Rally racing on TV?

I've been very interested in reading about rallying lately. Lots of pictures and videos. I even watched the rally across newfoundland on OnDemand and thought it was SWEET. But I can never find rally on TV. I've tried several websites none of which seem to help. I have the speed channel but all I ever see are really dumb shows and rarely racing. Should I resort to just watching it on the computer?

If you find a TV channel that shows it within a reasonable timedelay, let me know..... :( I miss watching rally racing :( :(

Speed took it out of their lineup. And probably added MORE nascar in its place  :furious:

I smell a speed tv beating coming on.
Subie Sport is the only update I get. And SWRT.com.......:(

I know a guy with a girlfriend from Poland and the last meet I saw him at he had video she brought back of WRC coverage. It was 2 hours per day.
i.e. 3 day rally = 6 hours of tv coverage

Try this website.

It's just an overall wrap up but there is some great footage. You need DVIX codec to watch it.

Thats what I thought, but I wasn't sure if them changing their name to Versus effected their coverage I hope not.

There will not be any more coverage of the Rally America 2006 season on television, beyond what has been shown for X Games and the pre-X Games show on ESPN.
I expect that the 2007 Rally America season and X Games will be covered on ESPN, ESPN2, or the Ocho. :)

I think it would be kinda neat if they offered them on iTunes, I usually end up getting other TV shows there anyway, so why not some racing too?

There was an article in a recent Autoweek that said WRC is likely to be back on TV in USA next year. Nothing finalized but read as if it wouldn't be Speed. Can't imagine Autoweek would publish that if it wasn't more than chatter.

Life would be happy if that were too materialize. Now we can only hope NASCAR doesn't whip up another mundane roundy-round event like the 'NASCAR SUV Challenge' and snatch the WRC time slot on speed....

As long as NASCAR remains a majority owner of Speed, there's little danger of ever seeing WRC on that channel. Them roundy-round boys don't cotton to competition what makes em look bad......especially none o them frikken Frenchies and Euro foo-foo stuff.

VS (OLN) would be the most likely channel, I'd imagine. They already show some rally raid stuff every year...

Download speeds are low unless you pay them $6 ever few months, then they are 80 to 110 kbs. Usually pretty good at getting videos up right after a rally. I like stealing media just as much as the next guy, but these people are good enough that I belive they are worth paying.

Then how do you explain the ALMS, WC, Le Mans, MotoGP, etc that they do show? I think it was just bad "ratings" that got it dropped. We all have our theories, but don't need another Speed bashing thread.
ESPN does have rally on it's radar now too, after the X games. I don't really care what channel it's on as long as it's one I get. :)

it'd be nice to have some rally on the fuel channel too, surfing and skating can get a bit tedious.

1. I thought the WRC program was extremely well produced, with interesting sidebars by Grist, great photography and editing, and fantastic computer-generated feature spots.
2. I'm guessing the SPEED Channel is in business for the money... if the profit margin were there, the show would be.
3. Replacing a knowledgeable male American SPEED Channel insider, Bob Varsha, with an unknowledgeable female Brit in the commentator job... that wasn't the smartest marketing move for acceptance in the States.
4. NASCAR is tons more interesting than the hours and hours of Barrett-Jackson Auction coverage that came on when the WRC was dropped!
5. We shouldn't forget that the appearance of a show on TV is the result of a negotiated deal... which side was responsible for the deal not being done?
6. I'm still in withdrawal from getting to watch the WRC on SPEED.
It's awesome that the X Games have picked up rallying as a major event!
im pretty sure it was speed that dropped the WRC, and not the WRC not wanting to be on speed. but IIRC, they wanted more for the rights, so I think that played a part in speed dropping it. No increase in viewers (meaning no increase in income) coupled with rising cost = no more WRC.

I would love to see more Rally racing resurface next year. I personally hate Nascar racing with a passion, but it is hugely popular with most folks in the US and as others have already stated its all about ratings and advertising dollars at the end of the day.
Thanks to those that posted the links for the rally content! :)

Troof! There was rumors of making it a winter sport as well, which would be HUGE for just about everybody involved. Subaru and Mitsubishi could get their respective cars in the public eye twice as often, X-Games would have a sport that is done almost identical from one season to the other, and the fans really seemed to enjoy the Rally this last year.
