fender (i think).

So I think the Prodrive one will allow you to flex and yet protect your car from damage.

I know that it's cool and all to have some name brand mudflaps, but what is the difference between these and the generic ones you see in the store? I've had mudflaps on all of my other cars, and they've been the generic ones that you get at any PepBoys for like $20. They look exactly like the ones posted here, or maybe a little smaller. I'm not trying to start a flame war. But seriously, what's the justification for the added cost? Can someone tell me? I can't imagine the Prodrive ones lasting that much longer than the $20 rubber ones you can get anywhere.

Or, if you need something larger, why not just make them yourself for like $10 in materials? A pair of sharp shears and I would think you would be golden.

Please explain... I've never seen the RallyArmor and Prodrives in person.
Pat L.I. 08-01-2006 04:35 PM

im a mild prodrive junkie (springs, axleback, matts, sparco prodrive bucket seat) but i could not bring myself to shell out the money for prodrive mudflaps. way to expensive.
rally armors look great and have great service.

prodrive flaps are softer and will flap backwards with wind, rallyarmors are super solid. as has been mentioned. another deciding factor for me was that i didnt want Flappy! flaps!

Time is money! :)

Prodrive is for show and Rally wannabe's ;) (my opinion :))

When you buy the store brand, you have to the get some hardware. You have to drill holes. Which really is not hard, but does take time.

Why not go with something that has already been designed to work with your car? Has the proper hardware? Takes less time to install and looks good. (The store flaps do not look or last like the Rally Armor or the Prodrive units, that is why they are $20).

It is all about choice! :)

I beg the differ.

My first set of Mud Flaps were Napa $9.99 specials
and I pretty much ran them INTO THE GROUND....

took me $5 in hardware and 20 mins to install
and they hit many a rallycross many a dirt trail before i went BLING :)
(yellow urethane imported from the UK "cut to fit" true rally flaps....)

to each their own! :)

do what suits you and your budget....

Correct, this is because they are either cheap rubber, or "fiberglassed reinforced" to make up for the lack of worthy material. After a season they look like crap on a vehicle because they get an extreme curve/sail on them. In the end, your vehicle will look like it is wearing a dress.

+1 for Rally Armor :p

Instead of the cheap rubber flaps from pep-boys you can buy urethane from mcmaster-carr or something and cut it yourself to save some money. Also rallylights.com sells sheets and pre-cut flaps.

I should do that one of these days. One of my Subaru flaps got ripped off and I noticed another one isn't going to be there for much longer.

Having one of the first sets they run like champs. When I first lowered my car they scraped everywhere. I personally did not want my mudflaps to 'flap'. No way in hell these things are getting ripped. :)

So in your opinion, the Prodrives could not be used on a real rally car? Does this mean you think the Rally Armors would fair better on a rally car? I'm confused. I find them to be very rugged and they protect the car very well. You seem to think they are for fashion rather than function.
InfamousDX 08-11-2006 10:26 AM

this is funny... how many of you with mud flaps actually rally the car? in this thread, my guess is like... 2.
fireball_jones 08-11-2006 10:55 AM

What do mudflaps have to do with rallying?

I personally drive on gravel almost every day.

Mud flaps only if you rally?.... Seriously that was a good one, got any more, I could use a couple more laughs for the day. ;) Remember folks, those rally sytle mud flaps will only protect your car IF you rally, normal road debris will magically pass through them and still hit your car....
Magnum626 08-11-2006 12:17 PM

Have you seen the streets in NYC and drive though bad neighborhoods in queens? Now that's a rally in itself.... lol

I just don't like dirt on the sides of the car after washing. Plus I think it's only in NYC where they patch up the pavement with the black tar.

One time I drove over one and it wasn't even steamrolled?!?! I sunk in a recently filled pothole and black gravel bits stuck all over the mudflap, tires, wheel wells, exhaust, rear diff protector. I was soooo pissed! At least I didn't have anythng on the rear bumper and lower panels.

Normal road debris doesn't splatter up the side of the car with my mudflaps... :)

No, not at all. What I am saying, for the money spent, the Rally Armor product offers good bang for the buck.

Prodrive is a great company with a great product line. However, not everyone can afford the Prodrive flaps or wants to spend that kind of money for mud flaps.

Not to mention that most of us here are not Rally Drivers nor do we own a rally only car.

In the real world, the Rally Armor does well because it is firm. If not for their firmness, I would have some scratches all along the side of my car from the different road debris that is unavoidable here in NY.

Is this not one of the reasons why we use mud flaps on the street? To protect our ride from debris flying up and scratching our paint?

BTW, the remark was sarcasim, hence the ;) and the :). No need to be confused. ;)

har har... uhm no. Way to miss my point  .

People are arguing about hard core durability when these flaps will RARELY touch the ground, let alone be subjected to rally style conditions.

thanks for the attempt though.

Rallyarmor works for me. I scrape them and they flex just enough to take the hit and not wear off. They mount VERY solidly (if done with care).
Pallendo 10-21-2006 01:27 AM

For some reason Jamie has a serious bias against the Rallyarmor. No clue as to why.

From what I have seen, Prodrive and Rallyarmor flaps look pretty much identical. My Rallyarmor flaps look like they stick down further than the prodrive flaps that I have seen (in person). They have touched down one time on the freeway (every seatbelt filled, and not by small people. an IEEE standard a$$ load of luggage in the back) and every day when I back into my garage (Rolled curbs, not curb cuts). No damage other than small surface scuffing. Really, you cannot go wrong with either.
