Question about 2005 STi rear fender flares

How are the flares/mouldings attached to the rear fender? Clips? Double sided adhesive?
| Subie Gal | 01-23-2006 11:04 PM |
they have clips... which snap into the body of the car
thus, if you wanted to add them, you'd have to drill
or use some really nice double sided tape (3M automotive)

hmm..wonder how that would look.
| FWD WRX | 01-23-2006 11:34 PM |
i didn't know you could add on flares, can someone post a picture up?
| WR^2X | 01-23-2006 11:40 PM |
Pics of my car after some guy decided he wanted to occupy the same lane as me, and tore off half of my flare (thumbnails link to fullsize pics):

You can see the mounting holes for the tabs in the flare.

I was thinking of using 3m double sided tape. Where do they sell 3M automotive double sided adhesive? I know they have 3M heavy duty mounting tape at home depot. I used that for my STi bumper splitters.

looks like the STi rear bumper is different as well? I see an extra line for the flare...

BUMP for the part #
| FWD WRX | 01-24-2006 03:13 PM |
aren't 05 STI bumpers a little different since they have specific JDM STI rear aprons addons
| white-shadow | 01-24-2006 08:10 PM |
is this a possibility for the wagon :D ...
| mikeybo | 01-24-2006 08:14 PM |
Id say that would be a no. The taillights are also different from sedan to wagon.
| tasq | 01-24-2006 08:17 PM |
First off...the 05 sti bumper is WIDER by 1/2" and IS not the same as the WRX. Second, Flares would look like crap, because they would stop abruptly at the bumper. The 05 STi bumper has an extra line for the flare. :p
| byroll01 | 01-24-2006 09:25 PM |
Well, I don't think it looks like crap...
but some people might not have the same opinion.
The main reason for doing this was because I needed my fenders rolled for tire clearance. I figured since they would have to be painted anyway it would be better to attach these and paint under them than to have my guy paint my whole rear 1/4 or do a blend that didn't look 100%.
My body guy drilled holes for the clips and glued it on but I still think it doesn't fit as well as an '05. I've considered going with a '05 bumper if I could find a used one or the ings+1 would be a perfect fit.
But for now it works for me. And my tires don't rub anymore.

byroll01 can you post more pics of your fender flares
| MannyMohawk#5 | 01-25-2006 02:47 AM |
are there holes all around it, or just the two at the bottom?
| byroll01 | 01-25-2006 10:42 AM |
A '05 has holes all around it. And there is a tab at the end that would hook under the '05 rear bumper, but we had to cut that off.
I'll take some more pics for you.

The 05 Bumper also has the lower portion of the rear spat area that Sticks out with no cut in... the 04 has a contoured sutin that matches the side skirts and comes in.. not out. then there is the top wheel well portion that has the contoured fedner flare to match the well flare.

I wanted to get the fender flares for my 05 wrx, but I would need an sti bumper cover. Is there anything else that I would need for this not to look like poop?
| byroll01 | 04-26-2006 02:22 PM |
you don't have to use a 2005 sti bumper. If you want it to look perfect you can, but they will go on your car without it.Then you could get them bumper after you decide if you like it or not.
my car is an '04 without the '05 bumper and I don't think it looks like poop! :)

Talking about the radiator hoses? I said I wasnt trying to be a dick...
But see? It just doesn't look finished without the rear bumper. I'm not trolling your threads for any reason, so don't worry about that.

I guess someone should tell Do-luck how bad their kit looks for the 02-03. Some people may not have a problem with the way it looks.

If you go to Subarugenuineparts.com and do a part number search, that returns
Quarter panel - Exterior trim - Wheel opng mldg - W/wrx sti
W/wrx sti Left - Sedan 2005 - 2006
So it's the left flare, but you still need the P/N for the right flare.
